Chapter 371 Bone Chilling Wind

Book:The Reborn Wife Published:2024-5-1

After Dylan got off work, he heard that Elena had made an appearance in the Williams’s estate. He did not think it was possible, but when he looked into the matter, he realized that Elena had been there.
However, he could not find a good reason to visit her if she was in WongRiver Pavilion, and he certainly did not expect to run into her in the backyard.
“Look at what you’re wearing! The wind is so strong; you might catch a cold!” Dylan walked toward her and covered her shoulders with his jacket. There was still some of his body warmth left on the coat, which helped to rid the coldness that she had felt.
She looked at the man who sat next to her. He had treated her miserably because of Ava, and then he treated her as a friend. How time had changed!
“Thinking of Grandmother again?” Dylan looked at her face that seemed to have been frozen by the cold wind.
Elena nodded as she pulled the jacket tighter around her. She did not say a single word.
“Have you eaten yet?” It looked like she had been there for a whole day.
When he saw her from afar, she looked as if she was in deep meditation. There were even some dried leaves on her hair.
Elena shook her head. She raised her head and looked around her. She realized that the lights in the backyard had been turned on. She did not know how long she had sat there!
“There’s something on the top of your head.” Dylan reached out to brush the dried leaves from her hair.
They sat close to each other. Some people might think they were in each other’s arms, and Elena felt it was a little inappropriate.
She said, “I still have something to do; I need to go now.”
Even though Dylan appeared to have changed—he was no longer as annoying as he had been—he was still a man from the Williams family. It was best to stay away from all of them.
She stood up, but her legs were numb. She could not hold her own weight, and her legs buckled. She fell right into Dylan’s chest.
Dylan had his hands on her shoulder. He knew he should help her up, but he did not want her to push him away.
“I’m sorry!” Elena held onto his shoulders as she tried to find her balance, but she could not even stand up. Her legs were numb because she had sat on them for a very long time. They were sore as well!
After the numbness was gone, Elena was about to step away from Dylan. Before she could take a step back, she felt a cold aura that made her panicked. She turned her head and saw a tall silhouette under a tree. She could not see his face, but she was familiar with the coldness that could freeze the air around them.
Dylan helped Elena up and took a few steps back after he made sure that she could steady herself. He did not want to leave her unique aroma, but it would not do the girl any good if he did not back off.
“Eldest Brother…”
That person did not answer, but the stern look in his eyes was colder than the bone-chilling wind in the winter.
“Let me explain it to him,” Dylan said.
Elena replied coldly, “If Second Young Master Williams could leave right away, it would be the biggest help to me.”
Dylan felt a little unwilling to do that. She was no longer his brother’s fiancée, so why did she still belong to him? He clenched his fists, but he was also worried that his pestering would do her more harm than good.
Finally, he turned around and looked at Elena. “If you need help with anything, please don’t hesitate to seek me out.”
Elena did not respond. She had no desire to seek help from any man in the Williams family.
She waited until the numbness went away before she walked toward Michael.
“Eldest Young Master Williams…”
There was an indescribable coldness in the depth of his eyes, like the wind that howled at night. She shivered when he looked at her.
Michael did not speak as he watched the girl make her way toward him.
He had changed a lot. He could make one uncomfortable with just one look.
She even had an urge to apologize to him! It was not because she did anything wrong, but because of the energy that he projected. It would overwhelm a person until they obey him!
Nobody knew what was in his mind, not even Levi, who was always next to him.
He had no expression on his already cold face. The air pressure seemed so low that it made people breathless.
A gust of cold wind blew over them, and Elena subconsciously contracted her body. She had spent too much time in the wind, and she had not eaten anything for dinner. She felt like she was out of energy.
Michael’s eyes fell on the jacket on her shoulder. Elena just realized that she still had Dylan’s jacket. She took it off without any hesitation. She shivered in the cold wind and turned around to return the coat to Dylan. When she looked back at Michael, he had already made his way toward WongRiver Pavilion. Elena dashed forward to catch up with him.
Levi drove the buggy to them, and Michael got on first. Elena grabbed the railing with her frozen limbs and hauled herself into the seat clumsily.
It was already winter, and the temperature had dropped to around ten degrees.
She only wore a thin sweater out when she went out at noon. The sweater was not wind-resistant, so when the buggy started to move, Elena sneezed repeatedly.
Michael leaned on the seat with his eyes closed; he did not pay any attention to her.
Elena did not expect him to worry about her anyway. She sat on the other side of the cart and tried her best to sneeze quietly so that it would not bother him.
When they were back at WongRiver Pavilion, Levi told the butler to prepare dinner as soon as he got in the door.
As Michael sat down at the dining table, Elena sat down as well. She took her bowl of rice and started to eat quickly. It was not because she was hungry; it was because of the cold!
After she drank a bowl of warm soup, she finally found warmth in her body.
She could finally talk.
“I found dried water weed fiber next to the lake in the backyard. They were tough, not easy to break. If they were gathered together, it would be pretty hard to break through them. The weed is also transparent under the sunlight when they are not dried up. If you didn’t notice it, you wouldn’t see it at all.” That was why she had not seen them that day!
Michael held his chopsticks and quietly ate his dinner.
Levi wanted to ask a question, but it would be rude for him to talk if Eldest Young Master Williams did not speak.
Elena was not one to give up so easily. She looked at Michael with confidence on her face.
“Eldest Young Master Williams, the old madam’s drowning was definitely not an accident! I believe that somebody tied these water weeds around her wheelchair and then pulled her into the lake!”
Still, Michael’s face did not change. It seemed like her words had meant nothing to him.
Elena put down her bowl, clenched her fists, and said, “Eldest Young Master Williams, if we could dig the filled-lake, I believe we would discover some secrets in the lake!”
