Kevin slowly looked at the woman in front of him and said word for word, “Because you are the representative of my partner.”
Bella’s hands suddenly dropped down. His few words, but she was so heartsick and smiled sadly, “Okay, I know.”
She turned her back, “You go.”
So Kevin walked away without looking back.
Another weekend, Quintin came to B city when the first phase of the new product development was a complete success, so they held a celebration banquet in a big hotel here in the evening.
On the way to the hotel, Quintin looked at Bella and said, “You have worked hard this time. I brought someone from the company and you can go back with me tomorrow.”
“No, anyway, I’ve already started and it’s too much trouble to get familiar with it all over again if you change someone.”
“But you don’t look well.”
“I have my period in these two days and I’ll be fine in a couple of days.”
“Really? If it doesn’t work, just tell me. You don’t need to insist.”
“It’s okay.”
Bella didn’t know why she suddenly didn’t want to leave B City, as obviously she was deeply hurt by Kevin’s indifferent attitude that night.
“Well then, if you want to go back, you can go back at any time, and the staff I brought over won’t be brought back just in case.”
“Okay.”
Bella nodded gently.
Arriving at the hotel, she and Quintin walked in side by side and as soon as she stepped into the front door of the banquet hall, her expression froze.
Kevin and a very beautifully dressed woman were laughing and chatting about something, the woman taking his arm, just like a pair of close lovers.
Bella’s heart was constantly sinking. He really didn’t care about her feelings at all. How could he take a woman to participate in such an occasion? Didn’t he know that she would definitely come to today’s celebration banquet?
Or was it because he just knew but he did it intentionally to prove that she was a mere partner to him?
Quintin walked up to Kevin and was chatting with him while Bella walked to a quiet corner, drinking bitter champagne alone.
The banquet officially began and all the people went to the table to sit down. Looking at a table full of food, Bella had no appetite but rather felt sick because the two people across from her made her sick.
“Mr. Jones-Sharp, after the banquet is over, shall we go horseback riding?”
“Good.”
“You have to sit behind me and hold me tightly, otherwise I will fall off the horse like the last time and couldn’t get out of bed for half a month.”
“Well, I won’t this time. Last time it was my fault, sorry.”
“It’s all right. It’s also my own fault. You have been so patient in teaching me, but I couldn’t learn.”
“Take your time.”
If it wasn’t for the little bit of sanity left to control her, she would have impulsively stood up and thrown the red wine onto their faces.
“Mr. Jones-Sharp is really gentle to women, not looking so cold at all …”
“That’s not necessarily true. Mr. Jones-Sharp is only gentle and considerate to the woman he loves. Not everyone woman is so lucky.”
The woman next to Kevin happily smiled, which deeply irritated Bella.
She turned around and leaned over to Quintin’s ear and asked, “Do you remember the last time I said I would consider accepting your feelings?”
“Of course, I remember, but have you thought about it?”
She nodded, “Yes.”
Quintin was very excited and he said nervously, “How do you think about it?”
Bella gazed at him and didn’t answer immediately. Seeing that she was about to stop talking, Quintin sighed in dismay, “Forget it, if you refuse, you don’t have to say anything.”
“I accept.”
The atmosphere suddenly froze, and more than a dozen people at the table looked at Bella concurrently when Quintin excitedly grabbed her hand, “Are you sure?”
“Yes!”
“Gosh, great! I’m so happy!”
Quintin couldn’t control his happiness, so he carried Bella in his arms and spun her around.
A gloom flashed in Kevin’s eyes. Once upon a time, he had also hugged Bella like this. But it was just a blink of an eye, she fell into someone else’s arms.
He was so heartbroken.
Drinking a glass of wine, he still felt the pain. She finally became scenery in someone’s eyes that no longer belonged to him.
After the banquet, Quintin sent Bella to her apartment, got off the car, and grabbed her hand, “Haley, I’m not dreaming, right? Are you really accepting my feelings?”
Bella calmly looked at him and slowly nodded, “Yes, I accepted you.”
He embraced her and said with mixed emotions, “I really don’t know how to describe my feelings at this moment. It’s like suddenly getting on a roller coaster and soaring into the clouds. Haley, how could you suddenly accept me? I really can’t believe it.”
Bella leaned on his shoulder and tears fell down, “I am also a human being with a heart. In the face of you who has always put me in your heart, I also have touched, so I am willing to accept you, give you the rest of my life, and let you take care of me.”
Quintin smiled happily, leaned down, and wanted to kiss Bella, but the moment his lips were about to fall, Bella looked away.
She said nervously, “Quintin, I’m sorry. You give me some time to get used to it. I’ve always been used to you being my boss, and I’m a bit uncomfortable with the sudden change in this superior-subordinate relationship.”
Quintin nodded, “I understand. I won’t force you and will let you be with me willingly.”
He kissed her forehead, “Rest early. I will return to F City tomorrow. When the work here is over, I will not let you leave me again.”
Bella said goodbye to him, turned into the apartment, closed the door, and cried bitterly. She made such a choice for a possible impulse but she didn’t regret it. Since Kevin could make out with other women in front of her, why did she still miss the feeling alone that was over?
The next morning she went to work, she met the last man she wanted to see. As the lift was slowly ascending, she did not speak, but Kevin left her a glance and faintly asked, “Quintin went back, right?”
“Yes.”
She nodded indifferently.
Then there was a few seconds of silence.
“Did you accept his feelings for you really loving him from the bottom of your heart, or for that you’re just angry with me?”
The lift stopped, and Bella turned around and answered him coldly, “Whether I really like him or not, that’s what you want, isn’t it?”
After saying that, she stepped out of the lift and left without looking back.
In the next few days, the relationship between Bella and Kevin became more distant. This evening, she worked overnight until midnight again. The R & D team leader yelled to Kevin treats, so a group of people came to the northeast cuisine restaurant again. Bella did not want to go but didn’t want Kevin to have that feeling of Bella afraid of him, so she went with him.
She didn’t wrong him, so she had no reason to avoid him, and it was he who should avoid her.
Halfway through the supper, Bella left early on the pretext that she was not feeling well, and it was cold and frosty outside. She put her hands in her coat pockets and was ready to walk back to her apartment.
After walking for less than five minutes, a car stopped in front of her and a strange young man said, “Miss, I am the agent driver. Get in the car.”
She was startled and confused, and said, “I didn’t call a cab, did I?”
“Someone has called for you. Come on up, it’s so cold.”
Bella got into the car in a daze and asked lamely, “Who called the cab for me?”
“I’m not sure about that. Someone made the call.”
She didn’t ask any more questions, or perhaps she already had an answer in mind.
After working overtime for four days in a row and finally not having to work overtime on Friday night, Bella went back to her apartment to have dinner after she got off work from the office, and then she changed her clothes and was ready to go out.
Today for others was just the most ordinary Friday of the week, but for her was a special day. Today was the anniversary of her mother’s death, so she didn’t want to stay alone.
When she came to the bar alone, she ordered a bottle of red wine, sat in a remote corner, and poured it into her mouth sadly.
At that time, a very nasty-looking man came over and said with an obscene voice, “Girl, are you alone?”
Bella left him with a disgusted glance, not bothering to speak to him.
“What’s the point of drinking by yourself? Let me drink with you.”
The man said and leaned closer to her, and she frowned, “No, leave me alone.”
“Wow, what are you shy about? I’m not a big bad wolf and will not eat you.”
The man grinned, showing two rows of big yellow teeth. Bella felt sick and quickly moved to the side, “Get away from me, disgusting.”
“What’s disgusting? It’s almost like being relieved. Come and let your brother take good care of you. You’re so lonely and isolated. You must have been dumped by a man, right?”
Bella stood up, picked up the bag, and was ready to leave when that man pounced on her to hold her, his stinky mouth straight to her face, “Don’t go. If you go, then I will be sad …”.
Good and bad people mixed in the bar and for some of the molesting incidents, everyone got used to them, so, seeing Bella struggling, no one came to stop.
“Get out of the way! Go to hell!”
When Bella kicked him with her leg, the man covered his genital and screamed. She turned to go, but the man grabbed her bag and dragged her back, “That’s exciting. I like a little excitement.”
“Let go of me!!”
Bella was struggling, and the bar’s foreman came to them, tapped the man on the shoulder, and said, “Hello, sir, someone is looking for you in box three and asked you to come over.”
The dirty man was stunned, “Looking for me? Who is it?”
