Bella had a smile on her face but she was grumbling, “Yeah, this fate seems pretty long-lasting.”
Being in the same department, they would see each other every day anyway.
“You should be grateful to me for saving your life.”
Quintin said secretly, but she was a bit confused, “What do you mean?”
“If I don’t assign you to marketing department, you will unsurprisingly be assigned to business and R&D departments.”
“Aren’t those two departments good?”
“The department is good, but the key is that leaders are not good. One is a fifty-year-old pervert, and no beautiful female subordinate can escape his clutches while the other is a thirty-five-year-old virgin who is not married, hysterical all day. Do you want to go to such a department? Others can’t even get out if they want to, and there’s only one type of person who wants to go in. …”
“Which type?”
“Looking for the abuse.”
“…”
Bella smiled when the assistant came over to report, “Director, the desk has been tidied up.”
“Okay, take Miss Finger over there, and let Team Leader Mr. Ronald arrange her work.”
Quintin patted Bella’s shoulder, “Working hard is the best way to repay me for saving you.”
“Got it, Director.”
Although Bella was a newcomer in the workplace, she had a mind with extraordinary intelligence. Thus, she knew the job content familiar one morning.
When it was time for lunch, seeing that she was still buried in her work, Mr. Ronald came over to remind her, “Haley, it’s time to eat.”
“Okay, I’ll go right away.”
The restaurant was on the third floor. When she rushed over, there was no one that was in the queue for food. She typed up a good meal by herself to find a corner spot and took a big bite, wanting to hurry up and go back to continue to familiarize herself with the business. Her goal was to become an excellent employee within three months.
“It’s not like anyone is robbing you. Why are you eating so fast?”
She looked up fiercely. It was Quintin again. He appeared where she went.
Bella looked around, awkward, and saw that many people were looking over at her and seemed to be gossiping. So she lowered her head and asked softly, “Director, why are you here?”
“Doesn’t the director have to eat?”
“You don’t have to eat here.”
“Then tell me where to eat it.”
Bella was speechless, hurriedly ate a few mouthfuls of rice then lifted the tray, and said, “I’m done. You take it easy.”
At three o’clock in the afternoon, while she was working, Quintin suddenly came back to her, stared at her computer screen, and asked, “How is it? Are you all familiar with it?”
She nodded, “Well, almost.”
“If you don’t understand anything, just ask Mr. Ronald, or ask me.”
“I can just ask Mr. Ronald.”
Bella replied tactfully.
“Where do you live?”
“Friendship Road.”
“How do you get home from work?”
“I take the bus.”
Bella was a little anxious. Quintin was standing behind her for a little too long, and some colleagues were paying attention to her side.
“Mr. Stock, I have to work …”
Quintin understood the meaning of her words and nodded, “Then I won’t disturb you.” He turned around and went back to his office.
After a while when he left, Mr. Ronald arrived in front of her and asked in a low voice, “Haley, are you familiar with the director?”
“No. I’m not familiar at all. What’s wrong?”
“No way, I see that he seems to be very familiar with you. The director has never come out of the office during working hours to speak to the staff, and he seems to have sat with you at noon. He’s such an honorable person and eats with you. If he is not privately familiar with the relationship, it won’t make sense.”
Bella wiped a cold sweat, “Mr. Ronald, you have overstated your point. It might be that I look rather stupid, the director came over to guide me, and it is just a coincidence at noon. It is a coincidence.”
“Are you stupid? You’re the smartest newcomer I’ve ever met, and the point is that you haven’t figured out one thing that someone with status like Mr. Stock doesn’t usually eat in the cafeteria.”
“What? And where does he dine?” Bella felt that he was making a fuss and couldn’t help but mutter, “No matter how high the status he has, he’s just a director …”
Although her voice was small, Mr. Ronald still heard it and he stared in shock, “A director? Do you think that Mr. Stock is just a director?”
“What other identity is there then?”
Mr. Ronald lowered his voice, “It’s a secret everyone knows but you that Mr. Stock is the chairman’s son. He just returned from the United States last year, temporarily being a director in the marketing department for being familiar with the business process. Sooner or later this company is by him in charge.”
Bella gasped, “The … the chairman’s son?”
What was wrong with her eyes? She even took the initiative to invite the chairman’s son to lunch as a rookie who came to apply for a job, and if her colleagues found out about this, she would be hard to get rid of the suspicion of bribery.
Quintin might think that she was trying to seduce him. Seduction … God, she was going to collapse.
Before she knew it, it was the off-duty time, and Bella deliberately dawdled. When all the people in the office had left, she came to the director’s office and opened the door and said, “Mr. Stock, I want to talk to you about something.”
“Go ahead.”
“From now on, don’t come to my position to talk to me during office hours, and don’t sit with me during lunchtime, okay?”
“Why?”
“I already know that you’re the chairman’s son.”
“So?”
“I don’t want people to say that I came in through pulling strings.”
Quintin smiled unconcernedly, “You just came in through pulling strings.”
Bella suddenly looked up with wide horrified eyes and asked, “What do you mean?”
“You said you’d take me out to lunch if you succeeded in the interview, so for that meal, I hired you.”
“Are you doubting my ability to do my job?!”
Bella was both shocked and angry.
She thought that even if Quintin didn’t let her pull strings, with her own ability she could have been hired, but this guy had ruined her wisdom.
“I have no doubt about your ability. The key is that with your education, you can’t get into our interview. Postgraduates are preferred in our recruiting this time. The six people who came to interview are postgraduates except you, but those three among the five postgraduates were eliminated. Do you think you don’t pull strings?”
Bella rolled her eyes, completely speechless.
Freya had been unable to eat or sleep for two days in a row. The death of her fetus was hidden from everyone, and she had to find a way to solve it as soon as possible, or else she would fail it immediately.
On this day, she finally thought of a way that would protect herself from this situation.
Blanche had taken a nap and was about to go downstairs when Freya called out to her from behind her, “Mom, wait a minute.”
“What for?”
Blanche turned back in confusion.
“Did you know that your son has been getting close to a woman named Lily lately?”
“I’m not sure.”
“Then I’ll tell you right now. Lily is a barmaid and you must stop your son from getting anywhere near her again.”
“I can’t control him.”
“What do you mean you can’t control him? You can’t control the son you gave birth to and do you want me to control him?”
“I’m not always in charge of what I’m born with. It used to be Bella who was in charge of him.”
“What do you mean? Are you indirectly accusing me of being inferior to Bella?”
“I’m just being honest.”
“I don’t need you to be honest. You just tell me if you care or not.”
Blanche was a bit impatient with her pestering, “I said I can’t manage it. If you want to manage it, you go ahead.”
She turned to go downstairs in exasperation, but Freya grabbed her hand, “If you don’t agree then let’s spend today here!”
“Let go of me.”
“I won’t let go of you until you promise to keep your son away from that Lily!”
“I told you I couldn’t care about it. Are you annoyed or not?”
Blanche pulled back her hand, and Freya suddenly missed her footing and rolled down the stairs …
“Ah-”
With a miserable screech, Blanche was frightened. The white dress worn by Freya quickly oozed bright red blood, and the blood dripped down her thighs to the ground, blindingly red.
With a bang, Blanche’s mind went blank and she fainted.
When she woke up, she was already lying on the hospital bed, and Patrick was sitting by her bedside, looking at her with a grave look.
“Patrick, where is Freya? Where’s my grandson?”
Blanche sat up sharply and questioned shakily.
“The child was miscarried.”
Once she heard that the child had been miscarried, she let out an anguished cry. This was the evil fate. She went against the least principle of being a human being. She just wanted to have a grandson, now she didn’t and was punished in such a way, and murdered her own grandson with her own hands.
Patrick was also very heartbroken, hugging his wife and choking up, “Don’t cry. It’s not your fault. It’s just that we’re not destined for that child.”
“It’s been more than four months. It’s been more than four months. How could I drag her downstairs by mistake? I really deserve to die. I really deserve to die!!!”
Blanche pounded her chest in self-reproach, frustrated, and wished she could bump to die.
“Who is Freya’s family?”
The nurse came running with a panicked look on her face and asked.
“We are. What’s wrong?”
“She was so out of control when she learned the baby had been miscarried that she broke a saline bottle and cut her artery and killed herself …”
“Kill herself …”
Blanche blacked out and nearly passed out again, and they rushed to the emergency room when Kevin arrived.
“What’s going on?”
He looked at his parents with a glazed look on his face.
“Kevin, I’m sorry. It’s all my fault. I’m the one who got your child killed …”
As soon as Blanche saw him, she was crying so hard that she couldn’t hold herself back. Patrick told him what had happened, and his face fell, and he went to the window, staring at the tall buildings in the distance with mixed feelings. The child was still gone after all. Although he shouldn’t have come, he was life after all. Kevin hated Freya, but he never hated that child. He closed his eyes and prayed silently in his heart. The child, rest in peace.
Freya’s face was pale as a sheet of paper when she was pushed out of the emergency room and it was lucky that she was found in time and her wound was not life-threatening.
In fact, it wasn’t that she was discovered in time, but that her wound wasn’t deep enough.
