It was already late at night, but Emily was still by the old master’s bed. The old master’s consciousness was still blurry, but he seemed to like the girl very much. Whenever Emily was with him, the old master would eat more and take his medications obediently. He would even let the nurses massage him.
“Grandfather, do you feel happy?” Emily softly asked as she rubbed his arms gently; they were the only ones in the wardroom.
The old master did not answer her question, but joy glowed in his eyes. Perhaps, he would live a better life if he did not have to worry about anything else.
“If you feel happy now, then you should continue to be this happy until you are completely healed, okay?”
Emily looked at the old master, and her heart ached for him. She had a lot to say, but she could not voice them out.
A thousand words were finally condensed into one last sentence. “Grandfather, you must take good care of yourself.”
That night, Emily’s room remained lit until it was very late. The light only went off at around five in the morning. The next day, when Sasha went to see her father, she did not see Emily with him.
“Where is Emily?” Sasha looked at Butler Milo.
Butler Milo shook his head. “Miss Emily hasn’t come today. Maybe she is still sleeping.”
“How is that so? She has been here with her grandfather every morning without a miss.” Was she unwell? Sasha was worried that Emily was worn out.
She glanced at the old master who was still asleep. “I’ll go and see her. I hope that she is not too tired.”
After she left the old man’s ward room, Sasha made her way to the next room and knocked on Emily’s door.
“Emily, it’s me, Youngest Aunt. Are you still asleep?”
There was no movement from inside the room. Sasha frowned and knocked on the door again. “Emily? It’s me, are you up? I’m coming in.”
The room was quiet; Emily did not reply at all. Sasha felt uneasy, so she pushed the door open. Fortunately, the door was not locked. When she entered the room, she noticed that the bed looked tidy as if no one had slept on it the night before. Emily was not in the room. The bathroom door was opened, but she was not in there as well. Had something happened?
“Emily?” Sasha’s eyes scanned the entire room, but there was no trace of Emily/
She was about to ask the nurse on duty when she saw the letter on the table. A letter? Who would use such a traditional method for communication?
Sasha picked it up and saw that it was addressed to Joseph. She sighed; just when she thought the youngsters were a sophisticated bunch who relied on their gadgets for most things, it seemed like they had gotten back to handwritten letters.
Sasha was curious, and she almost opened the letter. However, she stopped and thought it was not polite to probe into their affairs, so she put it down. As soon as she went out, she saw the nurse rushed past her.
“Second Madam Gale, they need you in the room; something’s not right with your father.”
Old Master Gale had been emotional the entire day. His two daughters and two grandsons had rushed to the hospital to stay with him. After he fussed for nearly two hours, he finally calmed at around ten in the morning.
“Doctor, what’s going on with my grandfather?” Joseph wiped the sweat off his head.
He had never seen the old master so restless and emotional before, so he was not sure what made him behave like that.
Suddenly, Joseph noticed that something was amiss. His thick eyebrows furrowed as he looked around. “Where’s Emily?”
The old master did not feel well, and yet Emily did not make an appearance? What had happened? They had been so busy, so Joseph did not notice it until then. He had not seen Emily for almost two hours.
Sasha immediately said, “Emily disappeared early in the morning. When I went to look for her, I noticed that she had not slept in her bed; it was still neat and tidy.”
She thought about it for a while and felt a little uneasy. “Also, she left you a letter.”
“Letter?” Joseph’s heart sank; he immediately felt anxious when he heard that. “What do you mean? Where is the letter?”
“In the next room.”
Sasha did not think that anything was wrong; she thought it was something the kids did those days. Emily loved her grandfather, how could she not appear when he was ill?
Joseph immediately rushed to the next room. Emily was not there, but he noticed the letter on the table. He made his way toward it, and his fingers trembled as he took the note in his hand. He had a terrible feeling that something bad had happened.
He opened the envelope; there was a piece of paper in it. It was a letter with Emily’s handwriting, and it had a simple message in it.
Emily wrote that she was tired, and she wanted to rest in a quiet place for some time. She reassured Joseph that she had a reliable friend who would keep her safe. She also asked Joseph to take good care of their grandfather and not let him browse news on the Internet so that he could recuperate well. The letter was also a way for her to prove the authenticity of the email that she had sent him.
Joseph immediately logged onto his email on his phone. It seemed like he had received a new email from Emily about an hour ago. He was busy with his grandfather, so he had not noticed it.
It was a lengthy email, and it was mostly about what Wendy had done and how she stole Emily’s identity as Old Madam JacksonJackson’s granddaughter. She also told Joseph to press charges against Wendy for identity fraud; she did not care if her own identity was also exposed.
“Joseph, what does Emily mean?” Lottie did not read the email, but she had a funny feeling that she had correctly guessed what Emily meant to say.
Joseph tightened his grip on the phone, and his breathing labored. “That girl… That girl might…”
Suddenly, his phone rang, and he immediately picked up the call.
It was his assistant. “Eldest Young Master! What’s going on? Miss Emily recorded a video, and it had gone viral on the Internet.”
“What video?” Joseph had been busy with his grandfather, so he did not pay any attention to the Internet.
The assistant took a deep breath before he explained, “In the clip, Miss Emily said that she is the Gale family’s granddaughter. She claimed that Wendy stole her identity! She also said that Wendy cheated Old Master Gale out of his shares and that the Gale family will press charges against her!”
