“Haven’t you heard of the saying that there is no story without coincidence? Even if I said something like that, you should have asked me calmly. Without solid evidence, why did you yell at me?!”
Bella struggled out of his hug and was about to leave. But Kevin wouldn’t let her go this time, stepping forward and stop her, “where are you going this time?”
“It’s none of your business.”
“Come home with me.”
“No!”
“Please come home with me.”
“No way.”
“You sure?” Kevin raised his eyebrows, “If you insist on not coming home with me, then I’ll just leave. You know, I’m not a good-tempered person.”
Bella was even more irritated after hearing his threatening words. She stepped on his foot hard, “Get lost. I don’t care about a husband who doesn’t believe me!”
Kevin was quite mad so he nodded, “Good, I don’t want a wife who runs away from home from time to time!”
They both turned around and walked in opposite direction. Only after few steps, Kevin turned and hugged her from behind, “No, I think I can’t live without you. My life would be meaningless without you…”
What a psychopath. Last second, he said he didn’t want a wife who ran away from home, later he hugged her and said the life without her was meaningless. Bella struggled for a bit, “My brain was not as developed as you think, so please don’t say those self-contradictory words.”
“Honey, I’m sorry, please come home with me, please? We can talk after you come back. You made the call that whether I kneel on the garment-rubbing board or squat at the corner.”
“If you want me to come back, you have to change your name and craw around earth first.
Kevin found it was both funny and annoyed, “Haven’t I already taken back that words?”
“You think you can say what you want and take it back as you please? Don’t you know that the words you said is like the water you spill, it’s impossible to retrieve it?”
Bella still didn’t want to come back with him. They were pulling and pushing each other in front of a cinema, which attacked lots of people’s attention. Kevin felt abashed and said in a low voice, “If you still don’t want to go, I won’t hold your hands and grow old with you.”
“What do you want? Say goodbye and we go separated thereafter?”
“I want to…” He held her hand, “Hold your hand and drag you away.”
Bella was dragged by him to the car. He circled her in the center of the car and let out a long sigh of relief, “Finally we don’t have to be watched like the chimpanzee by a bunch of obnoxious tourists.”
“I’ll hate you for life because of the savage way you treat me.”
“That’s fine, you hate me for life and I’ll love you for life.”
He hugged her with a hand moving to her abdomen, “Let’s stop quarreling, shall we? Our kid would laugh at us.”
Once mentioning the kid, Bella’s heart softened. Kevin continued, “Honey, if you don’t want to go home now, then let’s watch a movie together? It seems that we never watch a movie together.”
“Don’t you say movies are for those who have nothing to do? You are a man who is doing great things, I’m out of your league.’
“Look what you said, it was all because you watched a movie with Quitin last time and goaded me. I was being sarcastic, couldn’t you tell?”
“I only understand logical talking.”
Kevin rubbed his chest, “Ok, I’ll take back this sentence and the one I said I would change my name. I will watch a movie with you frequently and give you the love of ordinary people.”
“Barbecue at the night market after we watch a movie?”
“Ok, no problem.”
Now Bella cooled down and they walked into the cinema joyfully.
The cinema was screening a romance film Never Get Tired Of Kissing You. It included lots of kissing scenes. Bella looked around and found that the majority of the audience were couples.
The one sitting in front of them was a young couple at an impulsive and passionate age. When they saw the kissing scene, they were kissing, too.
Bella felt very embarrassed as if watching porn.
She looked askance at Kevin, who was very composed. She then leaned over and asked, “Is it because you have watched this kind of film often that you don’t feel embarrassed when seeing the kissing scene now?”
Kevin looked at her and said gently, “No, the last time I came to a cinema was 7 years old. So you don’t have to worry about it.”
Bella kept her eyes out of shock. This man was such a weirdo, who never watched a movie. He must come from Mars.
The couple in front of them kept making out and sometimes even groaning out of enjoyment. Bella really wanted to warn them that this was a public place. But she was afraid that Kevin would think she was meddling with other’s business, so she refrained her dissatisfaction.
Finally, the movie was over. She let out a long relief and swore that she would never watch a movie at the cinema.
Kevin drove her to have a barbecue. On the city’s night, there was always somewhere more buzzing than the daylight. The noisy night market was full of all kinds of people. Kevin parked the car and held Bella’s hand to a Barbecue stand.
He asked for two bottles of beer and Bella sat beside him after she ordered food, “Do you remember when was the first time you took me there?”
Kevin thought about it, “Two years ago, no, three years ago, still no, maybe longer than that.”
“What we had last time?”
“Who remembers after so long.”
“Which seat we sat last time?”
Bella looked around. This place was not just barbecue, there were lots of stir-fry dishes. Suddenly her eyes were fixed on a position not far behind Kevin. She looked stunned.
“What’s wrong?”
Kevin sensed something unusual about her.
“Turn around and take a look, that person…Is it Freya?”
Kevin turned his head and his face went livid. That person was Freya, indeed. What a small world.
“Do you want to say hi to her?”
Bella stared hard at that woman who was about a hundred meters away, drowning her sorrow with alcohol.
“Why I want to say hi to her? Stay away from her.”
“But it seems that she saw us… ”
Kevin’s body was getting a bit stiff.
“She is walking to us…”
“Let’s go.”
Kevin abruptly stood up and was about to leave with his hand holding Bella’s. But it was too late. Freya came to them.
“Kevin, long time no see. Why do you leave as soon as you see me? I don’t’ have plague.”
Kevin didn’t speak and was reluctant to even look at her. He had long forgotten the beautiful puppy love with that woman and now he only had disgust against her.
Seeing that Kevin ignored her, she looked at Bella and saw her bulging abdomen, suddenly cracking a self-mockery laugh, “You guys are together finally and even have a baby right now.”
“Let’s go.” Kevin held Bella’s hand and was about to leave, the barbecue boss carried the barbecue and came over, “Sir, the barbecue is ready.”
“Please pack it up.”
He took two hundred dollars and threw it onto the table. With one hand carrying the barbecue and the other holding Bela, he walked quickly out of Freya’s sight.
The next morning, Alvin came to Kevin’s office with a gloomy face and questioned him unpleasantly, “Didi you tell it to Master White? He came to see me last night”
Kevin stunned for a second as he didn’t expect that Master White made moves so soon. Kevin was concerned that it would stir up conflict between Alvin and his sister, so he took all the blame to himself, “Yes.”
“Why did you do that? You promised me!”
“I’m sorry Alvin, I understand you but I hope you can try to get to know him better.”
Alvin remained silent for a long time. And eventually, he didn’t say anything and left.
Kevin knew that Alvin must feel frustrated and tried not to lose his temper. Kevin called her sister, “Alvin is in a bad mood, go keep him company.”
“What’s wrong?”
Lena asked in a submissive tone.
“You ask me what’s wrong? It’s because of the trouble you caused. I’ve admitted that I sent the anonymous letter, don’t spill the beans.”
Hanging up the phone, Lena drove out of home right away. She called Alvin and he said he was at home. So she was rushing to it.
At Alvin’s apartment, with the door open, she walked in and gently called, “Alvin…”
Nobody responded. There was some noise in the bedroom. She walked in and saw Alvin packing his luggage, “Where are you going?” She panicked.
“I want to travel and get some fresh air.”
“Where do you wanna go? I can come with you.”
“No, I wanna travel alone.”
“You want to avoid Master White, don’t you?”
Alvin’s body went stiff, he looked up and queried, “How did you know?”
“I did it. It was me who sent Master White an anonymous letter and told him that you are his son.”
“Why?” Alvin was holding back his anger but his eyes were flashing through rage. Yes, he couldn’t stand her acting on her own.
“That night you got drunk and told me all your secrets unconsciously. You said you hated that person but you longed for the love from family. As you were in paradox, I made the choice for you.”
“Who asked you to make the choice for me? Did you ask for my permission?”
“I just want you to get rid of the orphan label.”
Alvin sneered, “You said you don’t mind it, then why you want me to get rid of it. Actually, you do care about it!”
“No, I want you to enjoy the love of family that you never had before.”
Lena Jones-Sharp, you take yourself too seriously. You are not Mrs. Brien yet, so don’t do the things that you think you should do. Please consider my feeling, ok?”
He was about to leave and Lena took him from behind, “Alvin, don’t go. If you are angry about me, I apologize. I’m sorry, please don’t go.”
“Let go of me.”
His voice was as icy as the freezing day’s cube, which could freeze someone to death.
“No, I won’t let you go unless you allow me to come with you.”
Alvin shook off her arms circling around his waist and strode towards the outside.
Lena did not stand firmly on her heels and was thrown to the ground by the impulse of his hands. She burst into a cry, “Actually, I have another purpose, I don’t want others such as Nate who said you are an orphan. I don’t care how others talking about me, but I don’t allow others to talk about you like that…”
Alvin’s hand paused on the doorknob for a second and still decided to pull open the door and left.
His heart was in turmoil and frustration. Walking to his car in a low spirit, he floored the gas pedal and galloped to the airport. He bought the fastest flight to France but hesitated before boarding.
It occurred to him that the day when Nate humiliated him, Lena was more furious than him and poured the coffee onto Nate’s face. That girl had always stood up for him and never mind him being an orphan. He shouldn’t just leave her there. Thinking about this, he turned around and walked out of the airport.
When he went back, he drove in top gear and full speed. He parked the car in front of his apartment and gently walked in. As expected, that stubborn girl was still sitting on the floor.
Lena suddenly saw a pair of leather shoes in front of her. She raised her tearful eyes and registered surprise when seeing Alvin.
She looked delicate with tears all over her face, Alvin’s heart was tortured by it, both loving and hating her. He squatted and held her gently into his arms and sighed heavily, “You are my destiny.”
“Alvin, I knew you would come back. I knew you would not leave me alone…”
Lena leaned over his shoulder and cried out loud and Alvin’s heart was even more tender, “Alright, don’t cry. I’m angry about you anymore. I will try to get along with that person.”
She raised her head instantly and said in a heavy nasal voice, “This is not what I mean. I cry not to force you to recognize your father. I just feel happy that the man I love also loves me back. Because he loves me, he didn’t leave me alone.”
“Yes, because I love you, I didn’t leave you, and I even decided to put away my bias for you as long as you are happy.”
Alvin decided to try to recognize his father that he didn’t have any feelings for Lena. On his way back, he was thinking that what is love? Love wast just two people who loved each other, love was that you were willing to change yourself for the one you loved.
He was accustomed to being an orphan but he might not be used to the scene that when he and Lena walked on the street a few years later and suddenly heard that, “Look, Alvin’s wife was a girl born in wealthy family but she was stupid and married an orphan who didn’t even have parents.
