Chapter 29 I am the Alpha
MYSTIC SHADOWS FORTRESS
Arlo and Kyrian exchanged glances at the sudden change of Logan’s expression. He had gone rigid immediately at the look of the picture. Tired of being kept in suspense, Kyrian snatched the phone from him and tried to find out the reason for Logan’s look. He also tried to find out any form similarity to the picture and his eyes almost popped out of their sockets when he pictured the face.
“Logan, this isn’t what I am thinking right?” Kyrian let out in a rasp breath.
Arlo only stared at the both of them as if they had grown new heads. He wiggled his brows in confusion. “Can you both let me in on this secret of yours?” He inquired.
Logan blinked severally looking surprised at how unpredictable fate was. He had been having thoughts of Jovy all through the week and here she was having a time out with another man that is more like his brother.
Logan remembered getting her number the day he had dropped her off but the intention was to lead her on and not call her. Immediately she left the car, he had done what he thought was best for him- He deleted the number.
But now that her picture was staring at him in the face, Logan knew he only had to do one thing to do-Finding Jovy.
“It’s her, right?” Kyrian asked again. “Say something, Logan!” He was pissed at how silent his friend had gone since he looked at the picture.
Logan got himself back to order as he stared with glazed eyes at his Beta. “Yes. She is the one.” He replied in a bass tone.
Kyrian tapped on the table. “Fuck!”
Arlo looked more perplexed. He was tired of these men tossing him back and forth between them. “Would one of you say something already?”
“How did you get to know her? Where does she school?” Logan said his full sentences after what seems like a long while.
“Through a friend. She attends Finlay High School. Why are you asking me about her?” Arlo replied.
“Any other places you meet with her aside school?” Logan pressed on.
“She works part-time at Old Joe’s diner after school. Why are you asking all of these questions? Are you going to find her to know if she’s good for me? Really?! Goddamnit!”
“Relax Arlo…that’s not the reason.” Kyrian said.
“Then what? Come on, talk to me.” He looked at Kyrian then back at Logan. “Is it a secret? Am I-”
“Please tell him, Logan.” Kyrian cut in.
Logan gave him a stern look cause he expected that his Beta should know better. Kyrian knows Logan doesn’t share his personal business with just anyone and he doesn’t feel obligated to telling anyone what they intend to know just because they want to know about it.
Kyrian groaned in frustration after getting the silent message Logan had passed. He looked towards Arlo and felt sorry for the young man who seem like he might lose his cool in a second. His wolf was acting restless as he could feel Arlo’s wolf fighting hard against him at taking control over him. He wouldn’t dare act out in the presence of the Alpha. If they weren’t in a tight corner at the moment, Kyrian would have expressed how proud he was of his nephew’s self control. Arlo was indeed doing a good job at taming his wild wolf.
Kyrian took in a deep breathe as he stared into Arlo’s eyes. “Your uncle has had a thing with this girl and when I mean a thing they were together about two weeks ago if I am correct.”
Arlo’s head snapped towards Logan. “Two weeks ago? Wait…wait a second…” He paused trying to think of every possibility of Logan meeting Jovy. “You met her at the party.”
“Yes. But why do you sound certain that I met her at a party?” Logan threw back at him.
“Because she isn’t the type to go out much.” Arlo released the breathe he didn’t realize he had been holding until now.
“So you understand what this means right?” Kyrian asked in a low tone.
Arlo raised his voice. “I don’t give a damn about whatever has happened between you and Jovy. Whether it happened two weeks ago or yesterday. Jovy is who I want and I will be damned if you think I would chicken out so easily.” He directed his words at Logan. And with that being said, Arlo walked out on both men without fulfilling his promise of footing the bill.
“I apologize on his behalf.” Kyrian mumbled.
“He is just being childish. It’s fine.” Logan replied.
“Damn it! I can’t believe he left the bills for one of us again.” Kyrian sighed. He was trying to lighten the mood but the look on Logan’s face had him changing his words. “Don’t worry, he would get over it.”
“I don’t care if he doesn’t. Arlo can’t be with her!” Logan growled inwardly as he returned back to eating his food.
Kyrian scoffed. “That’s a joke right?”
His forehead creased in anger. “Jokes are the only thing I do not make.” Logan dropped his fork to make an emphasis.
Kyrian threw his hands out in frustration. “Come on man! This girl in question is a year younger than Arlo and you are so many years older than her. Why won’t you let this be?”
“I can’t have Arlo fuck with the woman I have fucked with. And that’s it!”
Kyrian watched him with a confused glare. “You have got to be kidding me.” He shook his head slowly. “This is a child you practically nursed, Logan and he is more of a son. Are you going to act so egoistic towards his needs?”
“I can’t! And I won’t let it be. And that’s final. I am the Alpha here and what I say is what will stand!” His mention and reminder of who he is and the title he holds was Kyrian’s undoing to back down.
“As you wish, Alpha Logan.” Kyrian muttered under his breath.
They both stayed quiet with each person lost in the pool of their thoughts.
Logan gritted as he stuck his fork into the already cold steak. He was angry not at Arlo but at himself for being so insistent about a girl he should have forgotten all about. His first form of reply had only been reflex and he had no intention of responding that way. He wanted to give up thinking about the girl he had spent three nights with but his mind in conjunction with his wolf was beginning to do things he would have never thought to do.
Logan was pissed at how much everything was all getting to him. He dropped the cutlery, wiped at his stained lips and stood up. “Pay the bills and send me the receipt. I would refund you.” He said to Kyrian before walking out of the restaurant.
“Perfect! Just perfect! And he walks out on me again.” Kyrian muttered as he chewed roughly on the piece of steak he had popped into his mouth. Deciding to not ruin his dinner by the situation, he beckoned towards the waiter.
“What would you like me to do sir?” The waiter that had been in attendance to them at first had showed up again.
“Can I have some red velvet cake for dessert?” He requested.
“Right away sir.” The waiter replied before sauntering off.
Kyrian waited for just a few minutes, he rubbed his hands in excitement as his order arrived. One of the things he loved about Hilton restaurant was their aptness in response. The cake looked so red and inviting. If it was allowed in the culinary language, it can be said to be sexy.
Kyrian picked up the fork placed next to the plate to dissect it and he lunged into it savoring the flavor. After three bites in the red velvet cake, he decided to let his brain rummage through the happening of the night.
As much as Kyrian might try to be polite, Logan definitely is a crazy one and he wasn’t scared to tell it to his face. To think that Arlo had never been so keen about someone or anyone in his entire life before should be some sort of wake-up call for Logan to let it go.
Arlo had obviously picked interest in her and judging by the clear picture of her that he had seen, he didn’t get much of her face the first time he had seen her. She is an actual sight to behold and no full blooded being would be able to resist her charm.
“He did resist it though.” Kyrian muttered to himself amidst another bite of the cake.
It was clear a silent feud would brew between Arlo and Logan and if it must be squashed he had to do something to stop it as fast as he can. He concluded.
Kyrian stared longingly at the now empty plate after he finished up the rest of the red velvet cake. Kyrian wished he didn’t have to respond to some adult relating matters and he could just fulfill his inner child’s needs by ordering more red velvet cakes till he has had his fill.
“Such a killjoy!” Kyrian groaned as he reluctantly pulled his attention away from getting another cake.
He beckoned towards the waiter, paid his bills and headed towards the exit. He had to talk to Arlo tonight.
