Second Young Master Sharp had arrived. All the three girls froze, and the noisy office area suddenly became quiet.
For some reason, Elena had never felt anything like that before. When she saw him there, her face got warmer, and she felt a little uncomfortable.
“Why are you all so quiet?” Henry walked toward the three girls.
Layla bit her fingers and immediately recalled what she had just said.
Suddenly, her eyes lit up. “So, Second Young Master Sharp, do you admit that you’re in a relationship?”
Henry did not say anything. His delighted gaze was locked onto Elena’s face. “She’s pregnant with my baby. Could I still deny it? I don’t want to be accused of being a scumbag.”
“What are you talking about? Didn’t I just help you with your little problem?” Elena blushed even harder.
She glared at him, but she was nervous. “How did it go? Have you discussed it with CEO Berry already? Why did it end so soon? Did he cause trouble for you?”
“They’d get great benefits if they cooperate with Sharp Corporation. Why won’t they agree?”
“Then you…”
“CEO Berry had something urgent to do so he had to leave, but Ashton and their general manager are revising the contract. You can consider this project finalized.”
Henry’s modesty, combined with the massive amount of money funneled into that project, scored a couple of extra points for his majestic demeanor! Rich men always had certain intrinsic charms.
A man who was rich, handsome, had a good figure, and also exceptional temperament would be considered unparalleled in terms of desirability. Even Layla and Lois were affected by his magnetic appeal, so much that they could not snap out of it.
Elena patted both their heads lightly. She almost rolled her eyes at them.
“Can you guys behave appropriately?”
“When have we ever been improper?” Layla held her head high and glared at Elena. “We’re only doing a double-take. Why are you so sour about it?”
“Why are you looking at him? Elena has stamped her ownership on him. You’re not allowed to look!” Lois hissed.
“As if you didn’t look?” Had she not looked at the man as well?
Lois blushed and declined to comment on that. Everyone loved to see beautiful people. It would be such a waste not to ogle at such an attractive man.
“Also, Second Young Master Sharp, last night’s dinner was to celebrate our show’s ratings. It has nothing to do with your relationship!”
“That’s right, it’s a rule for those in a relationship to treat others to a meal. You can’t skimp on this.”
“Really?” Henry’s eyes locked onto Elena.
Elena rolled her eyes at him. “Don’t listen to their crap.”
“Are you that reluctant to spend your man’s money? Elena, I never expected you to be this kind of person! You hiberdater!”
“Yeah, you’re a hiberdater, Elena, I no longer want to be your friend!” Layla put her hand on her waist angrily.
“Yes, that’s me. What are you going to do about it?” Elena was unwilling to admit defeat. She pointed at them. “You tricked him yesterday for no reason at all, and now you still want to continue doing that?”
“How else should he spend his hard-earned money? It’s not like our money falls from the sky!”
“Elena, you’re already taking your man’s side! This is too much.”
“Yeah, are we even friends?”
The two girls stood on the same wavelength and went on the offensive against Elena.
Elena decided to stand her ground in front of Henry.
“I’m not helping anyone. You can’t just rip him off like this!”
“Miser!” Layla scolded.
Elena retorted, “Yes, I’m a miser. So what?”
Lois looked disappointed. “It’s not like you’re spending your own money!”
Elena said matter-of-factly, “What’s his is mine!”
The whole world seemed to have fallen quiet for a moment.
The three women had exchanged angry words with each other, but after Elena said that, everyone immediately shut up.
What did Elena say? She seemed to have forgotten what she had said too.
What was his… was hers? Did she not just admit to a secret relationship with Henry?
“No, I don’t mean that, I …”
Suddenly, the man hugged her gently from behind. He lowered his head, buried his face in her neck as he smiled softly. It seemed as if he wanted to continue to spoil her rotten.
“Hmm, yes, what’s mine is yours.”
…
Something was clearly not right with the atmosphere that night. It was hard to pinpoint what was off; only the atmosphere was odd as if something had lurked in their minds.
Henry remained the same. When he reached home, he changed his clothes, washed his hands, and then began to prepare some soup.
During Elena’s ‘confinement’ month, Second Young Master Sharp went from a rookie cook to a skilled chef. He made three dishes and one soup every night. Not only did they look good, but they were also delicious, and most of them were Elena’s favorite food.
He knew how to cook different types of soup that were beneficial for her health, and they tasted even more delicious than a maternity matron ‘s cooking. He learned all the recipes from the Internet. His skills had progressed like lightning speed.
After Elena changed into her home clothes, she went to the kitchen and helped Henry like she always did. A second after she had placed the vegetables into the colander to wash them, Henry stopped her. “The doctor said not to touch cold water. Just leave it there.”
Henry had always treated the doctor’s words as a decree whenever it concerned Elena.
“The doctor said that your stomach isn’t well, and you’ll have to eat on time. Why do you always forget to eat when you work overtime?”
Elena pouted. That man had such double standards! Why did he not apply the doctor’s advice for himself as well?
“I do eat on time.” Henry smiled as he snatched the colander from her hand.
“If you’re bored, just go and watch some TV. Wait for an hour or so. I’ll be quick.”
“TV is so boring.”
“Does that mean you’re not bored of looking at me?” He smiled. “Looks like it really is because I’m too handsome.”
Elena was speechless when she heard that. When had that man become so narcissistic?
Their routine remained the same every day for more than a month. He got busy in the kitchen while she stood to watch from the side, though she would steal a bite or two on some occasions.
Her days went by rather mundanely, but amongst that, the mundaneness was an inexplicable feeling of ease and tranquility. At times, Elena felt as if it was quite a good life. She did not need any other excitement in her life. She wanted peace, tranquility, and warmth in her life.
After dinner, Elena returned to her room. She pondered the idea that she had had since her confinement period started. Should she move back to her apartment?
After all, it was not her place, and they did not have any relationship between them. She felt that it was improper for her to remain there. Elena wondered why she would think that. How could she think about a justification for their relationship?
They were just friends. Did she need to overthink it?
As she was about to leave her room, she turned around and saw a lanky figure at her door. Elena was surprised to see him, but her instinct was to look away and avoid his eyes.
Henry looked serious, and his aura seemed rather solemn too. “Elena, there’s something that I wanted to talk to you about.”
