When Elena returned to Michael’s ward, the man was still motionless on his bed.
“Has the doctor been here?” Elena asked.
Levi nodded, “The doctor said that it was difficult to explain what is happening to Eldest Young Master Williams, even from a medical’s perspective.
“The doctor also mentioned that he would wake up if we have enough faith in him, and when he is willing to wake up.”
“Faith?” Elena sat on the side of the hospital bed as she looked at Michael. His face was pale due to excessive blood loss.
“You will have to make him feel as though he would still have a bright future when he wakes up.”
A bright future! That was what Eldest Young Master Williams had talked about. He could have whatever he wanted. Was that not as bright a future that anyone could ask for?
Elena lowered her gaze to look at him. There was a frown on his face even when he was unconscious. She understood what Levi meant. However, she dared not make any promises.
“Miss Elena, I can’t force you to do anything, but just give it some thought. Was the past more important, or a future that’s worth looking forward to?”
Then Levi left the room, so there were only the two of them in the room.
Since they were alone, Elena decided to let herself loose. She held Michael’s hands in hers, and her eyes were moist. There was no need to debate as to whether the past or future was more important.
“But I…” she gazed at the large hand that she cradled in hers.
“I am a person that the public had forsaken, and you are the Williams family’s Eldest Young Master the hope of the entire M Williams u family.”
She bit her lip as she felt uncomfortable, her voice even choked.
“Michael, I understand your intentions, but I can’t be with you. You have such a prestigious position in the Williams family, and everyone will definitely scrutinize my past utterly and thoroughly.”
“If the people know how the Williams family’s Eldest Young Madam drugged her own cousin and was involved in despicable and immoral acts, it would ruin the Williams family’s reputation. You understand this, right?”
Elena was taken aback when Michael’s fingers twitched. She lowered her head and stared at his hands.
“Michael, can you hear me?”
Michael’s fingers moved again. He could hear her!
Elena got excited and squeezed his palms tightly. “Michael, please wake up!” However, there was no reaction from him.
Elena squeezed his palms with both her hands. The doctor said that she had to talk to him so that he would have the will to live.
Elena had not thought the injury was severe. However, the man had remained unconscious. She started to feel uneasy, and she even panicked a little.
She knew that everything would be fine as long as he woke up!
“Michael, I didn’t mean to hide from you, but I was too flustered. I did not know if I should forgive you.”
His fingers twitched again, and Elena’s heart soured. He really did care about that.
The mighty Eldest Young Master of the Williams family cared about a woman like her. A woman with an infamous and notorious reputation. Why would he bother with her?
“I really don’t know what to do!”
She thought that she could ignite his will to live if she continued to speak to him. However, she did not want to lie to him.
Elena leaned against his arm and closed her eyes. She tried her best not to cry.
Crying was for the weak. However, why did her tears still appear when she knew that it was useless?
Michael opened his eyes and stared at her soft, long hair.
It seemed like a long while before he softly said, “If you don’t know what to do, then give yourself to me. I will tell you what to do, okay?”
Elena was shocked when she heard his voice, and she raised her head abruptly. The moment she met his deep gaze, she started to cry.
“Doctor!” She shouted at the door. “Doctor, he’s awake. He’s…”
“I’ve been awake all this while.” Michael sat up.
Elena hurried to help him before she realized that she did not need to do that. It seemed like he was stronger than her.
She could not believe it. “You—”
“That’s right. I regained consciousness a while ago. I’m sorry.” He had not wanted to lie to her, but he was afraid that she would leave as soon as she found out that he was fine.
It took Elena two seconds to calm down, and then her expression sank. “You lied to me!”
She got up to leave, but Michael hugged her from behind.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to lie to you. I was afraid that you would ignore me.”
“Let me go.”
Elena struggled, but Michael frowned. “Elena, I have a headache.”
“You’re still lying to me!” Elena turned to face him and angrily said, “Michael, what are you…”
His frown made her swallow her words. That man could easily cause a woman’s heart to melt. Even though she was reluctant, she finally gave in and took a look at him.
As soon as she saw his frown, strings tugged at her heart, and her heart softened. Michael did have a headache, but he did not want to use it to garner her pity.
He grasped Elena’s hand tightly. “Give yourself to me, and I will handle everything.”
“You can’t handle it.” He must know the immense pressure of the public’s opinion.
Even if he could buy all the media platforms to suppress the public’s opinion, her past would come up again if she were Eldest Young Madam of the Williams.
The public must think that her children were conceived during those incidents, which would greatly affect her children’s lives. They might even be hurt in the future.
“What if I am no longer the Williams family’s Eldest Young Master? What if I am just an ordinary commoner?”
Michael hugged her tightly; he was unwilling to let go of her, not even for a moment.
“Elena, can I not give you any sense of security? Is it because I had hurt you so deeply in the past? Would you feel better if I give up everything for you?”
“You…would give up everything?”
“I can hand my position as the CEO of Williams Corporation to Henry. I can leave Bentson and live the rest of my life with you.”
That was not a joke. Elena understood him well, and she knew what he would do as he said.
It was because she knew what he was serious that she panicked even more.
“I don’t want that!”
She tried to push him away with all of her strength.
However, Michael still held on to her tightly. He would not let go of her, no matter what she said.
“Since you are unwilling to face it, then I shall go into hiding with you. We can go anywhere.”
“Michael, you’ve gone mad!” He was the Williams family’s Eldest Young Master, the CEO of Williams Corporation. That was an honorable and prestigious position! He must be crazy to say that he would give it all up.
“No, the Michael from two years ago was mad. That was why he did all those things to hurt you. My mind is very clear now.”
His mind was sharp, and he knew what he wanted.
“Elena, in all my life, I have never pursued much of anything. I was ignorant and self-centered, and I want everything in the world to succumb to me. But now, my head is completely clear. I want a family, a family that I can call my own.”
He had never said that because he did not know how to express it, and he had been quite nervous when he said that to her. That was the first time he had said something like that. He was afraid that his words would make her unhappy.
Elena lowered her head to stare at the hand that held hers. It seemed like his fingers had trembled.
It must have been hard for someone like Michael to ask forgiveness from another person.
“Elena, please don’t leave me. I don’t want anything else. I just want my wife and my children. We will not go back. We’ll just live a simple life anonymously, okay?”
