Fourty Six
As the sun rose above the horizon, the world slowly awakened from its slumber. The morning dew glistened like a million tiny diamonds on the grass, the scent of freshly brewed coffee wafted through the air, and the birds chirped their sweet melodies, signaling the start of a new day.
She rubbed her bleary eyes, blinking blearily at the bright sunlight that streamed through the window, and let out a deep sigh. It was 6 a. m, early enough to make breakfast for Lucas, her contracted husband, but she felt as if she hadn’t slept at all.
Andrianne tossed and turned on the soft, inviting mattress, her mind buzzing with a million thoughts and worries. She couldn’t seem to shake off the restlessness that had plagued her all night, and as the blaring sound of her alarm jolted her awake, she groaned inwardly, knowing that she had another day to face.
She rubbed her bleary eyes, blinking blearily at the bright sunlight that streamed through the window, and let out a deep sigh. It was 6 a. m, early enough to make breakfast for Lucas, her contracted husband, but she felt as if she hadn’t slept at all.
Andrianne had never believed in love or marriage, but fate had other plans for her. She had been forced into a marriage of convenience, a contractual agreement to marry Lucas for a specific period of time, to help him secure his inheritance. At first, she had resented the arrangement, feeling like she had been robbed of her freedom, but as time passed, she found herself slowly falling for him.
Despite the fact that they had started off as strangers, Andrianne and Lucas had formed an unlikely bond. They had become friends, confidants, and partners in crime. She had never expected to like him, let alone care for him, but there was something about his gentle smile and kind heart that drew her to him.
As she got out of bed and stretched her limbs, she couldn’t help but smile at the thought of him. Lucas had always been a morning person, full of energy and enthusiasm, and Andrianne had grown accustomed to his cheerful demeanor. She knew that he would be up and about, ready to start the day, and that thought brought her a sense of comfort.
She made her way to the kitchen, her bare feet padding softly on the cool tiles, and started to prepare breakfast. She hummed a tune under her breath, lost in thought, as she cooked. It was a simple meal, just some scrambled eggs and toast, but she put extra care into the presentation, knowing that Lucas appreciated the little things.
As she set the plates on the table, she couldn’t help but smile to herself, imagining his reaction. Lucas was always grateful and appreciative, and she knew that he would be touched by her gesture.
Andrianne sat down and poured herself a cup of coffee, sipping it slowly as she waited for him to appear. She glanced at the clock and saw that it was almost time for him to wake up, and she felt a flutter of anticipation in her chest.
She wondered what the day had in store for them, what adventures they would embark on, and what secrets they would uncover. She didn’t know what the future held, but as long as she had Lucas by her side, she knew that she could face anything.
Andrianne smiled to herself, feeling grateful for the unexpected turn her life had taken. She had never believed in love or marriage, but she had found both in the most unexpected of places, with the most unexpected of people.
Andrianne’s heart skipped a beat as she heard the sound of footsteps descending the stairs. She knew it was Lucas, her contracted husband, and she couldn’t help but feel a tingle of excitement at the thought of seeing him.
As he came into view, Andrianne couldn’t help but gasp at the sight of him. He was dressed to perfection, his shirt crisp and white against his tanned skin, his hair styled in a messy yet alluring way. His eyes sparkled with mischief and joy, and his smile was as bright as the morning sun.
Lucas was a sight to behold, with his broad shoulders and lean physique. He carried himself with confidence and grace, and Andrianne found herself mesmerized by his every movement.
His hair was a dark mess of waves, tousled by the morning breeze, and Andrianne couldn’t help but feel a sense of envy at how effortlessly he looked so good. He had a rugged, yet polished look, and she knew that he had put in extra effort to look his best for her.
As he approached her, she couldn’t help but feel a flutter in her stomach. She had grown to care for him deeply, and she found herself longing for his touch.
Lucas smiled at her, his eyes crinkling at the corners, and Andrianne felt her heart skip a beat, “Good morning, beautiful,” he said, his voice smooth as silk. “You look stunning today.”
Andrianne blushed, feeling a warmth spread through her cheeks. She knew that he was just being polite, but it still meant the world to her.
Lucas pulled out a chair and sat down, and Andrianne couldn’t help but stare at him.
As they ate breakfast together, chatting and laughing like old friends, Andrianne felt a sense of contentment wash over her.
Andrianne smiled at him, feeling grateful for the unexpected turn her life had taken. She had never believed in love or marriage, but she had found both in the most unexpected of places, with the most unexpected of people. Lucas had become more than just her contracted husband; he had become her friend, weirdly so but then it was better to be in a pretty safe space with him than in the shackles of a man she calls her father.
