Emily never thought that Wendy, who was usually prim and proper, would ask such a filthy question. Even though Emily knew that Wendy was a hypocrite, she was also a prude. Why would she ask such embarrassing questions? They sounded so disgusting.
“Well? Don’t you want to tell me? Otherwise, you won’t know the real reason your mom left our Gale family.”
Wendy knew that Emily was not a flight risk. She could tell that the girl had taken the bait.
Emily took a deep breath, closed her eyes in contempt before she answered blankly. “Yes, we’ve done it before; more than once. He had amazing stamina and almost killed me.”
“Shameless!” Wendy’s face sank immediately. She was so annoyed that she wanted to pick up the cup and throw the water onto Emily’s face.
“Second Young Miss Gale, are you not the shameless one for asking me these questions?”
Emily still looked at her with a blank expression. After she suppressed the shyness in her, she could better control her emotions. Wendy’s provocation could no longer provoke her.
“I have answered your questions. Why did my mother leave the Gale family? Can you tell me now?”
“So, Charles did not tell you?”
Wendy had already calmed down when the waiter brought their steaks to them. She had wanted to humiliate the girl, but Emily had managed to trigger her rage with only a few sentences. After the waiter left their table, Wendy played with the ring on her finger as she smirked at Emily.
“My mother was the one who drove her away.”
Wendy was not only unapologetic, but she also wore a devilish smile, as if she was the winner in that conversation.
Emily remained silent. Even if she had almost made a hole in her palm with her nails, she acted indifferently.
“Really?” Emily smiled and looked down to cut her steak. “So, why did you invite me to lunch today?”
“Aren’t you upset? My mother forced your mother to leave you. Don’t you feel bad about her difficult life out there?”
“Would you prefer it if I was in distress?”
Since they had ordered the food, Emily might as well eat it. Besides, it was great that she could save up on a meal. She knew that Wendy asked her out because she wanted to humiliate her. She was surprised that her sister had not seen through her yet.
“Well, if you don’t want to talk about your mother, then, let’s change the subject.”
Wendy suddenly reached out and passed the mushroom sauce to Emily.
“The mushroom sauce here is very famous. It tastes so good; you should try it.”
Before Emily could say anything, Wendy had poured the mushroom sauce onto Emily’s steak. As she put the container down, she suddenly waved her hand. She acted as if it was an accident and pressed down hard on the back of Emily’s hand. Emily grimaced as she immediately withdrew her hand.
“Sorry, I was a little dizzy,” Wendy murmured.
Wendy could feel the resentment and tension that radiated from Emily. That bloody girl had refused to let Wendy get close to her. She had managed to dodge her! Wendy assumed that it would be effortless to take a blood sample from Emily. She thought that she could just talk to her and distract her. Then she would pretend to accidentally touch and pierce her with the fine needle on her ring. To her surprise, she did not even get a chance to get close to Emily at all. She did not want to arouse any suspicion, so she started to eat her steak and made small talk with Emily.
“I heard that our eldest sister would wrap up her project overseas and come back early,” she said.
Emily froze for a moment. The eldest sister that she remembered from her past life had always been indifferent to her. She knew that it was not her sister’s fault. Wendy had framed her in front of her eldest sister, and she even smeared her sister’s name in front of Charles.
Her eldest sister was not Kate’s daughter, so she and Wendy had always targeted her too. As for Emily, she used to be her accomplice in her past life. Emily remembered that her eldest sister had been kind to her then. However, she was blinded by Wendy’s lies and could not distinguish right from wrong. That was why Eldest Young Miss Gale had alienated Emily later on in their lives.
Wendy continued to say, “You’ve never gotten along with our older sister. When she comes back this time, try not to make her angry again.”
“Eldest Sister and I will get along well without your provocation.”
Emily ate her steak quietly as if she was not interested in any topic that Wendy had brought up. She only wanted to finish her food quickly so that she could leave. If she did not have to get Emily’s blood sample, Wendy would have left immediately too.
“Anyway, when Eldest Sister comes back, you should try to get along with her.”
Wendy could not find a topic that could divert Emily’s attention. That bloody girl was not interested in anything!
“I’ll go and get some drinks.” Wendy stood up.
Emily felt that something was amiss. Why did she have to go to the bar to get a drink? Wendy would usually just order from the waiter. Why would she go to the bar on her own? That was impossible. What was she plotting?
Emily was surprised when Wendy almost dropped onto her when she passed by her seat. She seemed to have sprained her ankle. However, as she was already on high alert, Emily managed to evade her sister and jumped up from the other side of her chair.
As she glared at Wendy, who had fallen onto her chair, Emily scoffed sternly, “Wendy, what the hell are you doing?”
What did the sneaky woman try to do in public? It was as if she had become so much more daring and bolder!
“Deceitful!” As she spat that word, Emily walked out of the door without a single backward glance.
“Emily, wait!” Wendy got anxious and immediately chased after her.
The waiter hurried toward her table and stopped her. “Miss, you… you haven’t paid for the food yet.”
“Do I look like I can’t afford it?”
That was the first time that a waiter had stopped Wendy. Were they afraid that she would dine and dash? After she threw a couple of notes at the waiter, Wendy tore out the door. However, the street was crowded, and so she had lost sight of Emily.
Damn it! Did she not think that it would be easy to get Emily’s blood sample? How could she fail at such a simple task? It was also strange that Emily had been so cautious against her! It should have been easy for her to get Emily’s blood with her ring when she fell on her. However, she had failed miserably!
Could Emily have seen through her? How would she explain it to the man who had ordered her to get Emily’s blood?
Emily had not actually discovered anything, but she could tell that Wendy had only ill intentions toward her. She was puzzled too. She thought that even if Wendy had been desperate, she would not have tried anything in public. It was not like her to act so rashly. What the hell had she wanted with her?
