CH 55.
Andrianne sat in the hospital waiting room with her head in her hands, trying to keep her composure. She couldn’t believe what had happened, and she was scared for Lucas. Suddenly, a doctor walked towards her and she looked up.
“Mrs. Ross?” the doctor asked kindly.
“Yes, that’s me,” Andrianne replied, standing up nervously.
“I’m Dr. Johnson. Lucas has just come out of surgery and is in recovery. He’s stable now, but it was a close call.”
Andrianne felt a wave of relief wash over her. “Thank you, doctor. Can I see him?”
“Yes, of course. But you need to understand that he’s still very weak and will need a lot of rest.”
“I understand. Thank you so much,” Andrianne said gratefully.
The doctor led her to Lucas’s room and Andrianne couldn’t believe how pale he looked. She took his hand in hers and felt tears prick at her eyes.
“Hey, you,” she said softly.
Lucas slowly opened his eyes and looked at her. “Hey,” he said weakly.
Andrianne squeezed his hand. “How are you feeling?”
“Like I got hit by a truck,” he joked weakly.
Andrianne couldn’t help but smile. “You scared me, you know.”
“I’m sorry,” Lucas said softly. “I didn’t mean to.”
Andrianne leaned in and kissed his forehead. “It’s not your fault. You’re going to be okay now. I’ll take care of you.”
Lucas smiled weakly. “I know you will.”
Andrianne sat by his side for hours, holding his hand and talking to him. She was so relieved that he was going to be okay, but she couldn’t help but feel guilty for what had happened. She couldn’t shake the feeling that she could have done something to prevent it.
The doctor came in to check on Lucas, and Andrianne asked him about his injuries. The doctor explained that he had suffered a concussion, broken ribs, and a collapsed lung. He would need to stay in the hospital for a few more days for observation, but he was expected to make a full recovery.
Andrianne was relieved to hear the good news, but she knew that they still had a long road ahead of them. She would need to help Lucas through his recovery and be there for him every step of the way. She was ready for the challenge, though. Lucas was the love of her life, and she would do anything for him.
Andrianne walked into the room and found Jackie sitting alone, looking a bit shaken but unharmed. She immediately went to her friend and hugged her tightly, relieved to see that she was okay.
“Oh my god, Jackie, I’m so glad you’re alright. How did you manage to get away from him?” Andrianne asked, her voice filled with concern.
Jackie let out a shaky breath and ran her hands through her hair. “I don’t know, Andi. I just refused to let him scare me. I told him that I wasn’t afraid of him and that I would do whatever it takes to protect you and Lucas.”
Andrianne smiled at her friend’s courage. “You’re a true friend, Jackie. I don’t know what I would do without you.”
Jackie smiled back at her. “Hey, that’s what friends are for. Now go be with Lucas. I’m sure he needs you now more than ever.”
Andrianne nodded and gave her friend one last hug before making her way back to the hospital room. She sat by Lucas’s side and held his hand, praying for his recovery. She couldn’t help but feel grateful for the people in her life who were always there for her when she needed them the most.
As she sat there, lost in thought, she heard the sound of footsteps approaching. She looked up and saw the doctor walking towards her.
“How is he?” Andrianne asked, her voice trembling.
The doctor gave her a reassuring smile. “He made it through the surgery, but he’s still in critical condition. We’ll have to keep monitoring him closely.”
Andrianne nodded, feeling a sense of relief wash over her. “Thank you, doctor. I’ll do whatever it takes to help him recover.”
The doctor nodded and gave her a sympathetic look. “I know this must be hard for you, but you’re not alone. We’ll do everything we can to help him pull through.”
Andrianne felt a lump form in her throat as she looked back down at Lucas’s still form. She knew it was going to be a long road to recovery, but she was determined to be there for him every step of the way. She took a deep breath and held onto Lucas’s hand tightly, praying for a miracle.
Andrianne sat in the chair beside Lucas’ hospital bed and watched him sleep. She had been up all night, too afraid to leave his side. She felt a deep sense of guilt for what had happened to him, and she couldn’t bear the thought of leaving him alone.
As the hours passed by, Andrianne began to feel the fatigue setting in. Her eyes grew heavy, and she found herself nodding off. She jolted herself awake every time she felt her head drooping, not wanting to miss a moment of Lucas’ recovery.
It wasn’t until the early hours of the morning that Andrianne realized how long she had been sitting there. She looked around the room, and the sun was just starting to peek through the curtains. She had been so focused on Lucas that she hadn’t even noticed the passage of time.
With a deep sigh, Andrianne stood up and stretched her cramped muscles. She knew she had to go home and freshen up, but she didn’t want to leave Lucas alone. She decided to call her sister and ask her to come and stay with Lucas for a little while so she could go home and change.
As she stepped out of the hospital room and into the hallway, Andrianne felt a sense of relief wash over her. She could finally take a deep breath and clear her mind for a moment. She made her way to the parking lot and drove home, her thoughts consumed with worry for Lucas.
When she got home, Andrianne collapsed onto her couch and let out a deep sigh. She felt exhausted, both physically and emotionally. She knew she had to be strong for Lucas, but she didn’t know how much more she could take.
Andrianne got up and headed to her bedroom, determined to get a quick shower and change of clothes. As she stood under the warm water, she couldn’t help but think about Lucas lying in that hospital bed. She felt helpless, and she didn’t know what to do.
After she had finished getting ready, Andrianne headed back to the hospital. She felt a little bit better now that she had freshened up, but she knew she had a long road ahead of her. She didn’t know what the future held for her and Lucas, but she was determined to be there for him every step of the way.
