Chapter 246 Are You Afraid That I’ll Hurt You?

Book:The Reborn Wife Published:2024-5-1

The old lady’s heart quivered, and her breathing labored. She thought that as soon as Michael answered the call, she could ask him to go to her room. Things would be better if her grandson were around. However, she forgot that Elena had just left the mansion. She was not sure if Ava had any other accomplices. She was convinced that someone powerful from the Williams family must have joined forces with her!
“Grandmother?” The call was connected, and Michael’s voice came over from the other end of the line. “Why are you still up?”
The old lady did not speak; she squeezed her phone tightly and looked at Ava. Had that bloody old lady figured out the truth when she saw Elena’s real appearance? Fortunately, Ava had backup plans. Otherwise, things would have gotten out of hand that night.
“Grandmother?” Michael frowned. He was anxious as he did not get a response from the old madam.
“Grandmother, are you feeling alright? I’ll come over right now.”
“No need.” The old madam sounded very calm.
After she saw the confident smile on Ava’s face, she lowered her gaze and said, “Michael, I want you to promise me something.”
“What is it?” Michael was worried.
He had just gotten home and was ready to shower and rest. As he listened to the old madam on the phone, he put on his thin coat and walked out of his room.
“Michael, do you remember when I told you about the person that I hold dear to my heart?”
“Grandmother, are you talking about Ava?”
Ava sat in front of the old madam, so she could hear the whole conversation.
The old madam did not answer Michael. Instead, she said, “She is my only blood relative. Michael, promise me that you will stay by her side, marry her, and protect her with your life. I beg you.”
Michael did not say anything, and Ava was nervous about his silence. She looked at the old madam and suggested that she should keep the conversation going. However, the old lady did not dare to make another sound.
Finally, the old madam sighed before she said, “Michael, please protect my granddaughter. Don’t ever hurt her. Please promise me that.”
“Very well.” Michael thought that he should be able to do that. He walked out of the WongRiver Pavilion and into the wind. “Grandmother, I’m on my way now.”
Ava shook her head at the old madam, and the old madam did not say anything. If Michael were there, then Ava would no longer be a threat. However, what about Elena? It was already late at night, and if Ava sent someone after her, there was no guarantee for her safety. She wanted Elena to be safe!
“Michael, there’s no need to come here. I’m already in bed.”
Michael stopped in his tracks and checked out the time on his watch. It was almost eleven; it was late, indeed!
“Are you sure you don’t want me to come over?” He thought that his grandmother sounded strange that night as if something was not right.
“No need.” The old madam peeked at Ava, and suddenly said, “Elena came by earlier, and I told her to live a good life.”
Ava’s face sank. Why did the old madam have to mention that b*tch? Fortunately, there was nothing wrong with what the old madam had said. If she dared to continue with nonsense, then her precious granddaughter would suffer an awful death!
“She was here?” Michael frowned, “What was she doing here?”
“I asked her to come. I was hoping that she would calm down and live her own life peacefully.”
“Grandmother, she is doing very well now. You don’t need to worry about her.”
“I know, it’s just… You guys were engaged before this. Why don’t you send her off since she was nice enough to visit me.”
Ava had had enough of that conversation. The old madam had tip-toed beyond her bottom line.
Ava’s face was completely ashen. However, she was quite happy with Michael’s next words.
“If she could come here by herself, then she could definitely leave on her own. There’s no need to worry about her, Grandmother. You should rest early.”
The old madam was a little disappointed and wanted to say more about that, but she hesitated when she saw Ava take her phone, and it looked as if she wanted to send a message. The old madam was anxious about that, and so she hastily said, “I am going to rest now. Remember what you promised me, protect my granddaughter with your life!”
The old lady immediately cut off the line and stared at Ava. “Elena had left, Michael would not be chasing after her, you don’t have to…”
“Grandmother, why are you so scared? Do you think that I would hurt you? Or that I would hurt Elena?”
“Why would you hurt me? I’m your grandmother.”
“Really?” Ava snatched the old madam’s mobile phone; her face was gloomy.
“Grandmother, it’s late. Let me help you to bed.”
She stood up and supported the old madam clumsily. They moved away from the wheelchair and got to the side of the bed. Ava then shoved the old madam onto the bed.
“Ava…” The old madam fell onto the bed with a loud thud. Half of her body almost went numb because of the momentum.
“If you want Elena to be safe, then go to bed early.” Ava stared at her.
It was apparent that Ava knew she had discovered their scam. The old madam squeezed her fists tightly. There was nothing she could do because she might have people all over the place. There was no one she could trust.
“Ava!”
“What’s wrong, Grandmother? Why don’t you call me Ava?”
The old madam said nothing. She was sprawled on the bed, so her own bodyweight had made her feel uncomfortable. She could not turn around because of her weak legs.
It was painful to lie on the bed like that! She cursed her own stupidity for putting herself in that situation.
Michael was not even willing to see Elena off. It must have been because of the promise that he made to her. She had made a terrible mistake, and Elena would have to suffer because of that. She did not know what to do. Ava did not seem as if she would leave the room that night. She sat on a chair and continued to watch the old madam.
After a while, the old madam could not take it anymore, so she called out for help. “Ava, I am really uncomfortable, please help me to turn over.”
“Grandmother, you should try to roll over yourself. The doctor said that you should do as much as you can, as it’s good for your health.”
Ava took out her phone and sent a message to someone. [The old madam might have found out that she had been deceived.]
The old madam was in an awkward position, with her back toward Ava. Obviously, Ava did not want her to turn around. However, Ava knew it was not feasible to keep an eye on the old madam every night. Eldest Young Master Williams and the old master would visit her eventually.
Ava was at a loss. She knew that she could not hide the matter for long. She stared at the message that she sent, and wondered why the other party had not replied. Ava was very anxious. She had dared to show her real intentions in front of the old madam, but she did not want to do the same to the old master or Michael.
Morning would break in about seven hours.
