Chapter 108 He has a daughter
GOLD PACK
Nadia sighed as she stuffed her clothes into a traveling bag. She hated packing. She would have called unto one of the maids to help with it but it would be too much of a hassle for her to start instructing whoever she calls on what and what not to pack. She huffed.
Nadia sat back down in exhaustion, feeling the need to leave the pack house. She had scheduled a lunch meeting outside the pack to meet up with her daughter and grandchildren. It’s the only thing she gets to do aside taking care of her brother who is now dead. It tired Nadia out that despite Marcel’s death, she is still saddled with running errands on his behalf.
Picking up her car keys, giving her scattered bag one last look and she headed out of the room. Nadia hoped that she would return with a different energy that would prompt her to do the needful. She almost bumped into Xavier on her way out.
“Aunt.” Xavier mumbled as he held her by the arm. “Are you okay? Where are you headed?”
Nadia chuckled. “Oh please ignore my scatter brain. I have a date with Anastasia and the children. I can’t wait to see them before I get to leave.”
“Alright.” Xavier smiled back at her while he watched her receding back.
Xavier thought on sending someone to keep an eye on her but he thought otherwise knowing it would be wrong on his part. She has never given him any reason to doubt her so there is no way he was going to let such thought creep into his thought now. Shaking the thoughts off, Xavier made his way up the stairs.
Nadia only escaped not getting fined for breaking traffic rules by the law. Knowing how much Anastasia fusses on time management, she wouldn’t be pleased if Nadia turned up late. Their usual meeting place was a long two hours ride from Gold pack. Even though it’s much hassle for Nadia, she never complains and drives in delight knowing the joy of seeing her daughter and grandchildren will compliment the whole stress.
Nadia stretched her neck from the booth next to the window at the sight of her mother’s car. She felt guilty when her eyes caught sight of the bags underneath her mother’s eyes. She should have been there to console her when her brother died. Alpha Marcel had been the best uncle Anastasia could ever ask for. She felt heavy at heart for his death.
“Grandma!” The twins ran towards Nadia at the sight of her.
Beaming with delight, Nadia scooped both boys up into her strong arms and nuzzled their hairs. Anastasia watched happily as they gripped her hand on both side after Nadia dropped them to the ground.
“I hope they didn’t cause a pain in your back.” Anastasia said when they reached her.
Nadia laughed. “Not at all. I have developed strong muscles all because of them. Even though I must admit they are becoming quite big to scoop off the floor.” She huffed in emphasis.
Anastasia smiled. “Sorry about that.” She sat both boys in the middle to keep them from moving around. When the waitress brought their order, Anastasia opened their tablet to play one of their favorite shows cause that would keep them from disturbing the adults conversation.
“How have you been mom? I am so sorry for not being with you during uncle Marcel’s burial.” Anastasia apologized sincerely.
Nadia waved her off lightly. “There is nothing to be sorry about. It would have drained you too much especially with the twins.”
“Lucas wouldn’t have minded. He was a bit angry that I couldn’t be there.”
“Yeah. He is so thoughtful. He kept calling and texting to ensure I was okay.” Nadia smiled. She couldn’t be more grateful for such an understanding son-in-law. Despite not being a werewolf, he was always respectful of their traditions.
“What’s on your mind?” Anastasia inquired.
“I would be traveling out of the pack for a long while. I will be out for about three months.” Nadia replied, sipping on the iced tea Anastasia had ordered on her behalf.
“Why?”
“You do know your uncle didn’t exactly have an heir.”
Anastasia let out a snort. “Oh have you realized now that your beloved Xavier is of no good?”
“Anastasia!” Nadia called out in exhaustion. She would never understand the hate Anastasia feels towards Xavier. Everybody cherishes him except her. “Remember you were the one who talked trash about him.”
“That is because he is trash mom. But no one is seeing what I saw in him.” She argued, feeling pained that no one wants to listen to her or believe the actual truth about Xavier. Anastasia could sense his fake ass from afar.
“Enough, please. I hope one day you would realize how awful you have acted saying hateful things at the poor boy.”
“He is no poor boy and I also hope one day you would admit I was right.” Anastasia insisted.
Exhaustion trailed Nadia’s forehead, “How about we just talk of something entirely different from all this.”
“So, tell me. Where are you headed?” Anastasia asked absentmindedly, dusting off a crumb on one of the twins chest.
“To find Marcel’s daughter.”
“What?!” Anastasia blurted with her mouth agape. “Let this not be a joke. Uncle Marcel had a daughter? Why didn’t he find her before his death?”
Nadia shrugged. “I was just as surprised as you are. And remember your uncle is as stubborn as a mule and listens to nobody else but himself. He knew about her right from birth but choose to not find her until he was dying.”
“How are you expected to find a single person in this entire world?”
“He gave me what I feel are substantial clues. They should be enough to help.”
“Well, I am glad someone is about to give Xavier a run for his money.”
Nadia gave her a disapproving look, “Don’t start. Actually her arrival would only strengthen Xavier’s position as the Alpha. I plan to get the both of them married.”
“What if she is married?”
“She can’t be just yet, I am hoping.”
“Have you stopped to think for a moment that she might not like the idea of an arranged marriage and hate Xavier’s guts.”
“Not everyone would be like you, Anastasia. Stop sounding so bitter.”
Anastasia paused from her drink to snicker. “You will regret this mom. Mark my words. You are too trusting of him.” She glanced down at her wristwatch and cursed lightly. “I can’t believe we have spent more than a hour. You should be on your way now mom. You know how much I hate to know you are driving late in the night.”
Nadia laughed in amusement. “Sometimes you do forget I am a werewolf, so are you which implies we don’t have a problem moving around at night.”
“Yeah. Right. Whatever you say. I still need you to be on your way now.”
Nadia complied grudgingly as she bade her family goodbye. Getting into her car, she drove down watching her family from the side mirror till they disappeared. Nadia took in a deep breath. She hoped when she does return it would be with some good news
