Chapter 60 Suspension
MIDNIGHT PACK: FINLAY HIGH SCHOOL
Jovy stared wide eyed at Alice when Amelia collapsed due to her hit and went silent. “If she is dead that would make me happier!” Alice muttered. An unbothered look grazed her expression.
Jovy couldn’t explain the reason behind her calmness. On a normal day she would have panicked. Moreover, she wouldn’t have come with Alice on her destructive plan but there was practically nothing normal about her life anymore.
“We are definitely ending up in jail for this.” Jovy said as she tried so hard not to snicker.
Alice bent towards Amelia’s body and pulled her up a bit. She searched through her bag for a bottle of water and practically emptied the whole content on her.
Amelia coughed out in less than a minute. Taylor snorted. “Wow! I thought my fist was a knockout. But it turned out I am a bit wrong.”
Breathing heavily, Amelia looked around like she had lost her memory. “I…I…I really don’t want to…do this with you…Alice…” She stuttered.
“I can’t believe you still have some nerves inside of you!” Alice barked back as she shook her head
Trying to sit her body up, Amelia hoped her tormentor would be sensitive enough to not touch her. She had been feeling some sort of weakness all morning. The actual truth was she had an abortion which was unknown to Jared. The pregnancy was for Jared and she was sure of it. But she choose to keep it as a secret to herself even though he had played the game of her pretending to be carrying Henry Clark’s child. She couldn’t imagine having a child for someone as monstrous as Jared. There was still a need for her to get enough rest, but there hadn’t been much time for her to do so and to avoid any form of suspicion from her mother especially.
“Why are you looking so pale?” Jovy sounded concerned.
Amelia threw her a vicious glare. “Don’t you dare say a word to me.”
All of a sudden, she became too uncomfortable in the environment and Jovy eased towards her friend. “Let’s get out of here, Alice.” She advised.
Alice nodded in agreement for them to back out and both of them moved as fast as their legs could carry them through another route away from the garden. As much as it had sounded like something they could throw around freely, none of them wants to be in detention.
“Where are we going?” Jovy queried when Alice guided the both of them towards the school exit.
“Running off for the day. Knowing Amelia quite well she would do all she can to throw the both of us in a dungeon and most especially you. Having you stand against her would have bruised a whole lot of her ego.” Alice responded.
Jovy gave her friend a once over. “I can’t believe our little Alice has grown so much.”
“Shut the hell up!” Alice let out a laughter which Jovy joined in.
“What do you have in mind?”
“Return home and wait the storm out.”
“Can we get some burger along the way?”
Alice shot her an amused look. “I can’t believe someone thinks skipping school is cool.”
Jovy tilted her head to look at Alice. “I did so for a whole week, might as well enjoy the freedom while it lasts.”
“That’s my girl! Let’s get out of here.”
Sneaking their way through the park, the both of them made for Alice’s car and almost crashed into another person’s car in their haste to leave. Jovy screamed in excitement as the car got into the road. “I can’t believe we did that!”
“History will remember this.” Alice laughed along.
The ride was quick and short. They got their burgers, plus some chicken and fries to go with it. Alice parked the car and the both of them made their way into the house with the thoughts of having the house to themselves.
“Since when did you both begin to indulge in skipping classes and running off after causing chaos?” Anna, Alice’s mom had stopped them on their tracks at the foot of the stairs.
They turned towards her mother while Alice grinned awkwardly. “Hey mom.”
Jovy mirrored Alice’s expression too. “Hi…Mrs Anna.”
Anna didn’t seem like she was interested in their pleasantries. “You can save that for yourselves. Now, I need an explanation right this minute as to why you cut classes.”
“It’s just this once mom.” Alice argued.
“Don’t use that tone with me young lady. Why the hell did you turn yourself into a wild fighter Alice?!” Anna practically screamed and it took everything inside of her to not throw a tantrum.
“I had to do what is needed! That girl is the reason behind the problem this family is going through right now.” Alice said as tears laced her eyes.
“I never asked you to fight for me.” Anna mumbled.
The look on Alice’s face made her heart constrict. She looked betrayed. Gripping the railings of the staircase, Alice gritted. “I am not fighting for you. This family is just as important to me as it is to you and no one not even you would tell me what to do to protect my family.” Alice blurted before stomping away angrily.
Jovy looked torn as she didn’t know what she was meant to do. One thing she was certain of was that following Alice when she clearly needed space would turn out messy. When she looked towards Anna, she could almost see the poor woman looking white.
After deciding on what to do, Jovy moved towards Anna. “Should I get you some water?”
Anna nodded slowly. “I would appreciate it.” She said, lowering herself into the nearest couch.
Dropping her backpack, Jovy made her way into the kitchen to get a cold bottle water from the fridge. She poured out the content into a glass cup and returned to Anna.
“Thank you.” Anna muttered. She gulped down the water like she had been dehydrated for a long time.
Taking the cup from her, Jovy placed it down and stared at her. It was obvious Anna needed to talk to someone and since she wasn’t busy or had anything to do, she didn’t mind offering a listening ear.
“I am a pathetic mother right?” Anna said amidst a scoff.
Jovy shook her head in disagreement. “No you are not.”
Anna sniffed. “That’s so sweet of you, Jovy. Even if I was…you still wouldn’t say it to my face.”
Jovy heaved a sigh as she reached out to hold her hands. “You are an amazing mother, Mrs Anna and I envy Alice for being so lucky. Whatever has happened isn’t your fault. There was no way you could have controlled it. What matters is you getting yourself together and being there for your daughter. Alice might appear strong, but I can tell you she is crumbling inside.”
Anna looked towards the stairs and nodded her head in agreement. “I was too selfish mopping around and not considering what effect it also had on her.”
“Are we really getting suspended?” Jovy asked.
“I pleaded for them to let it all die out, agreeing that you both would apologize to Amelia for scaring her.”
“I guess I can swallow my pride and do that much.” Jovy said with a shrug.
All of a sudden, Anna pulled her in for a hug. “Thanks Jovy.”
Jovy was taken aback and she stared in shock. “What did I do?”
Anna sighed. “Thanks for standing by Alice.”
“Alice would have done the same for me.” Suddenly, Jovy remembered something and she pulled out of the embrace. “I almost forgot our take out. I feel like I have a means to lighten her mood. Please excuse me Mrs Anna.” Jovy moved away to grab her backpack.
Anna nodded as she watched Jovy pick up her bag. She hoped her daughter would have Jovy by her side for a long time. For e hen she was gone, she would need someone to really stand by her. She had acted selfish over the years and didn’t do what was expected of her to protect her daughter. The mere thought of how much of Henry’s insolence she had condoned made her really angry. To think she had the notion that it was all for her family’s sake and to make their daughter happy, but it was all for her own selfish habit of not wanting to let go of the man of her prime. She loved him too much and had let him off the hook too much.
Now it was time for her to do what was right and that is safeguarding Alice’s future even in her absence.
