Chapter 38 Son of a gun!
SAN FRANCISCO
Walking into the expensively furnished cabin made her quite skeptical and it felt lonely. The hugeness of the penthouse didn’t look surprising anymore as it looked smaller compared to Logan’s home. She was surprised that the stay in place wasn’t a hotel and it was looking more like a vacation home. The moment the gates opened and the driver rode through a line of trees on both side it had scared her a bit. Only when the house came into view did she feel at ease a bit. Knowing how rich Logan looked, she could bet he owned the place.
Jovy awed at the beauty and simplicity of the cabin. The feel of nature mixed with modernity makes her feel at ease. As she walked around the house, it was obvious the house created a comfortably contemporary place to stay while honoring the woodlands at the same time. The house was dominated by painted wood surfaces both inside and outside. Even though the decor and shape of the house are unmistakably modern, the architects did an admirable job of infusing a contemporary design into a rustic environment. It felt amazing.
Heading back into where she feels could be considered as the masters bedroom due to its space, she looked around and sighed. Jovy dumped her whole body into the soft spring bed and she let out a long moan. It felt so comfy that she could spend all of her time in it sleeping away.
Jovy jerked up all of a sudden and she searched through her bag for her phone. A part of her wished to find a missed call or a message from an unknown number that could be Logan’s and him just asking if she finds the place comfortable. But he was a strange man and obviously doesn’t indulge in such things that a person like him might consider petty.
Jovy shook off the shallow feeling as she put on her phone hoping her father wouldn’t call in at that moment. Even if he did she had no intention of picking up. Instead, she dialed Alice’s line on a FaceTime.
One would think Alice had been awaiting the call since forever as she picked almost immediately.
‘Hey! I almost thought you had been murdered!’ Alice screamed.
Jovy giggled. ‘You, my friend is a psycho. Why would you even think that?!’
Alice shook her head in disagreement ‘Nah. You are the crazy one. Who goes on a trip with a stranger? Who does that?’
Jovy rolled her eyes. ‘Jovy Finlay does that! I do.’ She giggled.
Alice paused for a moment, squinting her eyes to peep behind her best friend. ‘Wait a minute, that place doesn’t look like an hotel.’ She noted, when her eyes caught sight of the house glasses showing the woods. ‘Where the hell are you?’
Jovy jumped up in excitement as she walked towards the glass. ‘You need to see this house! Alice, it is crazy!’ Jovy screamed as she turned the camera to show Alice the room.
‘Wait a second!’ Alice’s voice boomed. ‘Give me a minute to move far away from these prying eyes.’
Jovy could here her running and panting and after what seem like a long minute she finally stopped her breath unsteady.
‘What’s wrong?’ She asked with a confused look on her face.
Alice puffed and huffed dramatically. ‘The things I do for love…’
‘I can’t relate. So why were you running?’ Jovy teased.
‘I was at the cafeteria and you do know how vicious these bitches are!’
Jovy’s heart beat faster. ‘Amelia? She was around you?’
Alice sighed. ‘Her puppies. But she came to me this morning asking for your whereabouts. I don’t know much, but one thing I am sure of is you my lady is in for a long time home imprisonment.’
Jovy breathed out. ‘You don’t need to tell me.’ A sad look grazed her expression.
‘Hey! Hey! That’s enough of the brooding. I ran all the way here for a reason, show me.’
That got Jovy out of her sour mood as she smiled widely. ‘Damn! This place is fucking great!’ She walked all around the house, from the kitchen to the extra rooms to an outdoor dining and a small artificial lake that seem like one could swim in.
‘Damn! How rich did you say this guy was?’ Alice mused.
“To be honest…” Jovy responded as she walked back into the house. ‘I don’t know myself.’
‘You are in for the good life my baby.’
Jovy nodded her head as she pulled one of the dining chairs and sat on it. ‘How crazy do you think I am?’
‘Like batshit crazy if I must say!’
Jovy sighed. ‘I can’t help the overwhelming feeling, Alice. It’s almost like I can’t feel any other thing when he talks and there is this sort of dominance he possesses over me that I can’t explain.’
‘If your wolf isn’t almost invisible, I would have said you have finally met with your mate.’
Jovy sat up properly. ‘Do you think he is my mate?’
Jovy snorted. ‘First things first, do you know if he is a werewolf?’
‘Maybe, maybe not. I really can’t tell. This latent wolf of a thing…is really a deficiency.’
‘Is it safe to say you have a pathetic life?’
‘Shut your mouth!’
Alice laughed heartily. ‘I almost forgot to ask, did you inform Arlo of your trip?’
Jovy scratched the back of her neck uncomfortably. She adjusted herself on the seat. ‘Not really.’
Alice raised her eyebrows. ‘What do you mean by that?’
‘It seems like Arlo knows Logan. Or maybe not, but he saw us kissing and-‘
‘What?’ Alice interrupted with a shocked look on her face. ‘Please tell me you are making the joke all up?’
‘I wish I was Alice.’
‘How the hell did you let that happen?’
‘He grabbed me all of a sudden and kissed me just outside the diner.’
‘Wait a second, how did Arlo get to see you both in the first place?’
‘Have you forgotten he had called at school to inform me of his coming.’
‘Right. I remember now.’
‘So honestly I was quite excited about it only for Logan to show up out of the blue.’
‘That motherfucker! I haven’t met him but I can clearly tell he is trouble!’
‘Alice!’ Jovy muttered sounding helpless.
‘Are you really trying to defend him right now?’
Jovy bit hard on her lips unsure of what to say. As much as she knew Logan’s attitude was strange and totally unexplainable, she still can’t stand him being called names. She definitely has lost her mind in less than three weeks for her to indulge in too many things she would have never thought to do. Skipping classes has become a norm, an act that was totally abominable when her mind wasn’t this clouded.
‘I am so not liking this. Do you need me to buy you a return ticket back home?’ Alice interrupted her train of thought.
‘No, Alice.’
‘Well, it’s not too late, you could return today and tell your dad you had been in school and Amelia was lying. It’s alright if you leave right this minute-‘
‘Stop!’ Jovy yelled. ‘Stop it Alice. This isn’t about just leaving or anyone else. I want to be here.’
Alice stared in disbelief with anger forming on her expression. ‘Have you lost it completely?’
‘You don’t understand how I feel?’
‘Have you been jinxed?’
‘If you don’t understand how I feel, Alice, no one else would!’ Jovy was getting burdened with her constant need to explain the situation she found herself.
She could tell Logan has no interest in her and it’s all just for the sex. But the ease she gets from being wanted by a hunk like him makes her thoughts extremely wild.
‘I can’t believe this!’ Alice groaned as she dragged her palm on her face.
‘I am sorry, Alice.” Jovy sniffed.
‘Wait a minute! Where the hell is that son of a gun?!’ Alice bellowed into the receiver.
‘I am right here.’ Logan’s rigid tone boomed from behind.
