Sarah’s voice gradually grew weaker. After two seconds of silence, her whole body twitched violently—intense spasms in every cell of her body!
“Sarah, Sarah!” Elena wanted to dash toward her, but her limbs were bound, so she fell back onto the ground.
“Sarah! Don’t you dare go! Don’t go!” She panicked!
Sarah’s face had turned dark, and the spasms had stopped.
Elena knew what that implied; she would lose Sarah for good if the older woman quieted down completely.
“Sarah… Help! Help! Somebody help!” Elena did not forget that they were on an island, and no one was there to help them. However, she had run out of ideas; she had to try.
“Help, someone’s dying! Help! Help…”
It was an empty night, and no one answered her calls.
Sarah’s face continued to ashen as if her entire body had fallen into darkness. She stared at Elena with her dimmed eyes. “Help me… take care… of my son…” Her voice turned to low whispers until she drew her last breath.
Elena felt as if she was detached from the world; she could no longer see or hear anything around her. Her vision blurred, and in it, she could only see Sarah lifeless eyes as they continued to stare at her. It was as if they wanted to know why she forced Sarah to a desperate corner? Why would she dig the lake? Why would she force Sarah to take action? Why would she force Sarah to her death?
Sarah was dead.
Elena laid face-first on the ground. She was very close to Sarah; she could touch her if she were to reach for her with her hands. However, she could not do it; her hands were still tied behind her back, and she could not free herself from it.
After some time, she saw a few silhouettes that made their way toward her. An unknown voice called out, “MOM!” She could not see that person as her vision was still blurred.
She could only see Sarah’s lifeless eyes; they were still wide-opened.
Her lifeless eyes.
Suddenly, someone lifted her by her shoulder and helped her up. It was as if that slight contact had awakened Elena from a dream. As soon as she woke up, she realized she was still in it.
“Don’t touch me, don’t touch me! NO! Argh! Let me go!” For some reason, she felt stuck. Then she blacked out before she fell into someone’s arms, but she did not know who that was.
“Elena!” Michael untied the ropes from her limbs and carried her in his arms. The girl had fainted as her face was as white as paper. Her body had trembled just before she fainted.
Sarah’s body was on the ground not far from her, and when they arrived, Elena had kept her eyes on Sarah’s lifeless pupils.
Sarah had stopped breathing.
“Mom! Mom!” Dylan dropped to his knees by his mother’s body. He lifted her and held her in his arms; his fingers shook as if he had gone mad.
“Call an ambulance, call one right now! Quick!”
Levi crouched down next to him to check for Sarah’s pulse. He shook his head at Michael when he realized that she had none.
She was dead, so it was pointless to call an ambulance. Besides, they were on an island, so they would not get an ambulance even if they wanted one.
“Second Young Master…”
“I’m telling you to call an ambulance, did you not hear me?!” Dylan yelled furiously.
“Call an ambulance! Quick! Call an ambulance now!”
“Second Young Master, please calm down. Eldest Madam has… She…”
“Shut up! You shut up!” Dylan would just have to do it himself if no one else were willing to help him!
Dylan looked for his cellphone frantically. The phone was in his trousers pocket, but he could not fish it out for some reason. His hand shook violently; he could not even reach into his pocket. He could not get to his phone, so he could not make a call, which meant he could not call an ambulance!
His helpless eyes suddenly fell on Michael.
“Eldest Brother, please help me, Eldest Brother! Please call an ambulance to save my mom! Eldest Brother! Please save my mother!”
Michael looked at him, and his thin lips moved slightly, but he could not say anything to comfort his brother. He had not seen him so panicked before that.
“Eldest Brother! Help me! Save my mom!” Dylan begged his brother as if he was the only one who could save his mother.
Finally, as he held Elena tightly in his arms, he coldly said, “She’s gone.”
Dylan was stunned for a few seconds, and suddenly he became furious.
“Bullsh*t! You’re lying! My mom is still here! She is still here!”
“Second Young Master, please calm down. Eldest Madam has…passed on. You need to calm down!” Levi’s words could not calm him down, so Ewan rushed forward to bind his limbs.
“Second Young Master, let’s go home. Let’s take Eldest Madam home!”
That was how Ewan brought Dylan back to Williams’s mansion—he had him tied up.
Dylan tried to fight him, but eventually, he lost the energy to do so. Finally, he had calmed down.
Perhaps it was not calmness that claimed him, but hopelessness. He understood that Sarah was dead, but he was desperate. He was so discouraged that he did not want to say another word.
They sent Elena to the hospital, and Ryan managed to treat her wounds. He concluded that she was fine. Other than the wound on her head and some minor blood loss, she did not suffer from any other injury. She was still unconscious, but it was probably due to the shock.
Back at the Williams’s mansion, Old Master Williams stood at the foyer with a gloomy expression on his face.
Levi had brought them a letter—Sarah’s last note before she poisoned herself. She had admitted her fault in the message. She explained how she set a mechanism in the lake and tied the water weed on Old Madam Williams’s wheelchair. She also mentioned how she waited for Elena to arrive before she triggered the mechanism remotely so that no one would be suspicious of her.
The mechanism was still buried in the lake.
When Sarah knew that Eldest Young Master Williams wanted to dig into the lake, she knew that it would not be long before they found the mechanism. There was no escape for her.
She also explained why she had done what she did to Old Madam Williams—she had found out about Sarah’s affair.
Rupert’s face was darker than the night sky—how he wished he could tear that letter apart! However, before he could do so, Michael snatched the letter and told Levi to keep it.
“That shameless woman!” Rupert’s face had turned green.
He was not saddened by Sarah’s death but of her betrayal!
Michael’s looked at his father’s angry red face and coldly asked, “How was she shameless? She only found another man.”
“Michael…” Rupert did not expect his son would talk to him that way. He was so stunned that he did not know how to react.
Michael pursed his thin lips and glanced at his father. Then he snorted.
“How many times have you betrayed her the same way? She only had one other man. How many women had YOU been with?”
