Chapter 84 Her New Home
MYSTIC SHADOWS FORTRESS
Tommy sat in the car trying hard to control his breath but it just didn’t feel the same. He had thought it would be the usual sort of feeling for him like the times he beats Jovy up. However, he feels heavy in his chest knowing that he just sent her on like a suicide mission. At the same time, Tommy is still attempting to assure himself that he was doing Jovy a whole good by not having her killed.
‘What difference does this make?’ His wolf whispered.
Tommy shut his eyes tightly and he tried to focus on something else. Tommy’s heart went on a speedy race the moment his eyes caught sight of Jovy walking out with her luggage. He saw Amelia behind her wiping off a tear. He definitely wasn’t the only one feeling bad.
Jovy opened the back seat to drop her bag. “Where should I sit please?” She asked, not wanting to assume and end up getting a backlash.
Tommy sniffed as he stared out of the window cause his eyes was acting funny. “You can sit down anywhere you want.” He replied.
Deciding against being so close to him, Jovy sat down next to her bag. The ride was silent as the both of them had nothing to say to each other since they hardly talk on a normal day. It was a longer ride than Jovy would have expected and she had almost forgotten what Logan’s home looks like.
Getting off the car, she thought it was useless biding her father good bye since he was never interested in her welfare before. Tommy watched as the gates opened to allow her in and the moment it got closed back, it felt like she had been swallowed whole by the fierce cat. Not wanting to end up doing something stupid, Tommy drove off and he let the tears of guilt that he felt fall freely.
“Welcome ma’am.” The house butler ushered Jovy in.
Jovy looked around the house and it felt like it was her first time. The last time Jovy had been in the house, she had been unable to look around to her satisfaction to avoid annoying Logan. Now, she would be living right in the house for the rest of her life. Someone cleared his throat behind her and she jumped thinking it was Logan. It surprised her that it was his Beta instead. Jovy remembered him from the meeting at the pack council the other day.
Kyrian walked down the stairs while smiling brightly at her. “Welcome home, Luna. I am Kyrian, the Beta of Mystic Shadow Fortress.” He did a quick bow still maintaining the smile on his face.
Jovy’s heart melted. This was the first form of sheer kindness she had received from anyone at a first meeting. His face appeared quite familiar like she had seen it somewhere before. “Thank you, nice to meet you too. I am Jovy.” She mumbled, wondering why Logan was nowhere to be found since he asked for her to arrive early.
As if reading her thought, Kyrian spoke up. “You look tired, you should get some rest. Alpha Logan isn’t around at the moment cause he has an urgent meeting he is attending to.” Kyrian lied through his teeth.
If only Jovy knows her crazy intended husband is up in the study getting himself drunk and insisting on not seeing his intended wife’s face. Sometimes, Kyrian can’t help but wonder if anything blood like runs through Logan’s veins. He could tell from one look at the poor girl in front of him that she is exhausted.
Kyrian felt a pang of guilt since he was also an accomplice in making her forcefully marry Logan. Thinking of it they aren’t officially married yet. “Let me show you your room.” Kyrian offered. Jovy picked up her bag to follow him. “Oh, you don’t have to worry about that, someone would get it to the room later on.”
Jovy looked amused. “Alright, thanks.”
“You are welcome.”
Kyrian breathed out through his mouth as he opened the door to the room Logan had insisted Jovy must stay. “I do hope you don’t mind this space?”
Jovy smiled at him as her eyes scanned the room, it was far better from the attic she stayed in and the bed looks enticing more like it was calling onto her. “This is nice. Thank you.”
Kyrian make sure to smile broadly. He left the door handle and stepped out. Sudden tears laced Jovy’s eyes the moment the door closed behind her. The room already looks isolated and there is no doubt Logan has no plans to spend any time with her in the room.
Sitting down at the edge of the bed, Jovy searched her bag for her phone and unlocked the screen only to see about fifteen missed calls from Alice. She took in a deep breath and tried to drown the heaviness she was feeling within her. Alice would be too quick to notice her state of mind if she doesn’t play it mild.
‘Oh my goodness! Jovy! I almost thought that bastard has had you locked up.’ Alice bellowed into the receiver.
Jovy chuckled lightly. ‘It’s not so bad. Why are you sounding so negative?’
A long silence ensued from the other end of the line. ‘I was just so worried about you.’
‘I know Alice. But I promise I am fine.’
‘Have you gotten something to eat?’
‘I would soon. I just arrived about few minutes ago. I just knew you would have called me and I didn’t want to keep you waiting.’ Jovy explained.
‘Talk to me Jovy. What did he do to you?’
‘Stop being so paranoid, Alice. I haven’t set my eyes on him since I came in here. You know what let’s talk later tonight please. I would love to rest cause I have had a long day.’
‘Sure, I understand.’
Jovy tried to sniff back the tears as she disconnected the call but it did find its way out as she curled up against the bed. Jovy didn’t hold herself back this time and she let the tears fall freely. As much as Alice would risk her life to protect her, it’s still not the same with if Jovy’s mother was alive. The reality of how her life might become in the end made her more weary.
Jovy let herself off the pretense look and she cried heavily till sleep evaded her.
*****************************
Logan downed the last drop of whiskey in the glass and slammed it against the top of the table. It still seem like a fairy tale imagery to him. The same girl that drives him out of his mind is right under his roof. If this isn’t a tricky play of fate, he has no idea what else it is. Logan rubbed at his forehead as he heaved out loud.
Logan dipped himself further into the chair and he stared blankly at the wall. He had no idea why he had accepted her when he could have just sent her off. By the look of things, he would have no choice but to get used to seeing her face around every time. And also on the brighter side, no one at the Fortress would be able to question his ability anymore since he now has a Luna.
Still, it felt like he was being camped against his will. Having sex with Jovy was all fun while it lasted but it had never been his wish to keep seeing her face every day. He would have preferred any other person but not someone as weak and dumb as Jovy. Her meek personality was suppose to be a turn off for him, instead he found himself going back to her which is a source of major annoyance for him.
The door to the study creaked open and Kyrian let himself in. Kyrian had an accusing look on his face the moment he walked in and sat down. Pouring himself a drink in a fresh glass, he downed the content and let out a satisfied sound before returning a quizzing glare to Logan.
“Is there any explanation for this saucy attitude of yours?” He inquired.
Logan raised a flat brow. “What do you mean?”
Kyrian sighed in frustration. “You had asked for that girl to come right here as early as possible and here you are locked up in here like you know nothing about it.”
“Why are you whining about it?” Logan slurred. “Just because I asked her to be here early doesn’t mean I have any actual interest in seeing her.”
“I understand you have some form of hatred towards the female gender. But what exactly did this girl do to you?”
“Did I mention anything like that to you?”
“You don’t fool me Logan. All I am asking is for you to be a bit polite if not nice towards this girl. She is still too young and naive to be treated in such manner. For posterity sake, make her already flustered life have a little glimpse of hope.”
Logan scoffed. “Why should I be the one to give the glimpse of hope?”
Kyrian eye balled him. “Probably because only you has enough dose of pain to give in to her.”
Staying quiet, Logan poured himself another glass of drink and he sipped from it like he doesn’t give a care in the world. He has given the Fortress members what they need which obviously means he can also do whatever he wants to do. Not being obligated to anyone is what makes his life so easy.
“I can’t believe I let the debts of those knuckle heads go just because of one girl. One fucking girl!” He lamented bitterly.
Snatching the bottle from his hand, Kyrian kissed his teeth as he watched Logan intensely. Sometimes, he wished Logan would have a brighter view of life and does not see everything as a means to an end. Whatever happened while he was growing up is all in the past now and it’s high time Logan gives himself a break by allowing some kindness and love shine into his dark pit.
“You promised to do that if they let a girl go for you to marry. Don’t act like that wasn’t a huge favor they did.” Kyrian snickered at him. “Also, shouldn’t you be glad the Moon Goddess has a sort of soft spot for you? She let you have the exact person you rejected…so that should really excite you.”
Logan shot him a glare, “There is nothing to be excited about. Stop trying to make this look like a fun trip. I have to put up with that face for the rest of my life.” He bellowed.
Kyrian looked unfazed. “This right here is your duty to the Mystic Shadow Fortress so deal with it.”
“I hate you with every fibre in me.” Logan grimaced.
“The feeling is mutual. Do you know how much pain it is for me to come down to this house or the office and be subjected to seeing your face?”
“You should quit then.” He said in a playful tune.
“Now, this is where you get it all wrong. Being a Beta is my right and I have an obligation to fulfill. So, you won’t be the one to tell me what to do.”
Logan chewed on his lower lip. “If I wasn’t so in love with your parents and because I promised to keep my anger at bay as much as I can. I would have strangled your neck till it oozed out blood.”
Kyrian let out a fake gasp. “No one told me you had become a grim reaper.”
A small laugh escaped his lips. “Did you know she has a latent wolf?”
“I do know that, but what difference does it make? Your power is enough to cover for her lapses as a Luna. Moreover, no one has to know.” Kyrian replied with a shrug.
“Like I even care.” Logan scoffed.
Kyrian was about to give him a tight response when his phone message notification came on. He took the phone out of his pocket and a wide smile appeared on his face as he read the message content.
“Guess who is in town?!” He inquired looking up at Logan
Logan appeared disinterested. “Don’t ask me to guess whoever. Just spill it.”
“Arlo!”
The mention of Arlo made Logan feel something foreign shift inside of him. He didn’t realize how much the presence of the one kid he had been openly devoted to and had openly broken his trust would affect him.
“Is he coming around?” Logan asked.
Kyrian nodded. “Ahm…according to him…. yes! I would need to send him a car to pick him up at the airport.”
A thought struck Logan’s mind and it brought a bright smile to his face as he rubbed his hands together. He stood up to leave. “That sounds perfect, I would pick him up myself.”
Seeing the eagerness in him, Kyrian decided to stay back instead and let Logan have his way. “Sure then, he would be waiting at arrivals. I do hope the both of you eventually sort your issues out.”
Logan smoothened his shirt with confidence brewing on his face. “Trust me to handle this.” He has a wild motive to not let Arlo be until they have their issues sorted.
“Alright man!” Kyrian said.
Kyrian leaned further into the chair. He prayed silently that Arlo and Logan would compromise with each other.
