Michael continued to eat; it was as if he did not hear what Elena had said. Elena bit her lips; she would not give up.
“Eldest Young Master Williams, you told me that Grandmother was the one person you respected the most. Don’t you want to know how she—”
“You seem to have eaten enough.” The man finally spoke, but he did not look at her.
Elena felt something stuck in her heart; she felt sad. She could not find anyone to side with her in the Williams family. The old master would not agree to dig at the lake. Eldest Young Master Williams was her only hope!
“The old madam had died without any explanations. You have the responsibility to give her the justice that she deserved!”
Michael put down his chopsticks, and his face was gloomy.
“Weren’t you the only one there when Grandmother’s accident happened?”
Elena was stunned. What did he mean by that?
Did he not believe her after all that? Did he think that she had something to do with what had happened?
“It wasn’t me!” She grabbed the embroidered table cloth tightly with her trembling fingers. “If you don’t believe me, you can send someone to the lake and—”
“Since you’re done eating, go upstairs, clean yourself up, and wait for me.”
“But Eldest Young Master Williams…”
“Take her up.” Michael’s cold voice meant it was an order.
Levi lowered his chopsticks and went to Elena.
“Miss Elena, please go upstairs.”
Elena stared at Michael’s steady eyes. She was still unwilling to give up. She did not believe that he had no desire to find out what had happened during that time. Perhaps he had already decided that she was the one who did it?
“Eldest Young Master Williams…”
“Miss Elena, let me take you upstairs!” Levi put more weight into his voice. He was afraid that Eldest Young Master Williams would really get mad if she did not stop. His temper was not something that Elena could bear. “Please don’t make things difficult for me!” Levi deepened his tone again.
Elena bit her lips, but she finally stood up and left the dining hall.
That night, he went back to the room after ten at night.
After he took a shower, he threw Elena on the bed. She laid on her chest and did not resist him. However, she did not give up on her pursuit, as well.
“Why don’t you even try? She was your beloved grandmother!”
The man behind her did not say a word as he flung his bathrobe on a chair.
Elena gritted her teeth as she quietly endured his stormy devastation on her. However, he was unprecedentedly terrifying that night. Every hit on her body was enough to wreck her. Finally, when she could not take it anymore, she cried hoarsely, “Why…”
Nobody told her why, but she knew that he wanted to punish her—she had stood too close to Dylan, which meant she was involved in suspicious actions with another man.
The man could be incredibly petty!
She felt only pain…
She clenched on the bed sheet under her and cried softly…
…
Sunlight shone through the glass wall and onto the bed. The girl was still buried in the linens when she gradually opened her eyes. Then she shut them right away. She had not gotten used to the sunshine so early in the morning.
After a long while, she opened her eyes again and saw everything in the room clearly.
Eldest Young Master Williams had left the room.
She could still smell him in the air, but there was no warmth on his side of the bed anymore.
So painful…
Elena held the blanket tightly as she struggled to sit up. She wanted to get off the bed to clean herself, but she had no energy for it. She looked at the empty room, and her hopelessness completely swallowed her.
He did not believe her. No matter what she said, he would never believe her again!
Never ever…
She finally cried.
The morning was cold and lonely, and even the sunlight could not bring her comfort.
The girl sat up in the bed as she hugged her knees and wept quietly. However, she did not know why she cried. She had hurt him too deeply, and so he was fixated on her betrayal.
It was natural that he did not believe her. It would take a miracle for him to believe her again.
How would one find a miracle in the world anyway? Miracles were made up by people who were in deep despair to comfort themselves. She did not believe in that word anymore.
She wiped her tears with the back of her hands. Her eyes were still moist, but her heart had calmed.
‘Do not cry, because tears are of no value in this place.’
She flipped the blanket and sluggishly got off the bed. When her feet touched the floor, she still felt so sore that she almost could not steady herself.
That animal! When he got crazy, it was like he was not even human!
She would rather die of pain!
Three months. Once the agreed timeline had reached the end, would everything be halted as well?
After she washed up, Elena went downstairs. She ate some pastries and walked out of the living room to the yard. Everybody was busy with their work; it seemed like she was the only one with nothing to do.
She did not feel too well that day, and she was wary too. Even if she had studied in the room, she would not be able to gain much input.
Subconsciously, Elena walked out of WongRiver Pavilion.
She got on a cart and drove toward the backyard. As she got nearer to the garden, she could feel the difference in the atmosphere.
Why was it so noisy there? It sounded like there was a big construction.
It got noisier when she got closer to her destination. She saw a lot of people there too, and it seemed like it was a lively atmosphere.
Was that not the place where the old madam had met her fate? What had happened?
Elena stopped the cart, and despite her sluggishness, she managed to get off and walked toward the filled-lake.
Along the way, she walked past servants who moved in the opposite direction.
“What’s going on there? What’s everybody working on?” She grabbed one of them and quietly asked the question.
Fortunately, it was a new maid, and she did not recognize Elena. She said, “Eldest Young Master Williams is directing a dig.”
“A dig?”
“Yes. They said that there used to be a lake here and it got filled. They’re going to dig it open again.”
Rich people were funny like that, and it was not a small job too. It would cost a lot to dig up the soil and get them filled again.
However, the Williams family was wealthy, so the amount was insignificant to them.
Elena could not remember how the maid left. All she could think of was what she had said to her. Eldest Young Master Williams had ordered a dig at the lake…
Eldest Young Master Williams wanted to dig filled-lake!
He would really do that!
She ignored the soreness in her legs and walked toward the excitement.
When she saw the tall figure under the sun, she felt as if she could feel his warmth through the coldness of his back. Elena started to cry.
Miracles did exist, after all!
Miracles were not made up by those who wanted to comfort themselves.
Miracles were real, and at that moment, it was right before her eyes.
She leaned on a tree and covered her mouth.
During her hardest times, she would only cry to herself. She had never let herself lose that much control.
However, when she saw the figure under the tree, she wailed until she almost lost her voice.
‘Michael, what kind of a man are you?’
When she was desperate, he had given her the biggest hope. Even though she knew that he did it for the old madam, he believed her!
It was enough that he believed her!
