“These flowers…” Elena looked at the big bunch of roses in the maid’s hand. For some reason, her heart skipped a beat.
Why was there something so lovey-dovey in Michael’s villa?
Levi immediately said, “These were the roses that the young master had chosen last night. It arrived by air this morning.”
“He picked them?” Elena was momentarily stunned. She could not believe it!
The thought of Michael with his mobile phone while he stared at a bunch of roses on the screen as he selected them carefully. How unbelievable!
How could Master Williams do such a trivial thing?
Levi quickly said, “Last night, Eldest Young Master and Young Madam seemed to have hit a hard spot. Eldest Young Master was still a little angry when he went back, but it didn’t take long for him to calm down.”
Eldest Young Master was partly at fault for what had happened the previous night.
“Eldest Young Master had chosen these roses himself, but when they were delivered this morning, it seemed like the two of you were at odds again. The young master made me throw them away when he was angry.”
Levi explained hurriedly so that there was no misunderstanding. “Young Master probably wanted me to throw it away because he was angry with Young Madam. I left at the side of the hall as I didn’t have time to deal with it.”
Elena could not describe what she felt at that moment.
She had never seen Michael send flowers to anyone, let alone to choose them himself.
It turned out that he had wanted to make peace with her after their silent treatment toward each other the night before.
He had reminded her to drink the milk in the morning, and it was not an unreasonable request. Milk was beneficial for her too.
“In that case, these flowers, Mr. White…”
“There’s no need to throw them!” Elena immediately took the flowers from the maid’s hands.
She felt wholesome when she looked at the bright red roses. She felt as if she had been blessed.
She thought it was amazing to have received flowers from Master Williams. He was a cold-hearted man who never understood what love was, yet he was willing to give her flowers.
The sadness and the misfortunes she experienced made her eyes warm. Tears nearly flowed from the corner of her eyes.
As she looked at the flowers in her own arms, she felt as though she was in a dream.
The maid wanted to say something, but Levi waved his hand and sent the maid on her way.
“Master Williams is upstairs,” Levi reminded her.
When Elena finally snapped out of it, there was no one else in the hall except herself.
Michael was upstairs.
Both her legs seemed to have taken a mind of their own and brought her straight upstairs.
Michael was inside the room, and it looked as if he was busy with work.
When Elena entered the room, his fingers were still on the keyboard, and she had no clue on what he worked on.
Since the door was opened, Elena walked directly into the room.
As soon as she entered, she was rather taken aback to hear his indifferent voice said, “Did no one teach you to knock before entering?”
Elena froze and stared at his handsomely-cold side profile.
Would it kill him to tone down his arrogance?
She exhaled before she backed out of the room, then raised her hand and knocked on the door.
It was then that Michael gave her a brief glance. He was surprised to see her with a large bouquet of roses.
Uneasiness immediately appeared in his ever-frosty face.
Throughout the twenty-seven years of his life, he never once gave anyone flowers!
He turned around again and pretended not to have seen anything. His words remained frigid. “What business do you have with me?”
“Do I need a reason to come see you?”
She went in and set the roses aside. Then, she took her seat on the chair and stared at his tall back.
Michael kept quiet as if he ignored her.
Elena was silent for a moment, then stood up abruptly and went behind him.
“If Century Group’s trade secrets are leaked, it’ll be a minimum of ten years’ jail time,” he said coldly.
Elena frowned, retracted her curious gaze, and then glared at his face. “I didn’t read a word!”
How ridiculous! She only wanted to make peace with him, but he was so indifferent that she felt quite embarrassed.
Still, a hasty retreat was not her style at all.
If one were to consider everything carefully, Master Williams did not do anything terrible to Elena. All he did was protect her.
He had saved her without any regard for his own safety. That alone was enough to move one’s emotions significantly.
Heroes would always save the damsel in distress. If they were in an ancient era, they would have to devote their lives to each other.
Elena’s ears reddened as a few scenes floated in her mind.
She curbed her wavering thoughts and whispered, “Well, I… I came here because I wanted to tell you… Thank you.”
“Hmm?” Did she not already express her gratitude in the car?
She knew that Master Williams abhorred the phrase ‘Thank You.’
She bit her lip and hesitated for a while before she spoke again. Her voice was even lower when she said, “I’m sorry…”
“What did you say? I can’t hear you.” The man’s slender fingers leaped all over the keyboard, and it made an awe-inspiring sight.
His attitude, however, was a bit too frigid.
Elena struggled to build her bravery. After she received a few tactful rejections, she began to feel a bit discouraged.
She took a deep breath and repeated, “I said… I’m sorry.”
The man did not respond to that at all, and she seemed to be talking to the air.
One second, two seconds, three seconds… then ten seconds. He still did not respond to her.
No one could bear with his coldness no matter how strong their heart was.
She bit her lip. “It’s fine, I’ll be going.”
She turned around and was ready to leave.
Just as she was about to take her first step, she felt something tightened on her wrists and was pulled back abruptly.
He nearly scared the girl to her death. In a blink of an eye, he managed to press her onto the bookcase.
“What are you apologizing for?” He lowered his head and allowed his unique breaths to land on Elena’s small face.
It was an equal part of hot and itchiness. It was not something she could describe.
Elena knew that she had to be careful as they stood so close to each other. Everything had happened so fast.
“Hmm?” The man’s voice echoed in her ears. The mesmerizing and seductive sound weakened her whole body.
“What did you say…?” What did he ask her? It only took a few swift movements from him to make her forget everything.
Michael suddenly lowered his head, and Elena was so scared that she looked away.
Why did it seem as though he would kiss her? Had he not been willing to listen to her earlier?
Such a massive change in mood nearly scared her to death.
“I shouldn’t have lost my temper with you last night. Actually… Actually, I’m just a little disappointed…”
Whatever it was, it seemed like they had wanted to save each other.
If she had not been an idiot, she would understand that Master Williams bore no ill will toward her. He had been very kind to her too.
It was her own disappointment that led her to believe that he had a part in plotting against her.
When he took the initiative to talk to her the previous night, he was also guilty of saying hurtful things to her.
However, if he really did scheme against her, why would he risk the cancellation of the engagement banquet just to accompany in her quest to find her friend?
The Williams family’s engagement party was definitely a significant event in Bentson City. One could not simply cancel it.
If a simple engagement banquet had to be reorganized time and time again, then the reputation they had accumulated over the years would be damaged.
As the eldest young master of the Williams family, he could not just ignore all of that.
In short, Michael’s actions had not been intentional.
Everyone had a secret that he or she would never reveal. His desire to protect that person did not automatically signify that he was hostile toward her.
“I…”
“I was wrong too.” Master Williams’s voice was faint, but it had never been as soft as it was then.
“There are things that I can’t tell you, but I promise you, I have no intention of hurting you.”
