Emily paled as she sat on the ground with her hands on her stomach. The dull pain was from her lower abdomen. However, it was not as bad as the pain she felt in her heart.
Wendy smiled triumphantly and looked at Emily from her position on the stairs. “I hope you heard that. Hunter said he doesn’t want to see you again.”
Her foul mood was finally lifted. She was so pleased! Eldest Young Master Jackson did not see her because he was too busy and had no time to interact with her. The same could not be said for her sister. It was obvious that Hunter hated her and did not want to see her again. It was a significant difference!
Liam stooped and reached out to Emily. “Miss Emily, how are you?”
She looked pale. How could one get so pale? She had only been discharged from the hospital, right?
“Liam, your eldest young master ordered this woman to leave. What are you doing?”
Wendy folded her arms in front of her chest and squinted at the two of them.
“What injury could she possibly have? She is just exceptionally good at acting. It’s not as if a tumble down from the stairs would kill her.”
Wendy was accustomed to such pretense. She had also seen it countless times with her own eyes. Damn it!
On the other hand, Liam was perturbed. He could see that something was not right with Emily. He crouched to help her up. “Miss Emily…”
“I’m fine.” Emily wanted to stand up, but the pain in her lower abdomen struck her hard as she tried to get up. The sharp pain tore through her heart, and she had to sit back down. She took a deep breath and wondered why her stomach would ache so badly.
“Miss Emily, I don’t think you are alright. Let me get Peter to take a look at you.”
Liam was shocked to see her small face had gotten even paler.
Wendy almost went berserk again. “Liam, don’t you have anything better to do?”
Hunter said that he wanted the woman gone, and yet Liam still bothered with her.
“Don’t tell me that you have feelings for this woman…”
“Shut up!” Liam raised his head sharply, and his cold eyes settled on the woman up the stairs.
Wendy took a step back as she was startled by his attitude. She almost lost her footing too. Fortunately, she had time to steady herself with a tight grip on the railing. Her blood boiled as she stood up straight again.
“Liam, you’ve crossed the line! You are helping an outsider…”
“Miss Gale, if I remember correctly, you are also only an outsider who lives here!” l
Liam suppressed his anger and stared at her with his cold eyes. “You can slander me all you want, but you must not defame her! If you dare to say another disrespectful thing about her, don’t blame me for my next actions!”
“Liam! You’re crazy! What are you doing? Hunter won’t let you off so easily!”
However, Wendy dared not mention their supposed relationship again. She was not a timid person, but she knew about the lines that one must not cross with men. She had never liked Liam, but he was Eldest Young Master Jackson’s right-hand man. Even Ewan could not measure up to Liam’s position.
Liam had never minded it when Wendy scolded him. It was the first time that he had reacted so harshly toward her. It seemed like that b*tch was his bottom line. Who would believe him if he said that there was nothing between them? Wendy was not convinced.
“Miss Emily, Eldest Young Master has been extremely busy recently. It is not convenient for him to see you at the moment. I shall see you out.”
Emily tried to stand, but she could not do it. Even with Liam’s help, she could only manage it slowly. Liam tried to be polite, but Eldest Young Master Jackson had made his message loud and clear. He would not see her even if she stayed there. Waves of pain tormented her lower abdomen as she stood up.
Emily took a deep breath and tried her best to stand on her own. She gently pushed Liam hands away. “I can manage.”
“I think I should get Peter to come and take a look at you.” Liam was worried to see her leave like that.
“I’m okay. I don’t need it.” Peter was Eldest Young Master Jackson’s people. How could she enjoy the privilege of using people at his service?
If it were not to investigate the old madam’s murder, she would never have gone back to the mansion. Who would want to be rejected time and time again? Nevertheless, she had to find the truth about the old madam’s death!
She bent her waist in an attempt to control the pain she felt in her knees. Then she shuffled toward the entrance step by step. Wendy trailed behind her to make sure that she would leave. Liam followed her as well; he was worried that her body might not be able to take the pain.
She did not take a tumble from high up the stairs. It should not have posed a problem for her at all. However, Liam did not like how she looked after the fall. Could she have bumped into anything? It seemed like she had a problem with her stomach.
Emily managed to walk out of the hall. However, she did not expect to see Henry there. She did not want him to worry, so she bit her lip and straightened her back. Unfortunately, every step she took was like torture to her abdomen. Sweat beaded on her forehead as her body took in the unbearable pain; her face got even paler.
“What’s going on?” Henry knew that something must have gone terribly wrong when he saw her. He rushed forward to meet her halfway.
Manson also hurried toward her. He raised his hands to wipe the sweat off her forehead. Emily dodged his limbs and hid her face in Henry’s arms.
“Second Young Master Jackson, my friend is here to pick me up. Thank you for your hospitality tonight. I’ll see you again next time.”
She had made it clear that he was no longer needed that night. Manson despaired, but he nodded and continued to watch over her as she left with Henry.
“I don’t feel very well.” After only two steps, she suddenly stopped and pulled Henry’s sleeve.
Without another word, Henry carried her in his arms. She posed no resistance for him at all, and she even buried her head in his arms. Her stomach hurt; it was in inexplicable pain. Her knee also hurt terribly, but her heart broke even more.
Henry was there for him; he was like the buoy that came to her rescue as she fluttered in the vast big ocean. She was exhausted, and she was in extreme pain. At least, she felt safe in his arms.
Manson looked at their backs and felt a great disappointment like he had lost a battle. If she had been with Eldest Young Master Jackson, then she would never be with Henry. It was a significant threshold for one to cross.
He had never seen Emily relied on someone so much before that. Even when she was with Hunter, Emily had always resisted him. It seemed like things were completely different with Henry; she trusted him. It was only too bad that Manson could never be the rock that she could lean on. When the car drove away, Manson stood under the lights and watched them disappear into the darkness.
Another guy on the second floor kept his gaze on the vehicle too. He stood in the balcony; his tall figure made a long shadow under the moonlight—lonely, cold, alienated, and indifferent—the usual aura that he emitted.
“They’re gone.” Liam came up behind him and whispered, “She said that she needed to speak to Eldest Young Master about something important.”
The man did not make any sound. He continued to stare at the gate to the WongRiver Pavilion’s courtyard until he could no longer see the shadow of the car.
Then, he averted his eyes and turned to look at Liam. “Arrange for it.”
Liam’s eyes lit up as he immediately answered, “Alright.”
