CH 99.
Andrianne sat in the hospital waiting room, her mind racing with worry and fear for Lucas. She knew he was in the hands of capable doctors and nurses, but the thought of losing him made her feel sick to her stomach. She placed a hand on her swollen belly and felt the baby inside kicking as if sensing her mother’s anxiety.
As she sat there waiting, she couldn’t help but think about Emily and the fact that she was carrying Lucas’s child. It was a thought that made her feel a mixture of emotions – anger, jealousy, and sadness. But most of all, it made her realize how much she still loved Lucas, despite everything that had happened between them.
As she sat there lost in thought, a nurse approached her. “Excuse me, Mrs. Williams,” the nurse said kindly, “I have an update on Mr. Williams.”
Andrianne stood up quickly, her heart pounding with anticipation. “Is he okay?” she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
The nurse gave her a small smile. “The surgery went well, but he’s still in recovery. The doctor will be out to speak with you soon.”
Andrianne breathed a sigh of relief. “Thank you,” she said, her hand still on her belly. “Can I see him?”
The nurse nodded. “Yes, of course. Just give us a few minutes to get him settled and you can go in.”
Andrianne sat back down, her mind now turning to the baby inside her. She wondered what it would be like to have Lucas by her side during this pregnancy, to have him hold her hand during the birth of their child. But she knew that was just a fantasy – Emily was carrying Lucas’s child, and she couldn’t change that.
As she waited, she began to feel the baby kicking again, harder this time. It was almost as if the baby was trying to comfort her, and for a moment, Andrianne felt a glimmer of hope. Maybe things could work out between her and Lucas, she thought.
But then she remembered Emily and felt a wave of anger and frustration wash over her. She knew that Emily would do anything to keep Lucas, even if it meant lying and manipulating him. Andrianne wondered if Lucas would ever see through her lies, or if he would be blinded by his love for her.
As she sat there lost in thought, the doctor finally came out to speak with her. Andrianne stood up, her heart pounding with anticipation. “How is he?” she asked.
The doctor gave her a small smile. “He’s stable now. The surgery was a success, and we expect him to make a full recovery.”
Andrianne breathed a sigh of relief. “Thank you,” she said. “Can I see him now?”
The doctor nodded. “Yes, of course. Follow me.”
Andrianne followed the doctor down the hall, her heart racing with anticipation. She couldn’t wait to see Lucas and tell him how much she loved him, how much she wanted to be with him. As they entered the room, she saw Lucas lying there, his chest rising and falling with each breath. She walked over to his bedside and took his hand in hers.
“Lucas,” she whispered, her eyes filling with tears. “I’m here. I love you so much.”
Lucas stirred, his eyes slowly opening. “Andrianne?” he said, his voice weak.
Andrianne smiled through her tears. “Yes, it’s me. I’m here.”
Andrianne smiled at him, her heart swelling with love. “How are you feeling?”
Lucas winced in pain. “Like I got hit by a truck.”
Andrianne chuckled softly. “Well, you did get in a pretty bad accident. But you’re going to be okay.”
Lucas looked up at her, his eyes filled with concern. “Andrianne, I’m so sorry for everything. For pushing you away and hurting you. I never should have let Emily come between us.”
Andrianne felt tears prick at her eyes. “It’s okay, Lucas. We’ll talk about all of that later. Right now, you need to focus on getting better.”
Lucas nodded weakly, closing his eyes. Hours passed, and Lucas remained unconscious. Andrianne stayed by his side, talking to him and telling him how much she loved him. She also talked to her unborn child, telling it how much its father loved it and how he was fighting to come back to them.
As the night wore on, Andrianne’s exhaustion began to show, and she eventually fell asleep by Lucas’ side. She dreamt of their happy moments, and she prayed that they would have a chance to create more memories together.
The next day, Andrianne woke up to find Lucas staring at her. She couldn’t contain her joy and excitement and called out to the doctor. The doctor rushed in and examined Lucas, confirming that he was out of danger.
Andrianne felt a wave of relief wash over her. She looked at Lucas and whispered, “I’m so glad you’re okay, Lucas. I love you.”
Lucas smiled weakly and squeezed her hand, “I love you too, Andrianne,” he replied.
Andrianne knew that they had a long road ahead of them, but she was willing to do whatever it takes to make things right. She had faith that they would get through this together.
She watched him as he slept, his breathing shallow and labored. She couldn’t bear the thought of losing him. And so, every so often, she would get up and walk over to his bed, checking to see if he was okay.
She would sit beside him and hold his hand, feeling the warmth of his skin against hers. She would talk to him, telling him how sorry she was for everything that had happened. She would tell him that she loved him, that she never stopped loving him, and that she was willing to do anything to make things right.
Andrianne would often find herself lost in thought, thinking about all the good times they had shared together. She remembered how they would spend hours talking about their dreams and aspirations, and how they would always find a way to make each other laugh.
But then reality would hit her again, reminding her of the present situation. She would feel the baby kicking in her womb, a reminder that she had a child to think about as well. She couldn’t imagine raising a child alone, without Lucas by her side.
As the hours passed by, Andrianne grew more and more anxious. She was worried about the surgery, worried about Lucas’s recovery, and worried about what the future held for them. She knew that she couldn’t keep living like this, constantly worried and unsure of what was going to happen next.
But for now, all she could do was wait. Wait for Lucas to wake up, wait for the doctors to give her news, and wait for some kind of sign that everything was going to be okay. So she sat there, holding his hand, and praying that he would pull through.
