Henry stopped Dylan’s car halfway down the slope.
“I’ll take her home.” Henry got out of the car and went to meet Elena.
Henry was in his white shirt, and it made Dylan feel bad for his scruffy look. He had not taken care of himself for the past two days.
“Elena…” Dylan looked at Elena, who was about to get out of the car. He wanted to say something, but he decided to hold his tongue.
He wanted to send her home, but he was afraid that she would hate him if he insisted.
“I have to go back to the office in Sharp Corporation. I still have work to do. It is much more convenient to hitch a ride in Second Young Master Sharp’s car.”
Elena glanced back at him. Even though Second Young Master Williams was a changed man, it was still difficult to change her feelings toward him overnight. Dylan knew that she hated him because of what he had done to her. He had been very mean to her.
He had no idea how to make up to her so that she would change her mind about him. When Elena got out of the car, he immediately got down from the other side and walked toward Elena.
“Is there anything else you needed?”
“Can I… Can I still see you?” He was cautious, but he was not willing to let the chance slip through his fingers.
Elena glanced at Henry and said, “I’d like to speak to Second Young Master Williams.”
Henry pursed his thin lips, nodded, and returned to his car to wait for her. Suddenly, Dylan felt as if he had butterflies in his stomach. Was she about to refuse him? Or was she willing to give him a chance?
Before Elena could say anything, he blurted, “I will change! I really will change! Please believe me!”
“Whether you change yourself or not has nothing to do with me.”
Even though it would hurt him, she believed that deception and lies were the bigger evil. Since she had no intention to lie to him, she might as well tell him the truth.
“I came to see you tonight because your mother made a deal with me.”
“A deal?” Dylan’s heart quivered; he was flustered.
“Yes, she promised to fulfill some of my requests, and in return, I promised her to see you.”
Elena’s frank words buzzed through Dylan’s head. He was torn when he heard it. He looked up at the cloudless sky, and the stars were sparse and scattered. When those things reflected in his eyes, he felt a sense of loneliness that haunted his heart.
“What did you promise her?” he asked.
“I agreed to accompany you for dinner every day.”
“Until when?” He trusted her. He knew that when she said she would try, she would definitely make it happen if she could.
Elena looked at him and answered after two seconds of hesitation, “Seven days.”
Dylan took a deep breath and looked downward. Then he focused his attention on her.
“One week. Perhaps there is still a chance to change your view toward me.”
He smiled. For the first time in his life, he realized how much his mother loved him. He did not ask what Elena would get in return; he did not want to know. Everyone had their own little secret; there was no need for him to ask about that.
“Alright, I will pick you up from university tomorrow.” He smiled, and he was extremely relaxed.
“Go home, and rest early.”
Dylan took the initiative to open the door for Elena.
Before Elena got into the car, she reminded Dylan, “I won’t promise to be your girlfriend.” It might be cruel, but it was realistic.
“You should be grateful for having such a good mother. Your mother will try her best to satisfy your needs and wants. She really loves you.”
However, no one could tell whether it was good or bad for Dylan to be so spoilt. He was arrogant and domineering because of Sarah. Every mischievous kid had awful parents, and loving mothers would always lead to useless children. It appeared that there was some truth to that saying.
“I hope you can spend your time with your mother. There will be countless women who’d want to have fun with you, but you will only have one mother who will love you unconditionally.”
Elena got into the car and closed the door. Without another word, Henry stepped on the accelerator and sped away. Elena looked out of the window at the night scene that flew past the window. Her heart soured.
No matter what other people thought about Sarah, she was a loving mother. Elena was envious of Dylan. She also wanted to have a mother who would stay by her side. When she grew older, she would want the chance to protect her mother. Unfortunately, she had no opportunity to do that.
She thought of her mother, and suddenly, some images flashed in her mind. Her eyebrows furrowed, and she tried hard to recall those memories! Eventually, those images became clearer.
“Elena, you have been treated unfairly, and when the old master comes back in the morning, I will explain to him in person.
“Elena, there is one thing that I am not sure if your mother had ever mentioned to you.”
“Grandmother, do you know my mother?”
“Of course, I know her. You look exactly like your mother. When I saw you last night, I almost thought that…
“Elena, your mother, she… she is actually my…”
Her mother? Her mother and the old madam? Who was her mother to the old madam? Why did she care about Elena so much, even in her past life? A long time ago, when the old madam saw her for the first time at Williams’s mansion, she told Elena that she had to be with Eldest Young Master Williams, and he was the only person who could protect her. Why was the old madam so concerned about her future? What had it got to do with her mother? It seemed like her mother was the central point in that matter…
Elena took out her mobile phone and sent Caleb a message. [Can you investigate things that happened eighteen years ago?]
Caleb was quick to reply to her. [It depends on what you want to find out. The Internet was not so developed eighteen years ago, so there might not be information about that.]
[Caleb, please help me to investigate my mother, Talia.]
After she put down her phone, Elena turned her head to see that Henry had stared at her.
She was a little uneasy. “Why are you looking at me?”
“You’re so beautiful that I had to look twice.” Henry averted his eyes to look at the road ahead.
“Do you really want to go back to Sharp Corporation?”
“I don’t know where to go.” Everyone had been busy. If she were to go back to the dormitory, she would be left alone. It was better to be at the office and help out as much as she could.
“We plan to launch two comics this year, ‘My Mysterious Husband’, and ‘The Whirlwind Goddess’. Aryan is already drafting the design for the characters, and I should keep up with my script writing progress.”
“Are you reporting work progress to me?” Henry smiled faintly. He thought that they were friends at that hour.
“No, I was just talking to you. Can’t friends talk about work?”
When she woke up from her coma and learned that he was the one who had been by her side, Elena had already treated him as a genuine friend. Finally, she saw the joy in Henry’s smile, but his lips froze as he peeked at the rearview mirror.
“Woman, hold on tight.”
“Why?” Even though she did not know what happened, Elena obeyed and caught the safety handle beside her head.
“Nothing. I just feel like racing.”
Henry peered at the rearview mirror again, and he saw a low-profile car behind. Without any warning, he stepped on the accelerator and his car zoomed forward like an arrow…
