Chapter 217 You’re My Fiancée

Book:The Reborn Wife Published:2024-5-1

What surprised Elena was that Michael glanced at the caller ID on the screen and then dropped his mobile phone. He had refused to answer the call. When Eldest Young Master Williams did not answer the call, his action had comforted Elena. Even though she had never admitted it, she was jealous of Ava, and she did care about little things like that.
“How is Grandmother’s health?” Elena was in a good mood, so she was willing to start a conversation with him.
“If you want to know, why don’t you go see her?” Michael snorted.
Elena glanced at him. She should not have done that, but her heart leaped crazily. Michael looked so hot with his messy hairstyle after a couple of drinks. The alcohol smell from his breath and his flushed face was too alluring. His manly movements sent Elena bat-shit crazy. She had to tell herself to stop looking at him. Stop looking! She quickly drew back her gaze. She should have known better than to look at him.
“I’ll go see her later.”
“Are you sure?” Michael raised an eyebrow. What time would it be when they arrived at home?
If she visited the old madam at that hour, she would disrupt her rest. Elena seemed to have only recalled that it was already late at night.
“Oh…”
Suddenly, Michael’s mobile phone rang again. It was Ava again; Elena saw her name on the caller ID.
He was obviously a little impatient as he frowned and turned off his mobile phone. Elena pretended that she did not notice it. She turned to look at the scenery outside the window. Her eyes shone brightly.
Without any warning, she saw Michael’s intense eyes stared back at her from the reflection on the car window. Her heart pumped faster, and her breathing quickened. She was embarrassed, so she immediately looked down to avoid his gaze. She was also afraid to look out of the window. Why was he staring at her?
“Come here,” he suddenly said.
Elena was stunned. She looked at him. “Why?”
Michael did not reply. He merely reached out and dragged her toward him.
The spacious backseat’s temperature rose several degrees as if it had foreshadowed that something unusual would happen later. Elena’s breathing was chaotic; she had no idea what Eldest Young Master Williams meant. She placed her hands on his chest and pushed him gently as if that could widen the distance between them. Her face was flushed red.
“Eldest Young Master Williams, what’s the matter?”
Why did he pull her closer without any warning? Was there a need to be so close to each other while they talked?
“Are you avoiding me?” He frowned, unhappy that she had resisted him.
“No.” Elena replied stubbornly. Why should she avoid him?
“Then, why are you struggling?” Michael tightened his arms, and her petite body fell into his embrace.
Elena was confused. How would struggle mean avoidance? She had fallen into his embrace without any warning. Would she not struggle under such unexpected circumstances?
“I…” The next second, she kept her mouth shut. It was because she could feel the ghastly chilliness that exuded from his body.
“Were there any other men who had hugged you like this?”
After a few days of restraint, his anger suddenly erupted like a volcano. He held her tightly and put her in his laps; he had left no room for her to resist. Elena flinched subconsciously as she panicked. He was still angry that she did not choose him during the day. He looked like a dignified, proud, and haughty man, but in fact, he was a petty person!
“No.” Probably no other men except when she was just a baby.
The cold air around him finally eased, but he was still disgruntled.
“You are Michael’s fiancée!” That fact had not changed!
“Eldest Young Master Williams, you promised not to interfere with my private life.”
The studio was her own business. Even if she decided to cooperate with Sharp Corporation, the decision did not affect their ‘unmarried couple relationship’, right? She did not do unspeakable things with other men to damage his reputation. He was just upset that a girl would dare to turn him down. To put it bluntly, he was a conceited male chauvinist?
“You knew exactly how to spark my anger!” Michael narrowed his eyes.
He did make that promise, but times had changed. Since he was the one who said that, he was also entitled to revoke it!
“Eldest Young Master Williams, I just wanted to do my own business seriously. I did nothing wrong.”
She read the message in his eyes. He wanted her to know that if he wanted to, he could destroy everything that she had. It was useless to talk sense into men because they were unreasonable savages! He stared at her, but she did not feel any warmth in those stares. Instead, she felt like she was about to catch fire. If it were any other women, they would probably have submitted to him by then. However, she was not any other woman; she was Elena!
She would probably not have anything to do with Eldest Young Master Williams in less than two years. She never thought to get any compensation from either Williams Corporation or his Century Corporation.
She also remembered that Michael had wanted to dissolve their engagement in her previous life. Not long after their commitment, Michael negotiated the conditions with her. He would give her ten percent of Century Corporation’s shares as compensation for her losses even though Elena knew that she did not worth that much money.
However, Grandmother had insisted that they stayed together. When Grandmother was on her deathbed, she wanted Eldest Young Master Williams to promise her that he would marry Elena. That was why they finally got married two years after the engagement. They never spoke about divorce after that. The only time the topic was brought up was before Elena’s death, and she was the one who had mentioned it. That plot had ended with Ava’s laughter when she got someone to kill Elena in a road accident. Elena vowed never to let that tragedy repeat itself, so she had to stand up on her own feet.
“Eldest Young Master Williams, I know you are not happy. I also knew that you have no interest in the animation business.”
It was a waste of his time to spend even one second in managing such a small animation business. In fact, Elena did not understand why Eldest Young Master Williams would want to spend time as a judge at the event and even fought for her team against Sharp Corporation. Was it because he liked her? No! She should stop being vain. Had she not suffered enough in her previous life?
Elena never thought that Michael would like her. She felt that he was just angry that someone had encroached on his property. Yes, she was probably a property, a possession to him. He was upset that someone touched his belonging; property that belonged to a male chauvinist. How oppressive!
“Actually, I also know that Second Young Master Sharp was not interested in the animation business either, but the staff that he brought in were all professionals, and he really did allocate money to set up the business.”
Since Second Young Master Sharp became the co-organizer for the competition, the rules, the topics, and even the entire process and flow of the competition were considered up-to-standard. It showed that Sharp Corporation was serious in the business.
“Eldest Young Master Williams, I know that as long as you want to do it, your animation company would undoubtedly be the best in the industry.
“But I don’t want people to think that my studio achieved success because of my identity. Our team is strong… you… What are you doing?”
He had bowed his head down low. Why did he lean in so close to her face?
