The weather was growing dark, but Zane didn’t notice it because he was concentrating on Ava who was laid down on the bed beside him. He wanted to get closer to her and inhale the air she was expelling out of her nostrils, but he abandoned the thought. Ava was sleeping peacefully and he didn’t want to scare her away.
Zane stood up from the chair and grabbed his phone from the table. It was already night and he wanted to know if Andras had killed Philip just like they had agreed so he dialed the number and waited. Just as he expected, the call was answered and he heard Andras’ voice;
“Did you get him?” Zane asked, while peering at Ava.
“You didn’t tell me that he had such power,” Andras said over the phone.
On hearing that, Zane sighed frustratedly and turned his eyes away from Ava; “I forgot.”
“I will get him, but also know that he is coming for the girl.” Andras hung up immediately, after installing some kind of fear into Zane’s heart.
Zane could not deny that he was powerless against Philip, when it came to fights. He had lost to Philip once and that one time was enough to make him know what the mutant was capable of. In order to redirect the plot in the way that would favor him, he decided that it was time to use Ava against Philip.
Just as he tucked the phone into his pocket, he heard Ava’s voice from behind and he turned to look at her with a spurious facial expression. Afterall, she was to be killed but his father wouldn’t mind if she was used as a little pawn in a bigger game.
************
“W-what did you do to P-philip?” Ava asked, holding her knees close to her chest.
“He is still alive,” Zane said, tucking his hands into his pocket, “I never planned to do anything to him. After All, he isn’t my enemy.”
“W-what do you want from me?” The weariness in her voice weighed him down but he managed to contain it.
“Everything that you have to give,” he turned to her, “Where do you think Philip went?”
“I don’t know.”
“Because he didn’t tell you that he was going to his girlfriend’s house,” he could see the emotion on her face, as if she was recalling something.
“I-I don’t care about his p-personal life,” she said.
“Who do you think saved you from the fire, when your guardian was busy playing around with his beloved girlfriend?”
“L-leave me alone,” she slowly focused her hazel eyes on him. He could feel the rage rising on the inside of her and he wanted it to burst her open.
“I am aware that you don’t like me but, do you really trust him because your father said so?” His words seemed to aggravate her the more and she slowly climbed out of the bed and marched towards him.
“You killed him! ” she snapped. At first, he thought it was another person speaking through her but the dream eluded his mind and he smiled.
“That was my grandfather’s order,” his smile dried up fast. “But I exempted you.”
“And you tried to rape me! ” her clear voice resounded in his ears.
“I had to tell my grandfather that I did something to you,” before he could continue his defense, he saw Ava’s hands move like lightning toward his face. He didn’t know that she was holding a knife, until he stopped her from touching his face. “Do you think that I would have killed someone that I admired?”
Zane noticed that the question slowly dissolved the anger she felt slowly and with that break in the wall, he took the knife from her hands and tossed it aside. He placed his hands under her chin and his thumb rubbed her lower lips. A blue skeletal like him wasn’t the type to fall in love easily because of the responsibilities he carried as a first son and a right hand man to his grandfather but Ava captured his heart at that party where they first met and since then, it had been difficult for him to forget her.
Now, they were together in an atmosphere that he regarded as peaceful and he didn’t want to miss the opportunity to get what he had always wanted from her. Seeing that he was still captured in the moment, he took that chance and kissed her so deeply that he could feel her teeth. She responded to the kiss without fighting and she didn’t object when he carried her to the bed. It was like she was waiting for the day when some guy would tell her about their feelings and feel her body but then, he didn’t care. All he wanted was her and even if Philip succeeded in stealing her away from him, he would fight to death in order to get her back.
