Chapter 68 His Decision
MIDNIGHT PACK: FINLAY’S HOME
Ava had to jolt out of the sleep she was slowly drifting into. She bit back on her tongue to prevent the folds of scream threatening to blurt from her mouth. There was never a thing referred to as peace of mind in the dictionary of the Finlay’s. There was always one trouble or the other that they had to deal with. Checking the time, it was only few minutes to dinner and it seem like a lifetime due to the activities of the day.
Pushing herself up from the floor, Ava went into the bathroom to wash her tear stricken face. Ava and Tommy might seem like the happy perfect couple but they aren’t exactly best of friends cause too many circumstances surrounded their being together. Staring at her reflection in the mirror, Ava looked unrecognizable with her perfectly made bun all out of place and the mascara all drooling down her eyes. A raccoon was the perfect description of what she look like.
Ava washed her face in a hurry and set her hair back in place. She changed into a more comfy dress knowing they would be having dinner since Tommy was back. Dinner was more like a forced tradition in the house. Sometimes she wondered if Tommy isn’t a psychopath who loves the idea of a perfect family but can’t afford to keep one. Whenever he returns from work, after pulling off his tie, the next thing on his agenda is to walk straight up to the dining and act like a loving father. In all truth though, Tommy does treat Amelia like his own and it made her mind feel at peace whenever she was away.
“Ava!” Tommy called out again. She could sense the impatience in his voice.
Getting a hold of herself, Ava stepped out of the room with her eyes scanning the hallway and Amelia’s door. She almost barked a fit of laughter, when she found Amelia sitting next to Tommy, looking bright and sharp. Her hair was put down to cover both of her cheeks that had been bruised from the slaps.
Ava felt no remorse seeing her that way. She was the older one and really deserves some respect.
“I was just about to come find you, what took you so long?” Tommy asked.
“I was trying to take a nap.” Ava replied as she glanced sideways at Amelia who was trying all she could to avoid her mother’s eyes.
Tommy could sense the tension between the mother and daughter duo which was unlikely. But they were women and he doesn’t want to be dragged into their mess. What mattered was for him to find a route of escape for himself. To be sure Ava knew what she was saying about Jovy, he had turned back in his haste to return home and had drove down to the Clark’s home.
As if on cue, Jovy and Alice came out just in time when he parked few blocks away. The two of them laughing at something as they carried that appears to be groceries from the car booth into the house. Staring at her from afar, she looked almost like Elena. The two of them were just few looks apart and that would be because of the age range. Jovy would be twinning with her mother in few years time and he hoped he would never be able to see her again by then.
Tommy had gotten tired of living the lie and intends to move farther from all of the drama and that includes disposing off Jovy and getting an actual divorce from Ava. Even though he knows how tough that would seem knowing how into her head Ava was, he doesn’t give a damn anymore and just wants peace of mind.
Deciding that it would all be sorted between now and the next day, he drove back home feeling hopeful and a bit light. It felt like a good time to have what seem like a last good supper with his supposed family of over a decade.
“You seem so relaxed, have you found Jovy yet?” Ava found her voice after taking a whole glass of juice to relax her mind.
“Yeah, I went to affirm her return and saw her with Alice. She looked really happy.” He said absentmindedly, before turning his attention to Amelia. “Hey pumpkin, I heard Jovy tried to bully you today.”
Amelia gulped hard as she nodded pitifully. “I know she hates me so much, but never knew it would get to the extent of her searching for ways to hurt me.” Saying that, Amelia moved her hair behind her ear to showing Tommy her bruised face.
Ava kissed her teeth, looking away as the cheek she had landed the slaps on looked really red. Guilt ride all over her when her eyes met with Amelia’s eyes.
“I am sorry mom.” Amelia mouthed to her when Tommy wasn’t looking.
She could sense the wheels turning in Tommy’s head. After her mother had left her room, Amelia had a rethink of what Ava had said and realized she was right. Amelia had nothing to her name and the whole life she has at the moment was all due to her mother’s generosity. And knowing her mother to always keep her word, it would be unfair for her to have to live on the streets or look up to Jared to survive. Knowing how much Ava despises Jovy, she had made up her mind to lie against her to get her mother’s approval and a needed sympathy from Tommy.
Tommy cussed as he tried to touch Amelia’s cheek and she winced in pains. “Jovy is really something. I always knew that Alice was a bad influence on her.” Dropping his hand, he let out a small smile. “But not to worry, you won’t be seeing her anytime soon.”
Amelia’s ears perked at that. She looked towards her mother who seem to be finally cool with her. “How?”
“She would be getting sold off to one of the most fearful and dangerous werewolf of our time.” Ava replied dramatically.
“I still don’t get you two.” Amelia said with a confused look on her face.
Tommy raised a finger as he dropped his phone on the table. “Just wait a second.” He said. Tommy dialed a line that got picked on the third ring.
‘Having the prestigious Finlay call me tonight, I definitely would have a good night rest.’ Alpha Adrian humorous voice rang through the room.
Ava and Amelia exchanged a knowing glance before looking away. None of them had an idea of who Tommy had intended to call.
Tommy chuckled. ‘It’s always an honor hearing from you.’
‘To what do I owe this pleasant call?’
‘Ava informed me of the trouble the pack is having and what we must do to protect the dignity of Midnight Pack. So I have decided to be a patriotic one and give away my daughter.’
There was a long pause before Adrian whispered. ‘You don’t say! Are you sure about this?’
‘I mean every word dear Alpha. Please call a council meeting, I will be handing her over tomorrow evening. Do have a good night rest.’
‘Oh…okay…okay.’ Alpha Adrian stuttered.
Tommy disconnected the call. He looked towards the women with pride. “I told you it would all be sorted soon.” Digging into his food, he murmured under his breath. “It is time to get this over and done with.”
Ava stared deeply into her daughter’s eyes almost trying to pass on a silent message. Things were finally falling into place and probably it was time for her to get what she deserved of Elena and Jovy’s inheritance.
