Old Master Garcia’s mind was quite alert. He knew that something was amiss.
However, both of them were his family, one his daughter, and the other his beloved granddaughter; he would not suspect them no matter what he felt.
Ava smiled sweetly, but the tone of voice was cold.
“Grandfather, didn’t you say that Garcia Corporation is rightfully mine?”
The old master was stunned; why would she bring that up? What did she mean by that?
“Grandfather, tomorrow is the day for the banquet, but at this moment, I am still nothing.”
“You are my granddaughter!” She was the granddaughter of the Garcia family. How could she say that she was nothing?
“Outsiders would just think that I am a randomly adopted child.”
“Who would dare to speak such nonsense?” the old master said unhappily.
Ava sat down by the bed and looked at him calmly; it made the old master uneasy. “Ava, what are you trying to say? Just tell me straight.”
“Grandfather, you promised to give me shares to the company.” Ava decided to speak bluntly.
Old Master Garcia hurriedly said, “Yes, I did. Didn’t I say that we’ll meet with the lawyers and make the transfer on Monday?”
“You are going to announce that I am your biological granddaughter tomorrow. Everyone will know that I am a granddaughter of the Garcia family by then.”
Ava was clearly dissatisfied with the arrangement.
She groaned somberly. It was completely different from the gentle and sweet-tempered granddaughter that he thought he knew.
“What if the public asked me how much shares of Garcia Corporation I own? How should I reply?”
The old master did not answer her and remained silent. He understood what Ava meant. It made little difference if he transferred the company stock to her earlier; Garcia Corporation would belong to her eventually.
However, she had lured him out to sea to talk about that, and the old master felt as if he had been manipulated. The initial kinship that he had lessened after all the lies and manipulations.
Nevertheless, she was Harley’s child. What could he do?
“Ava, what would you have me do?”
The Old Master sighed helplessly and powerlessly.
Ava retrieved an agreement that she had prepared in advance and placed it in front of him.
“Grandpa, I have already discussed with the lawyers. You own thirty percent of Garcia Corporation. All you have to do is sign this agreement, and I will be the rightful granddaughter of the Garcia family.”
The old master’s eyes widened in bleakness; she had prepared an agreement!
He had intended to give her his shares, but at that moment, he felt as if she had coerced him into doing that. Any sane person would feel uncomfortable in that situation.
Old Master Garcia stared at Ava; it was not a look of hesitation but grief.
Ava frowned unhappily. “What’s the matter Grandpa, are you going back on your promise? You are not treating me like I’m your granddaughter.”
“Why would I ever do that?” However, his words lacked enthusiasm.
“Then why won’t you sign the agreement?” Ava had to get him to sign it that day, no matter what!
The old master sighed as he looked at the agreement and picked up a pen. However, his expression changed as he read the paperwork.
“You want all of my shares? All 30 percent?” Had they not agreed to ten percent?
However, the agreement stated 30 percent! What was she thinking?
“Is there a problem with 30 percent?”
Ava pretended to be innocent as she stared at him with her head tilted. “Grandfather, are you reluctant now?”
Old Master Garcia did not know what to say. Ava wanted all of his shares in Garcia Corporation! All 30 percent of them!
It seemed like she had an enormous appetite!
When Ava saw his hesitation, she became unhappy, and her expression grew somber.
“Grandfather, you said that my father was to inherit Garcia Corporation from you. But it was your fault that he died!”
The old master was shocked and stared at her fiercely. He could not believe that she would say something like that!
“Was that not the truth? You did not allow my parents to be together, so that’s why they eloped.”
Ava did not spend a month at the Garcia House in vain. She had thoroughly investigated that incident that happened years ago.
“Did you know how my father spent his life after he left? Do you even have any regrets about what had happened?”
“Ava, stop it.” How could he not regret it?
The old master’s chest tightened, so he rested his hand over it.
“Why should I stop? You killed my mom and dad, and you won’t allow me to mention it?”
Ava sneered without an ounce of sympathy at the pale old man.
“You should admit what you did, Grandfather. Just admit that you owe me. Is that so difficult?”
“I do owe you, Ava, but what’s done is done. I promise that I will love you with all my heart.”
He really did not want to mention it, or to remember it! He felt as if his heart was torn apart, and it had hurt.
“You say that you love me. Are these merely hollow words?”
Ava could not even describe how she despised his guilt toward her.
“Ava…”
He did not understand why his beloved granddaughter would act like that. Did she really hate him? Was she not willing to forgive him?
“Why won’t you sign the agreement if you feel so guilty, Grandfather?”
Ava leaned toward him; her eyes were full of hate and disdain.
“You broke my family apart, but you won’t even pay a small price to make up for it. Your so-called love for my father, Harley, amounts to nothing.”
“Don’t ever bring up my father again, or that I am your beloved granddaughter! Because deep down, you are just a selfish person!”
The old master’s heart pounded, and his breath grew heavy.
He gasped for air and stared at Ava. He was unsure whether it was due to heartache or distress. He stared at the agreement in his hands, and his heart grew cold as it trembled.
“Grandfather, if you really want to make it up to me, then sign it.”
Ava’s voice hovered around his ears and even lingered in his heart. It was like a demonic voice; it remained and did not disperse.
“Grandfather, do not hesitate anymore. Didn’t you say that you loved me and wanted to make it up to me?”
A pen was shoved into the old master’s hand, and the agreement was flipped open before him.
Ava took his hand and placed it on the agreement.
The tip of the pen rested on the signature line.
Her lips curled as she stared into the old master’s dim eyes.
“Sign it, Grandfather.”
