Chapter 105 Green eyes and a latent wolf
GOLD PACK
Nadia looked on in despair as her brother groaned in severe pain. She would have never thought his sickness would escalate to such extent. Marcel had always been a strong and persistent man but he submitted himself totally to the Moon Fever that has consumed him. It got him more as a result of the situation of things surrounding him. Ever since he got stuck to the sickbed, it had been hard for them to keep the pack moving while the Alpha lays lifeless.
Xavier, Alpha Marcel’s adopted son walked in. “Hello, aunt.” Xavier greeted Nadia as he went to her and kissed her cheek.
Nadia wrapped her arms around his waist. “Hey Xavier, how are you doing?”
Xavier rubbed at her back gently. “I am just great, aunt. How is dad doing?”
Nadia let out a scoff and rolled er eyes. “What do you think? He keeps groaning all day and it is becoming a bother.”
Staring at the almost shrinking body of his father, Xavier took a deep breath and he released himself gently from his aunt’s hold. “I need to handle some pack duties real quick, aunt. I should be back before dinner.”
Nadia smiled lightly. “Alright son.” She shook her head in understanding. “Do take care.”
Marcel coughed out as Xavier left the room. Trying to raise himself from the bed, he motioned towards Nadia to come to him and Nadia pointed at her chest.
“Are you calling me?” She inquired.
Despite being weak, Marcel didn’t resist the chance at showing his impatience. He let out a funny form of snort and rolled his already sunken eyes deeper into their sockets at Nadia’s reaction to his call for her attention.
Nadia huffed, knowing what her brother had done. Nadia stood up from the couch she sat on and walked over to settle on the empty side of the bed. “This had better be for a good reason since you have finally decided to talk after such a long while.”
“Y…yo…your problem is you are too foul…mouthed.” Marcel stuttered weakly.
He and his sister have never been best of friends even though they love each other so much. They hardly want to spend time around each other for even an hour but that didn’t keep them from caring and looking out for one another.
Nadia slapped her forehead in frustration. “Who still has the guts to throw around insults on a sick bed?”
He grinned awkwardly. “Me of course.”
“Why does everything seem like a joke to you?”
“Because it is, especially if it has to do with you.” His voice was becoming clearer and steady.
“I will pretend not to hear that. So, what do you have to say?” Nadia glared at him.
“Help me up…” When Nadia stared at him unflinching, Marcel swallowed his pride. “Please.”
Nadia eventually gave in at his magic words. “You should learn manners. You might need it in the grave.”
“Your dark humor seem to be getting slowly better.” Marcel mocked.
Nadia made a fist move towards him but suspended her hand in the air. “I could really show you what dark means.”
“That’s enough, Nadia. I have something important to tell you.” He mumbled slowly, trying hard to not show his discomfort to his sister knowing how worked up she would become.
“Alright, what is it about?”
“I have been keeping a secret from you for a long while…and I just know this is the right time. All the years of me becoming Alpha and ruling the Gold pack, the thought of my Luna being unable to birth a child had being a huge bother to me. Not because I couldn’t have chosen another route to get an heir but I loved and still love Danielle my late wife to death. She meant everything and I know getting someone else pregnant will kill her. So I just had to accept our predicament.”
Nadia snort lightly. She had never been an actual fan of Danielle majorly because every humiliation and trouble Marcel has had to endure was all because of her. But Marcel loved her and the feeling became contagious in the end.
“What are you driving at Marcel?” She questioned.
Marcel inhaled. “I have a daughter.” He announced.
Nadia stared at her brother with amusement in her eyes. Soon she let out a deep scoffed. “Still got some jokes in that weak body huh?”
Marcel gave her the hardest look he could muster. “Nadia, for the last time please let us get serious.” Marcel’s eyes went wide when a sudden pain strike at his lower back. He groaned inwardly, tried to hold it down just to keep his sister from noticing so she wouldn’t stop him from talking if she finds out.
“You are being serious?”
“Yes.” He nodded.
“For how long?”
“If I am correct the child should be between age eighteen or nineteen now.”
Nadia’s eyes rounded like saucers. “Marcel! How could you hide such news for such a long while?”
He didn’t have a remorseful look on his face. “It was necessary. Elena and I have been together since college but her brothers insistence on marrying someone from their pack and me being asked to get a Luna put us apart. I couldn’t bear the hurt, she neither but we kept seeing each other in secret.”
“And Danielle?”
“I wasn’t in love with her yet. Also, Elena kept sending me pictures of our child and we did talk on phone from time to time. But all of a sudden I didn’t hear from her anymore.”
“Did you bother to find her?”
“I thought she had fallen in love with her husband and decided to stick to him. So…I did the same. I opened up my heart to Danielle and lived my life.”
“How about your child?”
“Jovy. That’s her name. I was so eager to see her but I had to move on cause of Danielle. Jovy has the signature green eyes of the Brown family. She is so beautiful…the exact miniature of her mother.”
“Why didn’t you go after your child at least? You should have gone to find her after Danielle’s death.”
“I thought it might not be necessary, after all the mother also refused to keep in touch with me and I had hurt Danielle too much to keep being an asshole. I had to forget about them.”
“What’s with the sudden remembrance now?”
“Death is knocking, Nadia. And after I am gone, there would be a need for a new leader.”
“I thought Xavier would be the next Alpha.”
“He can still be when you find my daughter…cause all of my properties are in her name.”
“But how do you expect me to find her? I have no idea where she lives or how she looks like and-”
“The name of her mother’s pack is the Midnight Pack. If I remember well her mother’s married name is Finlay.”
Nadia rubbed at her face. “I still can’t seem to wrap my head around this. How am I to be certain she is your daughter? Lots of people have the green eyes.”
“She has the mark, Nadia.” He replied with a sullen face.
Nadia gasped out. “The ancient Alpha mark?”
“She has it on her which implies she is the rightful Alpha to my seat. Giving it directly to Xavier without her blessing would mean doom for Gold pack.”
“But why didn’t you find her? Why do I have to do this now? Xavier has to know.”
“No… no…Nadia. Promise me you won’t tell anyone about this until you find Jovy. I might be dead by then but promise me.”
Nadia looked back at him in shock. She has never seen her brother look so desperate. She heaved a sigh. “Alright brother. I promise.”
“Thank you. And also…she is a latent wolf.” He added.
“Typical! Just like me.”
“Yeah. When her mother panicked about her wolf being weak, I had told her it’s a female trait in our family and let her live normally. It doesn’t change anything. It won’t affect her giving blessing to Xavier.”
“Marcel, I will find your daughter. Please…get well.”
Marcel tried to smile. “You know that is really funny. Stop playing around.”
“Marcel!” She whined.
“Alright.” Marcel turned his back at her. A single tear dropped down his face when another bout of pain ripped through his insides. Taking a painful deep breath, Marcel resigned to fate as he let nature take its course.
