Chapter 379 This is the End

Book:The Reborn Wife Published:2024-5-1

“You… What the hell are you trying to say!” Rupert did not expect his son would speak to him like that. He knew that Michael was arrogant, and sometimes he would even show attitude toward Old Master Williams. However, Rupert never expected his son would scold him so boldly in front of everyone else!
“What’s wrong with a man from a powerful family to have a few women around him? Sure, I may have treated them unfairly sometimes, but have I not paid them enough money?” He even gave Sarah the status as the Eldest Madam in the Williams family. The woman should not have anything to complain about! Unfortunately, not only was she not grateful for her status, she even cheated on him!
Rupert even felt fortunate that the woman had died. Otherwise, he was unsure if she would continue to cheat on him!
“Do you really think a wife is someone you could pay off?” Michael’s face was as cold as a frozen mountain peak. He was neither angry nor disdainful. He was only bitter.
“You—” Rupert pointed angrily at Michael. He was so furious that his finger even shook!
“I AM YOUR FATHER!”
“And how is a father, not a man?”
“What do you mean?!”
“A man should always be faithful to his wife! If you can’t even do that, do you think you have the right to ask your wife for the same thing?”
“You—”
“Why are there so many young masters in the Williams family?” Michael sneered on his otherwise expressionless face.
“Me, Dylan, Henry, Porter—four different mothers. We can’t even count how many more women you have outside this family.”
“ENOUGH!” Old Master Williams bellowed and hit the arm of his chair; his face was dark beyond any description! Except for Michael and Dylan, who was still traumatized by his mother’s death, everyone gasped when the old man’s outburst startled them.
Michael was not afraid of anyone. It was ironic as it was Old Master Williams who nurtured that specific characteristic of his. Coldly, he said, “Not enough.”
“Why, you little brat! What else do you…”
“Well, if you are not loyal, you do not have the right to blame your other half for betraying you. It’s the same for both husband and wife!” Michael was not one to compromise, even as Old Master Williams fumed with anger.
That was Eldest Young Master Williams’s unique personality!
Old Master Williams stared at his grandson with a cold and calculative stare, but he did not say another word. There was a doubt in his mind—was he wrong with his previous insistence?
Finally, he frowned and softened his tone. “You little brat. I have said this about women—you can spoil them, love them, but you can never…”
“It has nothing to do with love. It’s just our responsibility as men.” Michael did not look at Old Master Williams, but only at his father.
“You don’t have to love her for a marriage, but you need to be fair once you are married. Don’t expect others to do what you can’t. If you think that it is okay for you to cheat, then expect the same for your partner.”
Rupert trembled in anger. His wife had betrayed him, and yet his son thought that he was in the wrong! What was wrong with Michael? Was he blind?
Michael did not want to persuade him any longer; it was foolish to do so. He merely wanted to share his thoughts—Sarah did not betray him.
However, she did murder his grandmother!
“Stop digging the lake in the backyard.” Old Master Williams was exhausted. Even though he did not have that many interactions with Sarah and they did not have any affection toward each other, she was still family, and she had always behaved well for the family’s sake.
He might have been angry that she had cheated on his son, but she had passed on. It was a meaningless fight over the issue.
Michael did not say anything else. He had wanted to find a murderer when he started the dig, but that person had admitted her guilt, and she had even taken her own life. If they were to continue to dwell on the matter, it might affect Williams Corporation’s stock prices and their family’s reputation. No good would come out of it.
“I beg you, Eldest Brother. Please don’t continue with the investigation.” There was a loud thud as Dylan dropped to his knees.
“Second Young Master, what are you doing?” The butler quickly went to help him up. However, Dylan pushed him away. “I beg you, Eldest Brother, please don’t investigate this anymore. Please let her keep her status as the Williams family’s Eldest Madam and let her… rest in peace.”
If Michael were to continue with the investigation, then there was a chance that they would expose Sarah’s betrayal. Dylan did not want any damages to his mother’s reputation, even if she was already dead.
Everyone looked at Michael. He was the one who ordered the dig, so he would have to be the one to stop it.
Michael had his doubts too. It did not seem like they would solve all the mysteries if they did not continue with the dig. However, if they were to continue with it, the Williams family’s name would not be the only thing at risk. It might even ruin Dylan’s personal reputation for the rest of his life. He was a son from a rich and powerful family, and the public might twist the story of his mother’s affair into something even less desirable. For example, his DNA might be called into question.
Michael pursed his lips and stood up.
“Go and get some rest.”
“But Eldest Brother…”
“This ends here.”
Then, Michael left. Dylan was still on the floor, dumbfounded. He was not sure if he was relieved or if he simply could not find his breath.
The matter had finally been resolved. However, he had lost his mother—the woman who had always put him first and done everything for him. She had never complained about him even though he was stubborn and short-tempered.
If there were one person who had loved him all his life, it would be his mother. It would always be his mother!
Unfortunately, his mother was gone—no one else would love him as much as she did!
Rupert wanted to help his son up from the floor, but he had no courage to do that. Did his son hate him too? He was uneasy about the situation. The vigor he felt when he blamed Sarah for her betrayal vanished when he saw the way his son had looked.
He had blamed Sarah because he felt guilty for his own actions. Michael had been right; he did not only have one woman in his life. However, he still wanted to blame her; it was as if he would make more sense if he were vocal about it. If he did not blame her, other people might think that he was responsible for everything that had happened.
However, Rupert noticed how dispirited his second-born had looked at that precise moment.
“Second Young Master, the floor is cold. Please, get up.” The butler wanted to help him up.
Dylan continued to ignore him. He looked lifeless as he sat on the floor as if he was utterly lost in his own thoughts.
Perhaps he did not think about anything other than the fact that the woman who had loved him the most was gone.
