Chapter 384 I’m Tired

Book:The Reborn Wife Published:2024-5-1

Elena quickened her pace toward WongRiver Pavilion and then stepped into the foyer.
As soon as she entered the door, she felt cold energy from the sofa. She shuddered as she clenched her fists.
She thought he would be late again that night, but he was already home at nine in the evening. There was only a cup of tea on the coffee table. His cellphone was on the side table, but it did not demand his attention. The ashtray, on the other hand, already had a few cigarette butts in it.
How long had he sat there?
“Eldest Young Master Williams.” Elena took a deep breath to keep herself calm as she walked toward him.
“Went to hang out with your friends?” Michael had a hint of alcohol on him, so Elena knew that he had partaken some that night.
He had had many business meals of late, and he always reeked of alcohol whenever he got home. He had been busy because it had only been less than three months since he took over Williams Corporation.
“Yes, I had dinner with them.” Elena stood in front of the sofa.
As soon as their conversation paused, the air in the foyer suddenly quieted down. Elena was not sure what was on his mind as he enjoyed his tea in silence.
After a few awkward moments, Elena softly said, “Eldest Young Master Williams, I’ll go—”
“Who sent you home?” he suddenly asked.
Elena clenched her fists slightly. She wanted to tell a little white lie and say that she took a taxi home. However, she swallowed those words as soon as they reached the tip of her tongue. She could not bear the consequences of a lie to Michael.
Finally, she said, “Henry sent me back. He dropped me off at the entrance.”
Michael did not say anything to that. He lit a cigarette and took a casual drag. He looked as cold as ever, so she was not sure if he was angry. Even if he were furious, he would not let it show on his face, and that made Elena even more uneasy.
Michael took his time to smoke for another two minutes, and he said nothing to her. Even though he did not react, he could still create an intense pressure that kept her in suffocation.
After a long while, Elena could no longer bear with the wait. She said, “I’m going upstairs.”
“Hmm.”
Eldest Young Master Williams was supposed to be angry with her that night. How could he not be mad when it was Henry who had sent her home? Elena was prepared to accept her punishment. After she took a shower, she waited for him in the room.
Half an hour later, Michael went into the room. As soon as he entered, he took a bathrobe and went to the bathroom. Elena’s heart pounded as she listened to the sound of running water.
Michael got out of the bathroom about ten minutes later. His hair was still wet.
After he dropped the towel that he used to dry his hair, he looked at Elena. The girl clenched her fist, turned, and laid chest-down on the bed.
When he was not happy about something, he would torture her from behind like that. Elena had spent more than a month with him, and so she was used to his ways.
Michael went behind her and lowered his eyes to look at the girl on the bed.
Elena gripped the bedsheet tightly; his silence made her even more nervous. The night might not be so easy for her to endure.
Suddenly, Michael spanked her on her buttocks.
“Argh!” Elena shouted in surprise.
“Eldest Young Master Williams…” Perplexed, she turned around to look at him.
“Is that your favorite posture?” A smile danced in Michael’s eyes.
Was that a smile? Elena did not know how to react to that. She had not seen him smile so sincerely in a month, ever since she agreed to a deal with him. Was that a real smile? Was he not angry that she had been with Henry that night?
“What? Are you that eager, still sticking your bum out like that?” Michael stared at her body.
Elena shivered and quickly sat up straight as she stared at him. Her face blushed in embarrassment as she explained, “I wasn’t… I don’t…”
“If you weren’t eager, why did you stick your butt out like that?” Michael looked at her blushed face with a half-smile. Elena felt her face had gotten warmer; it was as if her entire body was on fire.
He had twisted her intention on purpose; she merely thought…thought he would…
However, she blushed even harder when she thought about how it had looked as a man leered at her when she laid on the bed like that. She felt shameless, even though it was merely a thought in her head.
“I don’t feel like doing it tonight, so don’t seduce me.” Michael sat down on the sofa. “Bring me a glass of wine.”
“Still drinking?” As soon as she asked that, Elena realized that she had acted beyond her rank.
Even though she was supposed to be with Eldest Young Master Williams for three months, she did not enjoy a status at all. It was not that she had accepted her fate, but she merely understood that there was no use to fight against that. She only had to endure it for another month or so.
She walked to the wine shelf. She had learned how to open a bottle of wine. She could even pull the cork out easily. After she poured a glass of red wine, she went to Michael and offered him the drink with both her hands. “Eldest Young Master Williams, your wine.”
“Didn’t you say that it’s not good to keep drinking? I’ll listen to you.” Michael pushed her hands away softly and leaned back on the sofa as he closed his eyes.
Elena felt a little displeased—did he just play her? Why would he let her open a bottle of wine if he no longer wanted a drink?
The wine would taste bad the next day if he did not mean to drink it that night. What a waste! That bottle must have cost tens of thousands!
Wealthy people could lead such frustrating lives, at times.
She set the glass aside and stared at his handsome face. He had closed his eyes, and Elena did not know what she should do next. She had not spent much time with him when he was like that. Whenever he was in the room, it was either he was ready to jump into action with her, or he would already be in the middle of it.
He said that he did not want to do it that night. Why was that?
“Eldest Young Master Williams, then… I’ll go back to my room.” Since he did want her, that meant she was free, right?
Michael did not react to her question; he continued to rest with his eyes closed. His breathing was even as if he had fallen asleep.
Since she did not get an answer from him, Elena sighed and turned around to tiptoe toward the door. Just as her hand was about to touch the door handle, his hoarse voice echoed, “Come back here.”
Elena was startled, and she almost lost her footing.
Did he not say that he did not want her that night?
The ‘come back’ sounded like a nightmare to her as if she had been pulled back into an ice cave.
“Are you like all those other people who got close to me because they wanted something from me? And once I’m asleep, you’ll carry out a conspiracy to go against me?”
His words tugged at Elena’s heart.
“I’m not.” Elena went to him as if she was ready with her explanation.
However, Michael suddenly opened his eyes and looked at the uneasy expression on her face. “I’m tired.”
