“Eldest Brother.” Vincent walked into the room, and Henry followed behind him silently.
Hunter glanced at the two of them before he stared at Henry.
“Don’t look at me like that, I’m as irritated as you are now.”
Henry walked forward and plopped onto the couch. It was apparent that he was exhausted and had no intention to joke around.
“Were those your men in the search party, Second Young Master Sharp?” Liam served tea to the new arrivals.
Henry grunted disapprovingly. “Well, someone did not want to do it, so I have to attend to it. I don’t want that person to hate himself to death if something were to happen to Emily.”
“Based on your relationship with her, there is no need to come up with so many excuses to look for her.”
Hunter was already irritable and upset, and Henry had hit the nail right on the head. It was a miracle that he managed to stay still instead of lashed out at the other man.
Vincent could sense the hostility between the two older men. He knew that he had to say something.
“Eldest Brother, you have misunderstood Henry and Emily.”
He pursed his lips and clenched his fists. “I’m sorry, this was all my fault.”
Vincent thought that his brother could live a better life without Emily by his side. No one would be able to threaten him as he would not have any weakness. However, Vincent did not expect his brother to live so unhappily even though he was safe. He had not seen his brother smile in months. He was even colder and more unapproachable. His brother had also been unwilling to open up to him, and he shielded his heart from everyone else. He had refused to trust any of them. His eldest brother was alive, but he had behaved like a walking dead.
On the surface, Hunter looked aloof and well-off. Only he would know what was in his own mind. Vincent did not want to see his brother live such an unhappy life.
“I’m sorry.”
While they were on the island, Vincent had begged Emily to leave his brother. She had been the reason he was in several dangerous situations. Vincent thought he had no choice but to do that. He did not expect his actions would lead to Emily’s miscarriage and subsequently, cast such a bleak shadow over their lives!
“When she returned to shore, her legs were covered in blood. The doctors could not save the child, and she almost lost her life!”
Henry felt a deep sense of melancholy as he recalled Emily’s despair at that time. His heart felt as if a thousand blades had stabbed it.
“Liam, bring us some liquor.” What was that tea? It tasted so bitter with every sip!
Liam was also a little shocked, but he walked to the wine cabinet and brought him a bottle of red wine. He did not expect Third Young Master Jackson would have anything to do with the matter!
Hunter looked indifferent. It was as if he had no expression on his face at all.
Vincent thought that he would be angry and irritable, or even get physical with him. However, Hunter did nothing.
He stared at the glass of wine in his hand, but he did not taste it.
Henry was not a heavy drinker, but he immediately downed the bottle of red wine. Then, he slumped back against the sofa and laughed as he stared at the ceiling. However, he sounded bleak.
“If I told you that I loved her very much, would you believe me? However, I never laid a finger on her.”
Hunter’s fingers tightened around his glass.
Henry closed his eyes as he thought of that slender figure. She was so helpless, so pitiful, and yet so loveable!
“Did you know how much she loved that child? She was such a kind-hearted girl who could not even hurt a fly. Would she have willingly gotten rid of her baby?
“Hunter, are you stupid or retarded? You said that you loved her very much, so how could you not understand her?
“The child was gone; she was heartbroken. She hated herself for not able to keep the child. At that time, I couldn’t even see any life in her eyes.
“Since that had already happened, and she did not want to drag you into it, I thought I would give her a hand.”
“It was too bad she could not accept me; her heart only has Hunter!”
The glass in Hunter’s hands was crushed into pieces.
“Shut up!”
His voice sounded cold, ruthless, and even cruel!
“Do you think I would believe you?”
“Big Brother…”
“I don’t believe a single word you said!”
He stormed off and kicked the door open with a loud bang. Then he left.
Liam wanted to go after him, but he stopped when Henry said, “Give him some time to think things through.”
“This…”
“He is not some fragile woman, why are you worried about him? Do you not have any confidence in your Eldest Young Master?” Henry roared.
The usually gentle and elegant Second Young Master Sharp was also quite terrifying when angered.
Vincent stared at what was left of the door as a hundred feelings ran through his mind.
Henry went to the liquor cabinet to retrieve another bottle.
“He understood every word of it. He just hates himself.”
Therefore, there was no point if they were to go after him. It would only make him even more irritable.
“Second Young Master Sharp, is there any news from the men you sent?”
Liam had sent some of his men to search for Emily as well, but not as many as Henry’s men.
“No, she is determined to keep herself hidden. It would not be easy to find her.”
Everyone knew that Emily had a computer expert with her, Joe. He also knew that Hunter had gone to Joe and even beaten him half to death.
Emily’s friends were incredibly loyal to her. If Joe were unwilling to tell, he would not divulge anything even if they were to beat him to his death. Joe had exceptional skills to cover one’s tracks. It would not be easy to find Emily.
“Did we contact Joseph?”
“Joseph doesn’t know anything about her whereabouts either. He has even more men out there looking for her.”
Vincent hated himself. Emily had listened to him, and she was in such a despaired situation because of that.
If he could, he would take back all those words he said to Emily. He would not ask that of her. If he had not been so ruthless, they would have had their child by then, and lived happily as a happy family.
What had he done!
“Emily never blamed you.” Henry put down the empty bottle and turned to look at Vincent.
“I don’t know why, but she always felt guilty toward you. It was as if she owed you in her past life.”
“Me?” Vincent shook his head. He and Emily had no contact before that, and he did not believe in past lives.
Henry, however, had started to believe in reincarnation.
Perhaps, some things had already been fated to happen.
“Let your brother feel the pain for a while. It may not necessarily be a bad thing for him.”
The deeper the pain, the more he would cherish it. Hopefully, the experience was like winter that turned to spring.
As the cold left, the flowers of spring would soon blossom.
