When Emily returned to Hunter’s ward, the man was still motionless on his bed.
“Has the doctor been here?” Emily asked.
Liam nodded, “The doctor said that it was hard to say what is happening to Eldest Young Master Jackson, even from a medical perspective.
“However, the doctor also mentioned that if he could receive enough faith, he might be will to wake up.”
“Faith?” Emily sat on the side of the bed as she looked at Hunter. His face was pale due to excessive blood loss.
“If, as least, you could make him feel like he would have a happy future, he might be awake.”
A happy future… He was Eldest Young Master Jackson and he could have whatever he wanted. Was that not a happy life and future for him?
Emily lowered her gaze to look at him. There was a frown on his face even when he was unconscious. Then, she understood what Liam meant. However, she did not dare to make any promises.
“Miss Emily, I am not forcing you to do anything, but please think about it. Was the past so important that you would rather ignore a future that’s worth looking forward to?”
Liam left the room as he finished the words, so there were only the two of them in the room.
Since they were alone, Emily decided to be herself and relax. She held Hunter’s hands, and her eyes were moist. In fact, she was quite sure which one was more important, the past or the future.
“But I…” she looked down at the large hand that she cradled in hers.
“I am a person that the public had forsaken, and you are the Jackson family’s Eldest Young Master, the hope of the entire Jackson family.”
She bit her lip as she felt sorrow, and her voice even choked.
“Hunter, I understand your intentions, but I can’t be with you. As the wife of a prestigious position like you in the Jackson family, everyone will definitely scrutinize my past utterly and thoroughly.”
“If people know the story of how the Jackson family’s Eldest Young Madam drugged her own cousin and was involved in despicable and immoral acts, the Jackson family’s reputation will be ruined. You understand that, right?”
Emily was shocked when Hunter’s fingers twitched. She stared at his hands.
“Hunter, you can hear me, right?”
Hunter’s fingers moved again. He could hear her!
Emily got excited and held his palms tightly. “Hunter, do you awake?” There was no response.
Emily cradled his palms with both her hands. The doctor said that she had to talk to him and give him faith to live.
Emily never thought the injury was so severe that the man had remained in unconscious. She started to feel upset, and now she even panicked and anxious.
Everything would be fine if he could wake up!
“Hunter, I did not mean to hide from you, but I was too flustered. I did not know if I should forgive you.”
His fingers twitched again, and Emily’s heart soured. He did care about that.
The Eldest Young Master of the Jackson family, such a dignified man, cared so much about a woman like her. A woman with an infamous and notorious reputation. Why?
“I really don’t know what to do!”
She talked to him just to ignite his will to live. However, she did not know what to do as she did not want to lie to him.
Emily leaned against his arm and closed her eyes. She tried her best to hold the tears in her eyes.
Crying was for the weak, but why did her tears come out even she knew it was useless?
Hunter opened his eyes and stared at her soft, long hair.
After a long time of silence, he finally said in a soft voice, “If you don’t know what to do, then give yourself to me. I will tell you what to do, okay?”
Hearing his voice, Emily stunned and raised her head abruptly. The moment she met his deep gaze, she started to cry.
“Doctor!” She shouted at the door. “Doctor, he’s awake. He…”
“I’ve been awake all this while.” Hunter sat up.
Emily hurried to help him, but it seemed like he was stronger than her.
She could not believe it. “You—”
“That’s right. I was awaked a while ago. I’m sorry.” He did not want to lie to her, but he was afraid that she would leave as soon as she found out that he was fine.
It took Emily two seconds to calm down, and then her expression sank. “You lied to me!”
She got up to leave, but Hunter hugged her from behind.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to lie to you. I was afraid… I was afraid you would ignore me.”
“Let me go.”
Emily struggled, but Hunter frowned. “Emily, I have a headache.”
“You’re still lying to me!” Emily turned to face him and angrily said, “Hunter, what are you…”
His frown made her swallow her words. The man could easily melt a woman’s heart. Even though she was reluctant, she finally gave in.
As soon as she saw his frown, strings tugged at her heart, and her heart softened. Hunter did have a headache, but he tried not to garner her pity by the weakness.
He grasped Emily’s hand tightly. “Please give yourself to me, and I will handle everything.”
“No, you can’t. ” He knew how big the pressure was to face the public.
Even if he could buy out all the media to suppress the public’s opinion, her past would be dug out over and over again if she were Eldest Young Madam of the Jackson.
As her children were conceived during that period, the public would even link her children with all of this, which would greatly affect her children’s lives. They would be hurt as well.
“What if I am no longer the Jackson family’s Eldest Young Master? What if I am just an ordinary man?”
Hunter hugged her tightly; he was unwilling to let go of her, not even for a moment.
“Emily, could I not give you enough security at all? Is it because I had hurt you so badly in the past? Would you feel better if I give up everything for you?”
“How would you…give up everything?”
“I can hand over my position as the CEO of Jackson Corporation to Vincent. I can leave Bentson and live the rest of my life with you in another place, where no one knows us.”
That was not a joke. Emily understood him well, and she knew what he would do as he said.
She panicked even more.
“That’s not what I want!”
She tried to push him away with all her strength.
However, Hunter would not let go of her and held her tightly no matter what she said.
“I can go with you and drift around since you are unwilling to face it. We can go anywhere.”
“Hunter, you are out of your mind!” He was the Jackson family’s Eldest Young Master, the CEO of Jackson Corporation. That was an honorable and prestigious position! He must be crazy to say that he would give it all up.
“No, the Hunter was out of his mind two years ago. That was why he did all those things to hurt you. My mind is very clear now.”
As he was clear, he knew what he wanted.
“Emily, I have never pursued much of anything in my life. I was ignorant and self-centered, and I want everything to be in my control. But now, my head is completely clear. I want a family. My own family.”
He never said that before because he did not know how to express it. Now, as he said to her, he was quite nervous. It was the first time he had said something like that and he was afraid that his words would upset her.
Emily lowered her head to stare at the hand holding her. His fingers trembled.
It must have been hard for someone like Hunter to ask forgiveness from another person.
“Emily, please don’t leave me. I would give up everything. I just want my wife and my children. We will stay together and not go back. We can just live a simple life anonymously, okay?”
