Chapter 104 Alpha Cruelty
MYSTIC SHADOWS FORTRESS
Resting her butt on the couch in her room, Jovy groaned lightly and she pat her belly. It still feels unreal that her baby was no longer there. She had envisioned how beautiful her life would become with the child’s presence. Tears sting the back of her eyes as she tried to sit up. Her heart felt heavy.
Jovy had only returned from the hospital about an hour ago and her supposed husband, Logan, hasn’t deem it fit to check on her. For the entire week she spent at the hospital, Alice and Arlo had been the only one to stay by her side. Especially Arlo, Jovy couldn’t thank him enough for standing by her till the end of her ordeal.
A light knock came from behind the door. “Come in.” Jovy called out gently.
Kyrian walked in with Arlo and a small smile appeared on her lips. “Hey there, Jovy.” Kyrian said.
Jovy bowed her head lightly. “Good day, Beta.”
“I am so sorry for not checking up on you all through the time you spent in the hospital. Pardon me, please.” Kyrian mumbled, feeling ashamed of himself for leaving her just like Logan did.
“Not at all, Beta. Arlo told me of how you had been the one who signed the papers for my surgery. Thank you so much for coming through for me.” She said.
Nodding his head, Kyrian sighed as he tried to hold up a tight smile. “I am glad you are fine now. I am sorry for the loss too. I just need you to stay strong. Don’t feel sad about it and ensure you take care of yourself. Your life matters the most.”
Arlo cleared his throat which distracted Jovy from responding. “Has the Alpha come in to check up on you?”
Kissing his teeth, Kyrian threw a hard glare at an unbothered Arlo and as if on cue the door opened, letting in a blank looking Logan with a hand dipped into his pocket. Jovy stared in awe at how resonating his presence is.
Kyrian hissed silently, making his way out, he bowed ever so slightly and walked out with Arlo following behind. Arlo didn’t bother to look towards Logan. He still wasn’t over his awful attitude yet.
A snicker escaped Logan’s breath as he stared down at Jovy. “Didn’t I tell you this whole pregnancy deal wasn’t worth it?”
A shrieking sound pierced Jovy’s ear and it made her sit up a bit too fast which caused her to kiss her teeth in pain at the effect. “I just left surgery and my wounds haven’t even healed yet.” She said with teary eyes.
Logan dipped his other free hand into the pocket of his trousers. “I have a problem with you seeking for pity at every opportunity that comes your way. Why exactly are you in tears? I have so much on my plate to deal with and there is you again. Can’t you just be on your own without resulting into any drama?”
Jovy’s mouth was wide agape at his words. Despite everything her friends kept saying, she had tried to convince herself that Logan was just as hurt as she was over the loss of their first child. Hearing him speak of a dead innocent child like it’s existence was a fault, had her heart constricting.
“Why would you say such a thing? You got me pregnant.” She muttered amidst shaky breath.
Logan scoffed. “I was clear about my intentions from the very beginning. I don’t want a child with you, neither do I want children. Anything that has to do with some little feet running around my home I don’t want them.” He bellowed.
His irritation was really beginning to grow ever since the day Arlo had come to him for his signature and he had refused. Kyrian had kept a distance away from Logan, they haven’t spoken their usual way for a whole week and it annoys him. Logan can’t help but blame Jovy for it. Her presence in his life had resulted into several arguments with Kyrian more than they have had in the years of their friendship.
“What did I do to you to cause so much hate?” Jovy asked, surprised at the courage she possessed. There had never been a time since she knew Logan that she had a proper talk with him.
“Hate? You only hate someone relevant and you are nothing but a speck of dust to me. I don’t know why I have to keep repeating myself to you.” He sneered.
Logan’s words pelted Jovy like ice and she couldn’t understand why one person would harbor so much hate against another. Despite all she does to keep away from him, he still gets to her every time.
“I just need you to really keep your distance cause that sounds like the right thing to do and stop mopping around.” Logan said before walking out of the room in the fashion he has used to walk in.
Jovy stared at his receding back feeling her heart go along with him. It was becoming more and more evident that Logan would never love her especially with the kind of hatred he harbors. There is nothing positive coming out of their arranged marriage.
Arlo came in to see her trying to wipe off her tears. He had stuck to the door to hear what Logan had to say and as always he delivered brutally. Arlo wished there was something he could do to help Jovy live a better life. If only she would agree to run away, Arlo was willing to do all that it takes in his power to help her stay far away from the clutches of Logan or any other person aiming to hurt her.
Arlo knelt down next to her, he held her hand and kissed it. “I am sorry.”
Jovy sniffed. “It’s not your fault.”
“You know, you don’t have to continue like this. There is a choice for you to leave and never come back.” Arlo said.
“It’s easier said than done, Arlo.”
“But you wouldn’t know until you try.”
Jovy stayed quiet as she stared blankly at the wall. Arlo sighed as he settled on the couch arm. He pulled her to himself and embraced her tightly. Jovy weeped silently in his hold.
“Enough of the tears. You would only cause more harm than good. Please.” He consoled her.
Petting her to keep calm, Arlo swore to himself to ensure Logan regrets treating Jovy like trash. All he needs to do is find a way.
***************
When Logan returned to his study, he met Kyrian pacing the room looking deep in thought. “Easy on my floors, don’t dig a hole into them.” Logan joked dryly as he headed to his chair to sit down.
Kyrian stared at him unmoving. His eyes burning holes into Logan. He still can’t fathom Logan’s ill attitude and why he is acting so cruel.
“You can’t keep staring at me with so much anger within like that. What is it you have to say?” Logan said. He sounded impatient.
“Alpha Logan, tell me what you really hold dear in life because this is the utmost level of cruelty that I have ever encountered in my entire life! What did that innocent girl ever do to you?!” Kyrian bellowed.
“I warned you about this that I was not interested in getting married.”
“Then you could have refused to continue as the Alpha! You have a fucking obligation to these people and why is it so hard for you to adhere to it?! What did Jovy do?! How is any of this her fault?! She has gone through so much already in the span of the few months she has spent in this Fortress! You neither make her happy, still you add to her misery every time!”
“What exactly is the basis of your anger?” Logan growled with his wolf rearing its head.
Kyrian mirrored his expression almost bringing his wolf to the surface. “One week, Logan! One whole damn week! She was at the hospital fighting for her life. For a predicament you put her in. Can you peek the darkness that dwells in you that way?! If I wasn’t around would you have ever signed that paper?! Have you always been like this?! How did I become friends with a devil’s incarnate?!”
Logan huffed in anger. He has had just about enough of what he feels is Kyrian’s tantrums. “Get out of my house, Kyrian!”
Kyrian snickered, placing both of his hands at the edge of the table and he held Logan’s gaze. “I promise you when she does get a wake up call and leaves, you would regret every moment of it.” He said before storming out of the study.
