Ava sat down on the clean sofa with her phone in her hands. It was night already and she wanted to take a look at some updates on her favorite social media celebrity. She had always adored the young lady and for obvious reasons, wanted to become like the lady. She settled down on her chair and began to scroll through the social page of the celebrity. Some minutes later, she became thirsty and got up to get some water from the refrigerator. Just as she was about to approach the fridge, there was a loud knock on the door. The knock got her scared because it was just some minutes to midnight and some guards who were always at the door, never knocked. Instead, they called her father.
The knocks were so loud that her father woke up and came out of the room, with a sense of urgency.
“Get into your room and lock the door now!” He ordered. That was when she knew that something was definitely wrong and fear overcame her but she obeyed her father and ran to her room.
When she got into her room, she locked the door and pushed a table forward near the door, so that it could add extra security and prevent the attackers from entering her room. Ava thought of what to do and finally, she remembered that Philip had given her his card the other day. With all aggressiveness, she rushed to her drawer and began to throw things away in search of the card. Unfortunately, she couldn’t find it.
She thought hard again about where she could have kept it. Maybe in her wardrobe, or inside the clothes she wore that day. With those ideas coming into her head, she jumped to action knowing that there was no time to lose. While she was searching for the card in her wardrobe, she stopped immediately after hearing a man screaming at her father. Tears poured out of her eyes, in pity for her father. With that, she moved near the door and crouched low so as to hear their conversations.
“You betrayed my grandfather and now you are running away like a coward,” the man said in a fit of anger and then, she heard a loud slap. It was clear that the slap was received by her father.
“I am not the person who stole the Benitoite!” her father spat out fearlessly. There was silence for a while and the man spoke.
“You know, David. You have a way with words. But that won’t be enough to save you now? Will it?”
“You are still the same deadly bastard that I knew. So I know very well that my words won’t save me,”
“He gave you many opportunities to prove yourself innocent.”
“And I did prove myself innocent! But your grandfather was too blinded by anger to realize the truth!” After her father had said that, the house was quiet for a while.
“Who stole that Gem, David?” The man asked, breaking the silence.
“Lawrence!” Her father replied firmly. Just as she wanted to adjust her body in the crouching position, she heard something fall down from her wardrobe. When she looked, it was a jar where she normally kept her mother’s jewelry.
She rushed to the place where it broke and began to pick up the jewelry. It wasn’t long that she heard the man telling someone else to search every room until they found her as he was convinced that she was somewhere hiding. Ava packed the jewelry and kept them inside her pocket, then she resumed her search for the card.
Suddenly, there was a loud bang on the door which sounded as if it was going to bring the whole room down. Ava still continued looking for the card even when the men outside were trying to break the door down. When she found it, she quickly dialed the number on the card and called it. Unfortunately, it got forwarded to Philip’s voicemail. Disappointed, she said, “Ph-philip, p-please help us…we are in t-trouble…” Before she could finish talking, the hefty men forcefully opened the door and pushed the table away.
“L-leave me alone!” she screamed fighting them off but they got hold of her and dragged her to the sitting room where the main scary event was happening. She was left on her knees as soon as they were in front of the young blue-eyed man. When she recognised him, her heart sank out of anxiety and her blood pressure seemed to increase at that moment.
“Ava,” Zane said as he crouched in front of her stretched out her hands to touch her sweaty face.
“Don’t touch her, you bastard. It’s me you want, not her,” Her father said, gritting his teeth.
Zane smiled and withdrew his hand, then he stood up. “Get me the sword,” he ordered, calmly. Ava wasn’t sure about what Zane wanted to do but she was very sure that someone was going to die.
“P-please, d-dont hurt my father,” she cried. Her tears proved useless when Zane received the sword from one of the hefty guys, then he approached David.
“I will probably see you in hell, one day.” Zane siped the sword skillfully and withdrew it, only to see David’s head falling to the floor. The spring of red blood from the headless neck, terrified Ava and she screamed so loud that her voice almost got lost.
“You look more beautiful than the night I saw you, Ava,” Zane said as he crouched. The splash of her father’s blood splattered on his face, was already dripping and she turned her face away in fear and tears.. True to his words that night, she didn’t forget his blue eyes.
“P-please leave me a-alone,” she cried but he got closer to her and slowly ran his fingers down her neck, down to her chest. She tried to find her strength amidst the tears in order to push the blue-eyed monster away but all her strength was gone. Her body failed her once again.
Suddenly, he stood up and gripped her hands, then he dragged her through the floor into a room. As quickly as he could, he tore off her blouse from her body and bent over her on the floor. He didn’t listen to her cries as his lips covered hers, making it hard for her to breathe. Not having enough of her, he attempted to pull down her trousers but he stopped for a short while as if he had seen something surprising.
“P-please let me go,” she cried softly. Zane covered her lips with his and started to pull her trousers down slowly, until he heard the door creak open.
“I will not hesitate to kill you, Zane.” Philip said, “If you don’t get off her now.”
Zane slowly withdrew from her and stood up from the floor, then he turned to look at Philip, who was holding a bloodied knife. Ava tried to get up but she couldn’t. She was weak as a leaf. The way Philip stared at Zane, with so much boldness and intrepidity, made Ava realize that they knew each other.
Philip hunkered down and Ava felt his two hands at her back and her legs, as he lifted her up from the ground.
“You are going to regret this, Philip.” Zane said and Philip glanced at him.
“Then try and stop me,” Philip retorted calmly. He said no other word before walking out of the house, carrying Ava like a baby. Having suffered from too much anxiety and stress over the shocking event of her father’s death, she closed her eyes and darkness followed.
