Chapter 296 It Was Normal to be Tired

” Hunter.” Finally, Wendy spotted him out of the room. She could not let go of such a golden opportunity.
” Hunter, as you have seen just now, that woman is just too presumptuous, and Liam kept helping her.” Wendy walked up to him and looked at his side profile.
The lights on the balcony were not turned on. It was dark, and she could only see some of his facial features. Even then, his grace, charms, and indifferent aura were enough to captivate her. He had seemed even more distant than before, but his aura had become less oppressive and quieter. That was right; he had been more silent of late.
” Hunter, are you tired? Why don’t you come back to the room and I’ll give you a good massage? I have learned acupuncture points before, and I’m sure you’d feel more comfortable and relaxed.”
He had just taken over Jackson Corporation. Many issues needed his attention, so it was normal for him to be more tired than usual. Wendy would try her best to relieve some of his stress if he were to go back to the room with her. If only he were used to her coddle, he might not be able to live without her. Wendy walked to him and reached out to touch him, but her hand stopped mid-way as she was scared to touch him.
She softened her voice and whispered, ” Hunter, let’s go back to the room.”
“Okay.” Hunter turned and walked into the room.
Wendy was overjoyed. She never thought he would agree to her request so readily! A man and a woman alone in the room at night! How could she not have noticed that obvious hint! Wendy was excited as she trailed behind Hunter. Her fingers shook with excitement when that slender figure walked into the room. Just as she was about to enter the threshold, the door slammed shut in her face.
What did that mean? She had not entered the room yet! Did Eldest Young Master Jackson close the door by mistake? Wendy was about to push the door open, but Liam’s hand fell onto the handle and stopped her in time.
“Miss Gale, Eldest Young Master has to work tonight. He has a few video conferences, so please do not disturb him.”
“I… He… He said to go back to the room…” Wendy was stunned; she had a puzzled look on her face.
“Of course, he has to return to the room to deal with his work.” Liam smiled ironically. “Did you think he would work on the balcony?”
“You… He said he’d go back into the room with me!” Wendy almost cried. Why must Liam always kill her joy?
“Sorry, Eldest Young Master has never said that he would go into the room with you. You must be mistaken.”
“You!” Had Wendy continued to talk to the bastard, she would inevitably blow up in anger!
Liam was Emily’s pet dog. He was there to help Emily in every way he could to go against Wendy! She finally came to her senses and acknowledged that Hunter had not allowed her to stay with him. Otherwise, he would not have slammed the door shut in her face. She felt wronged and terrible, but she had to bottle up her feelings.
Eventually, she returned to her room and slammed the door shut. Did Eldest Young Master intend to fool her? She could not accept that! Nonetheless, she knew she would not be able to stay angry at him. If he beckoned at her with his little finger, she would jump at the chance to stay by his side. He was too charming, and she was not one to resist him.
As she closed the door to her room and sat down on the bed, her phone rang. It was that familiar unknown number again. She seemed to have gotten used to that.
She picked up the phone and mumbled, “It’s me. You can speak now.”
The other party immediately said, “Find a way to see if Hunter is home.”
“What do you mean?” Wendy frowned.
“I want you to check if Eldest Young Master Jackson is in WongRiver Pavilion now. I want you to see him with your own eyes.”
“Are you nuts? I just spoke to him!”
Wendy was in a bad mood, so her tone was extremely harsh.
The other party replied unpleasantly, “You should watch your attitude, Wendy.”
Wendy took a deep breath and rolled her eyes before she continued with a wave of undisguised anger in her tone.
“What the hell do you mean?”
“Did you say you talked Hunter just now?” The other party sounded doubtful.
Wendy was patient with her answer. “Yes, I talked to Eldest Young Master Jackson just now. We had a long chat… Okay, fine, just a few words, and he is back at work now.”
“Are you sure that was Hunter?”
However, that seemed to diminish Wendy’s patience immediately. “I was standing right next to him. Could I have mistaken him as the wrong person?”
How crazy! Had she been speaking to a ghost if that were not Eldest Young Master Jackson?
The other party was silent for a moment before they said, “Fine. Pay more attention to Hunter’s movements these next few days. If you find anything fishy with him, report to me immediately.”
“Fine.” Wendy hung up the phone with impatience.
If they did not have evidence of her mistake, she would not have bothered with their arrangements or instructions. She did not know who was the mastermind behind those instructions as she had only been contacted by insignificant characters. She did not want to be involved with those people. What would happen if Mu Zhanbe knew she was a spy, sent to report on his movements? He might chase her away from the WongRiver Pavilion, or worse, have her killed. However, if she refused to help those people, they would expose her lies to Hunter.
Wendy leaned back on the bed in a dilemma. Was there a way for her to stay away from those people, and at the same time, keep her secrets from Eldest Young Master Jackson?

After Emily got into the car, she kept her hands on her stomach and curled up in the seat. She was slender enough that her entire body fit in the car seat. She looked like a kitten furball.
“There’s something wrong with you. What’s going on with your stomach? Should we go to the hospital?”
Henry had observed her for a long time. It was scary to see her face so pale.
“There’s no need.” Emily frowned, her hand was still on her stomach.
“It may… may be coming.”
“What’s coming?” Henry could not understand her. He was totally puzzled. “Where would you want to go in such a state?”
Emily felt like she wanted to roll her eyes at him. How troublesome was it to communicate with a straight man?
“My aunt is coming.”
“When is she coming? Do I need to send someone to pick her up?”
A few moments later, realization dawned upon him, and his fingertips shook! He almost lost control of the steering wheel!
“What’s going on? Do you know how to drive!” Emily was startled.
Her stomach was already in a lot of pain, and the shaking exacerbated the strain. She almost let out a yelp. Henry felt an embarrassed flush at the tips of his ears. He immediately recovered his senses and steadied the vehicle.
“I thought…”
“You thought that my relative was coming, and you wanted to send someone to pick her up, right?”
Emily glared at him indignantly. If she were not distracted by the sharp pain in her stomach, she would definitely make fun of him. How could he be so funny? What a joker! However, the ridiculousness of the situation helped to relieve her depressed mood.
She sighed and said plainly, “Just take me home so that I can rest. It’s just a common malady that ails women.”
