Chapter 83 It’s time
MIDNIGHT PACK: FINLAY’S HOME
Jovy opened the house door with her spare key and moved with extreme caution as she walked into the house. She had first thought of announcing her return but then she decided to head to her room instead.
Amelia stared from the kitchen doorway as Jovy came into the house. The sound of the door opening had made her peep to check who was at the door. Amelia watched her heading stealthily towards the stairs. She had come in a bit to early than expected. Diving back into the kitchen, Amelia dropped the bottle of water she had come to fetch from the fridge on the kitchen island.
Amelia paused for a moment as she stepped out of the kitchen. All the years that Amelia had spent living with Jovy she had despised the girl for no actual reason. However, she felt different seeing her now knowing Jovy was going through so much for a girl of her age.
Amelia had been disgusted by her mother’s reaction when she had entered into her room last night to gloat about her being the reason Jovy would no longer exist in their lives. It made Amelia realize how shallow she was just like her mother. Where Jovy got sent to is more like a death sentence.
The story of how ruthless the Alpha of Mystic Shadows Fortress was not a rumor but a truth that serves as a warning to anyone who misbehaves towards the fortress. Having someone as innocent as Jovy be subjected to living with such person made Amelia’s heart ache for her.
Amelia would have never thought of being considerate of Jovy if she hadn’t gotten her own fair share of life’s imbalanced state.
Standing rigidly at Jovy’s door, Amelia had no idea what she was doing and just when she turned around, rebuking herself for even thinking of coming in the first place the door opened. Amelia turned swiftly with her eyes wide looking like a deer caught in the headlight.
Jovy glanced around the hallway wondering what Amelia was doing at her door. “What do you want Amelia? Did you come here to confirm if I had gone? You really don’t have to worry I would be leaving with dad this morning.” She said sounding exhausted.
Not saying a word Amelia pushed her back into the room to Jovy’s surprise and locked the door behind her. “Why are you here?” Amelia whisper yelled, glancing back at the door obviously worried that someone might open the door.
Aurora looked confused. “What are you talking about?”
“Shouldn’t you have run as far as you could when you had the chance to? Why are you back here?” Amelia queried.
“Of course I had to come home first, I can’t run off to anywhere.” Jovy replied.
Amelia slapped her forehead. “Do you know you sound stupid right now?” Looking around like she lost something, Amelia grabbed Jovy phone off the bed and handed it over to her. “Here, call your boyfriend now and ask him to come get you away from here. I would help you escape.”
“What boyfriend?” Jovy had never seem so confused all her life like she is right now.
“The one you run off to meet. Damn it!” Amelia pulled at her hair in frustration.
Jovy snatched her phone from her hand. “I don’t have any boyfriend. And I really don’t know what you are doing here. Am I suppose to think that you really care and would love to help me? Please Amelia, I have had enough of your drama.”
A painful look crossed Amelia’s face. “You need to leave!”
“Don’t tell me what to do! You never cared. Now that you have gotten what you want you are here looking heartbroken for me. Why the hell are you here in the first place?” Jovy wailed.
Amelia whimpered, losing the might to keep up as she sank into the bed with her head bowed. “I am so sorry, Jovy. Now I feel so bad for all that I did to you. As much as I don’t really like you, I don’t wish for you to be thrown in the lion’s mouth. Not this way.”
Jovy sat next to her although with a bit of distance between them. She stared into space short of words. Amelia sniffed with her head turned to the wall. “I envied your untainted life, you knew what you wanted and didn’t get deterred despite how much you were being hurt by us all. Unlike me who had everything I wanted and still got messed up due to my recklessness.” She wiped off the lone tear that trickled down her face. “I didn’t mean to sleep with Alice’s dad. I had to do it because Jared wanted me too. He bullied and blackmailed me with my nude pictures into getting him money by selling my body to the ones who would pay well. I feel like trash every time and decided to take it out on you. I am just as awful as you can imagine.”
Jovy giggled lightly to Amelia’s surprise. “I guess I am not the only one who does stupid things then.”
Amelia wiped at her face and turned to look at her. “What do you mean?”
“The same person I am being sold out to as a mate is the same person I have been risking my head for sneaking away from home.” Jovy looked sad as she said it.
“Sounds like a good thing, but why do you look so sad? Shouldn’t you be happy that you have seen a softer side of him?”
Jovy laughed dryly. “He is as cold as described. Colder to be sincere. He treats me like his fuck toy and my dumb self is in love with him.”
Amelia burst out into a fit of laughter and Jovy joined in. They resolved into a bout of tears after. Wiping her tears off, Amelia snickered. “Our life is so shitty.”
Jovy shook her head as she sniffed too. “I would agree with you on that.”
They both stayed silent for a while. Amelia held Jovy’s hands gazing into her eyes. “This is the first time I would sit this close to you without thinking of shading you. If I knew how nice it felt being a friend or a sister to you maybe I would have done better at being a nice person towards you. I am sorry this is coming late. But if anything at all, please call me I promise to be of help in anyway I can.”
Tears filled Jovy’s eyes as she tried to blink them away. Unintentionally, she pulled Amelia into a tight embrace and she let her tears fall freely.
“Thank you so much, Amelia. This few minutes would be cherished forever. Thanks for opening up to me.”
Amelia smiled as she wiggled out of her hold. “I hope we both find peace eventually.”
“I hope so too.” Jovy said. She stood up to move to her closet. “Do you mind helping me pack?”
“Aren’t you going to become a Luna soon, why do you need your old clothes?” Amelia joked.
“What if he decides the Luna won’t get a dime from him?” Jovy retorted.
Amelia faked a shiver. “That would sure give me the chills.”
They both laughed at that and folded the clothes with a comfortable silence. Jovy’s heart ached at how her life had turned. She would have never thought her step sister would come to her and extend a hand of friendship. For a moment, Jovy had intended to send Amelia out but one look at her face she could see the sincerity in it. She felt at peace. And just when they were about to zip the bag, a knock was heard on the door.
“It’s time!” Amelia whispered.
