Chapter 77 Why so many why’s
MIDNIGHT PACK
Jovy screamed like a maniac, trying hard to wake herself up from the dream. When she had walked into the board room, she should have known it wasn’t going to be a good deal for her. Looking towards her father, she couldn’t believe he would go to such length just to get rid of her.
No one had seen the Mystic Shadows Alpha before but he is described to be ruthless and cruel in his actions. For years, his fortress council members had been on a search to get him a mate and it had been a futile search as no one was interested in becoming a victim of torture and depression. Jovy felt like her whole world was crashing down on her and the ache she felt in her chest was explosive.
The Alpha and his pack council members stared in awe at Jovy’s reaction as she kept screaming and throwing out her legs like she would go mad. They knew she would be unsettled with the deal but none of them expected her to loose her mind this way. Letting out all of the noise in her lungs, Jovy stared into space while heaving hard and her head was turning. She felt dizzy.
Trying to get herself up, Jovy stumbled against the table and she headed out of the room uncertain of where she is headed. Tommy gulped hard as he stared at Ava but she looked away from him. Realizing he is on his own, Tommy went after Jovy and when he opened the door he found her in the hallway seated on the floor with her back again the wall.
“Jovy.” He called out gently. His conscience pricking him.
Jovy scoffed as she stared up from her lap with her eyes red and swollen. “Why do you hate me so much? What did I do to you?”
Tommy tapped his pocket as he looked away from making an eye contact with her. “This is for your own good. You would be glad I did you this favor.”
“How is this for my own good?” She spat in distaste. “I know you hate me, but why didn’t just murder me instead.”
“Stop acting so rude.” Tommy rebuked.
Jovy laughed hysterically, “I would act whichever way I want. You won’t be the one to tell me what to do. Why are you doing this to me dad?!” She yelled.
Tommy gritted his teeth, getting annoyed by her questions. “Keep your bloody mouth shut! Do you know how much stress you put me through and how much I have had to do to scale you through your hell hole?!”
“Are you admitting living with you was an hellhole?”
“Jovy!”
Gulping hard, Jovy wondered where she got the courage to talk back at her father. Still, when she stared at him, she didn’t feel sorry for saying how she felt exactly. The thought of killing herself lingered on her mind but she was too much of a coward to carry such an act out. Her whole life flashed right in front of her and she wished things were different and probably if her mother was to be alive maybe, just maybe it wouldn’t be this way.
Fresh tears flowed from her eyes as she stared up at him. She held his gaze. “Just one question…why do you hate me so much? What did I do to you? Is there something I need to know that you aren’t telling me?”
Her eyes burnt a large hole in Tommy’s heart which made him look away. As much as he had transferred his aggression towards Jovy for the sins her mother committed, he knew she didn’t deserve it. Tommy got saddled by more guilt at the sight of her innocence. The thought of any of his own children being treated badly for the sins he committed made him want to cower away in shame. But the deed had already been done and also needed to take place if he must save himself and family.
The fortune owned by Elena and Jovy is being fought over by many especially those who deserve nothing of it. Tommy felt it was his place to keep it all, because he had sustained and maintained the asset all through the time Elena was alive and when she died. There was no way he would allow just about anyone take almost half of all that he worked for. He could have decided to sideline the brothers and give a little asset to Jovy and letting her go with the half truth that she isn’t his daughter. But knowing how desperate Elena’s stepbrothers are, they would expose the whole truth and make Jovy seek for revenge against him. So it was better to have her locked away at a far outreach and not having to think about her anymore.
Jovy observed the man that she had cherished and looked up to all her life as her father, even though she knew he didn’t deserve to be called that considering the cruel way he had treated her. She would have never imagined that he would give her away at a glance and also making her sign her life away under a disguise.
“Answer me!” Jovy bickered. “If this is the last good thing you would do. Why do you treat me this way?”
The urge to tell Jovy who she is to him felt really strong, but Tommy knew that would be a risky attempt. Rather, he kept turning away from her to compose himself. Clearing his throat, Tommy looked towards her again. “The only thing I can tell you is, this is a way to keep you safe. Also you are doing the pack a huge favor which will make you ingrained in Midnight pack history for years to come. You are helping the pack pay a huge debt off by becoming Mystic Shadows Fortress Alpha’s mate.”
“To keep me safe?” Jovy scoffed. “From the pack or you?” She retorted.
Tommy scoffed. “Think whichever way you want to, that’s the truth you would get from me and nothing more.”
Jovy let out a sigh. “I don’t expect better though.”
“For your own good don’t try to run off because your soon to be husband would be here in some minutes to see you. That’s all I would tell you. So when you are done getting yourself together come back to the board room and also maybe grab some water. It’s going to be a long night.” After saying that, walked away from her and returned to the room.
Jovy couldn’t believe that the longest conversation she would have with her father would be about him selling her off. Looking up to the roof, her eyes watered again at the thought. Why was her life so different from others? Alice had cried over her parents separating but she still has her mom with her. Despite Amelia being bitchy, Jovy envies her for having a mother who lives as her ride or die. Knowing Ava had information on her daughter’s exploit she still didn’t give her away. All her life her own father had treated her like a piece of garbage and she can’t seem to remember how her mother was.
Mumbling of how pathetic her life was, Jovy stood up, dusted her butt and braced herself to meet the devil that has been gifted to her. The mere thought of ending up with a terrifying mate made her laugh dryly, to think that she had wished for a romantic filled love all her life.
Jovy almost backed into the wall when her eyes met with the last person she would expect to see in Midnight Pack premises.
“Logan.” Her voice called out in one breath.
