Alexa’s Point Of View
I sat on my bed, the letter still in my hands as I tried to process what I just read.
“It’s impossible.” I said in disbelief as my hands shook in shock. I can’t believe that after all these years, he is alive. I know all these years I wished he was alive but now that I’ve seen proof, I just can’t believe it.
I turned the paper backwards to see if anything was written there but there wasn’t any. I let down the paper and stood up.
“If he has been alive all these while, why is he contacting me now? Why now and not two or three years ago when I was searching for him?” I wondered aloud as I paced to and fro. Hearing a knock on my door, I quickly put the letter in the envelope and hid it under my pillow.
“Who is it?” I asked as I quickly sat down.
“Your highness,”
I recognized the voice to be Alice’s. I cleared my throat and said, “come in.”
She entered and I flashed her the most natural smile I could fake. “To what do I owe this visit?”
She did not reply me. She simply walked in like she owned the place and sat down on one of the couches. “So this is your room?”
“I’d like you to get to the point, Alice. What are you doing here?” I demanded and she shrugged. “Nothing much,” she replied as she picked up the cup of tea on the table.
“It’s still warm, did you just make it?” She asked and I rolled my eyes. She took a sip and kissed her teeth.
“Refreshing.” She turned to me and smirked. “I see you’re hard to get rid of.”
I raised a brow. “what the hell is that supposed to mean?”
“Meeting you for the first time, I thought it would be easy to get rid of you just by crushing your spirit but I guess that is not the way.”
“So you admit you’ve been trying to get rid of me?”
She nodded. “I’m a very honest person, ya know? I thought taking Akira’s gaze away from you would be easy but he’s provide way too stubborn. I mean… why would a lowly wolfless woman mean so much to him?”
“Aww, you must be so frustrated.” I said in sarcasm. “but what can I do? You’re just such a loser who don’t know when to stop. I’ve you not been embarrassed enough?”
She smiled lopsidedly. “Why would I stop? I’d be doing the pack a whole lot by getting rid of you. You’re not capable of leading by Akira’s side.”
“And you are?” I taunted and she chuckled.
“I don’t know but I’m sure you must have heard the people’s opinions.”
I hummed. “of course, I’ve heard. I’ve heard enough that my ears are beginning to hurt. But you see…” I said as I stood up. I went to her and sat opposite her. “No matter how much they murmur, I am not leaving here. If you ask me, you are the one at the brink of leaving. One more misbehavior from you and Akira snaps.”
“What if I get rid of you before then?” She challenged.
“That’s impossible.”
She snorted and glanced at my bed. “Is it?”
I stared at her in confusion. Honestly, I fretted for a second. She looked so sure. Like she had a plan.
“It was nice chatting with you though.” She said as she stood up. “You have a nice room.” She said before exiting. What the hell was that? I shook of her face from my thoughts and rushed to the bed. I brought out the letter and looked at it once more.
“Lyell, how are you doing? Have you been eating well? How is your shrimp…”
Allergy?
Now that I think about it, Lyell too is allergic to shrimps. Why didn’t I remember sooner? Funnily enough, how I got to know about Akira s allergy is similar to how I got to know Lyell’s. Back then, I offered Lyell a piece of shrimp and he took it to avoid hurting my feelings, just like Akira.
Is this really just a crazy coincidence? I guess it’s no unusual thing. Lyell is not the only guy allergic to shrimp. I wonder how he looks like now. I bet he’s very tall and ten times stronger. He was really strong as a kid so I wonder how strong he would have gotten.
I sat in front of my dressing mirror and took out a plain paper. I took a pen and set to reply to the letter.
“Hi, Lyell. How did you…
Aish! That sounds weird. I squeezed the paper and threw it on the trash can. I took a new plain paper and began to write again. “Is it really you, Lyell? I’ve always wished that you would be alive but I didn’t think the day would come when you would write to me….
Gosh, why does this look awkward? I squeezed up the paper again and threw it away. I took anew plain sheet and pondered on how to begin.
“Gosh, this is hard.” I mumbled to myself as I dropped the pen. I rested my head on the table and thought deeply. What should I ask him first? Should I ask him how he is or why he took so long to let me know he is alive? I brought my head back up and picked up my pen. I set it on the paper and began to write.
“It’s been so long, Lyell. Why did you take so long to let me know you were alive. I lived everyday with a broken heart, thinking you were gone forever. A part of me desperately wished you were alive but I didn’t know the day would come where you’d write to me. How are you? It must have been hard growing up all alone, right? I’m sorry I couldn’t be there. It wasn’t easy for me too, you know? Where are you? I want to see you. Let me know if you’re doing fine. Love, Alexa.”
I let down my pen and studied the letter. Yes, this is it. I enveloped it and hid it in the sleeve of my gown. I took my cloak and exited my room and took the stairs to the ground floor. I looked around cautiously before putting on my cloak. I can’t afford anyone seeing me. I sneaked out of the palace and went to the pack post office.
“Good evening, ma’am.” The postman greeted and I nodded. He bent to get a good look at my face but I hid it with my cloak. I pushed the letter to him and he picked it up.
He laid out his palm. “Payment.”
I paid him and he smiled. “Nice doing business.” I left the post office and went back to the palace. I climbed up the stairs stealthily to my room.
“Thank goodness.” I let out a sigh but my relief didn’t last long as I met Akira right in front of my door.
“And where are you coming from?” He demanded and I gulped. Think of a lie, Alexa, think!
