Chapter 76 The Deception
MIDNIGHT PACK: CLARK’S HOME
Seeing Jovy’s expression, Alice and Anna ran towards her with each of them on her side. “What’s the matter Jovy? Why do you look like you had heard from a ghost.” Alice inquired, shaking her intensely.
Getting a hold of herself, Jovy stared at them. “My dad wants me to be at a place by five.”
“Did he state any reason why?” Anna asked.
“No, he only said to meet him at an address he would forward to my phone now. And I shouldn’t be a second late.” Jovy replied.
Alice went to Jovy’s bag to dig out her phone, unlocking the phone she went straight to her message. Her brows twitched in confusion. “Why would he send you an address to the Council?”
Jovy and Anna moved to Alice. Anna took the phone from her. “This is where the Alpha and the rest of the pack council members meet and converse.”
Jovy bit on her lips hard as she tried to keep still. “Do you think I have been reported to the Alpha by my dad?”
Anna nodded. “Maybe.”
“Man obviously got tired of you running off.” Alice muttered. “But that doesn’t imply me supporting him spreading out his white linens.”
“It’s my fault and I guess I should be ready to bear the consequences.” Jovy responded, fixating her shoulders to keep a straight face.
“No matter what happens you can always come back here, we are here for you.” Anna assured her.
“Thank you so much Mrs Clark.” Jovy muttered.
“Get me my car keys Alice. I would drop Jovy off. It won’t be that easy to find a public transport to get there.” Anna said.
“I will come with you too.” Alice uttered as she went in search for the key. “Here it is.” She announced in excitement.
Not taking any more time, they all went to the car and Anna sped off into the road. Jovy hoped fervently that she wasn’t about to get disowned in the presence of the whole pack. It scared her that her father can actually go to such length without any remorse.
As the car moved closer to the stated destination, she couldn’t help the thoughts that kept running through her mind. She hoped her escapades with Logan has not been discovered.
Anna halted the car in front of a tall building. “We are here, Jovy. Should we wait?”
Jovy shook her head. “I don’t think there would be a need for that. Thanks so much ma’am. Alice, I would call you as soon as I am done.”
Alice stepped out of the car in a hurry and she pulled her friend into a hug. “Don’t hesitate to call me.”
“I won’t.” She replied.
Jovy turned away trying to hide the tears threatening to fall as she walked stealthily towards the building. She pulled out her phone from her bag to call her father.
He picked on the first ring. ‘Where are you?’
‘I am at the entrance.’ She replied.
‘Wait right there I would come get you.’
That’s all he said and hung up. Jovy let out a shaky breath. After waiting for about ten minute, she sighted her father coming towards her.
Jovy moved hurriedly towards him. ‘Hey dad.’
Tommy rumbled in reply as he gestured to her to follow him. They walked towards the elevator. Her legs tapped on the floor stealthily as she moved behind him. Entering the elevator, Jovy held in her breath and didn’t say anything. She had never been in such a close space with her father. Standing in the same place, few feet apart from him aside when he plummets her had fear gripping her inner walls.
The elevator dinged distracting her thoughts. Her father stepped out and she followed him on his way to wherever he was headed.
“You would come in when I call you.” Tommy said to her as he walked into the room.
Trying to steady her breath, Jovy shook her head in acknowledgement and with shaky nerves.
“I am so sorry please, I had to go bring her real quick.” Tommy muttered amidst strain breath as he sat back in the meeting.
Midnight pack council members are all seated discussing on their alliance with the Mystic Shadows Fortress.
“How certain are we that this wouldn’t back fire?” One of the members asked.
“She would be signing a contract that would bind her to not attempting to run away or mess around.” Tommy responded.
Alpha Adrian smirked “I didn’t know you would take this much measures. That is so thoughtful of you.”
Ava had an hidden smile on her face. She had advised Tommy on taking some sort of legal actions even though it’s not exactly legal as there was no Court that would allow such infringement on an individual’s life. Instead they had drafted a not so legal document all for the sake of fooling Jovy. They are doing all they can to leave no stone unturned and ensuring that everything works according to plan.
Tommy looked around as the Alpha and his pack council members discussed in whispers. His breath was so shaky and it felt like blood would drain out of him soon. He wanted to get it all over and done with. Being in the same close space with Jovy, he almost choked thinking he was in there with Elena. His chest tightened, hoping he wouldn’t pass out before getting off the elevator.
“I guess we have all come to an agreement, she can come in now.” Adrian ordered.
“Yes Alpha.” Tommy responded. He dialed Jovy’s line.
‘You can come in.’ He said into the receiver.
‘Okay dad.’
The doorknob turned indicating someone’s entrance. Jovy’s breath seized when she saw the whole council seated and staring wide eyed at her.
Jovy blinked consistently. ‘Go…go…good day to you all.” She stuttered, bowing her head at every second.
Adrian smiled at her as he stretched out his hand. “Come, come Jovy.” He called out to her.
Jovy walked rigidly towards him. “Good evening Alpha.” She couldn’t breathe in and out properly as she took each step.
“How are you doing?” Adrian tried to be as pleasant as he can get but his conscience was judging his every move and breath.
Jovy managed to summon some courage and she looked into his eyes. “I am fine. Thank you Alpha. Please why am I here?”
Letting out an uncomfortable cough, Adrian glanced at the others for help but they all look away. Well it was obvious they already expect him to be the anchor. Adrian cleared his throat, sat upright and stared into her eyes. “You have been chosen for a good cause to help save Midnight pack.”
For the first time since she entered into the board room, Jovy had a steady breath. “Really?”
“Yes.” Adrian mused. “But first we would all have to sign a treaty which everyone here has been given a copy and have all signed individually. With this all we need now is for you to sign secrecy…because it’s a top pack secret we are letting you in on.” He practically lied through his teeth, from his side eye and he could see the others mumbling to themselves.
Jovy seemed eager to know it all at that point. She was glad that her father and the rest of the pack thought her good enough to be a part of the pack development.
“If it will help the pack then I will sign it.” Jovy said.
Jovy was given the document and she was shown where to append her signature. The council held their breaths till she signed the paper off. Taking the papers from her, Adrian pat her shoulder gently with a smile that looked strained on his lips. “Please make seat for Jovy.”
They left her a chair at the edge where she could face the others. “Thanks.” Jovy muttered as she sat down.
“Tommy, please do the honors.” Adrian directed at her father.
Tommy cleared his throat, looking straight faced at his supposed daughter, “You have been chosen by the pack as a mate to the Alpha of Mystic Shadows Fortress.”
Jovy stared in bewilderment. “What?!”
“What he is trying to say is that you just signed an agreement to be sold off to the Mystic Shadows Fortress as their to be Luna.” Ava explained to her with a devious smile.
All of a sudden, Jovy let out an ear deafening noise in disbelief.
