On the top floor of the hotel, Alvin was drinking a bottle of whiskey decadently. Kevin walked up to him and patted him on the shoulder, “Is everything okay?”
Alvin looked up weakly and said, “Nothing.”
“There’s no need to be sad for such a woman. You should be glad that you discovered her infidelity before marriage and avoided the opportunity for her to cuckold you.”
“Now what’s the difference between being like that and being a cuckold?”
Alvin chuckled in self-deprecation.
“At least it will not happen again. If you don’t see her betrayal today, you don’t know how long you’ll have to be cuckolded.”
Two years of love was in vain. Alvin was heartbroken. From now on, he would never believe in love again, much less give his heart to just anyone.
They originally scheduled for a three-day sweet trip. Alvin broke up with that woman, so it ended hastily. After returning from the trip, Alvin asked Kevin for a month’s leave. He needed time to sort out his messy mood and broken relations.
As soon as Alvin took a leave of absence, Kevin was unlucky. He had to do everything himself that didn’t need him to do personally. He left early in the morning and came back late at night. He had to work until late at night. Finally, Bella couldn’t bear it anymore.
“We haven’t eaten dinner together for a week. Do you know that?”
She stood in front of Kevin’s desk and grumbled.
Kevin was typing on the computer keyboard and stared at the display, answering, “I’ve been very busy lately.”
“You used to say that I’m more important than work, but it seems to be a lie.”
Only then did he look askance at her and asked calmly, “Are you complaining that I’ve been snubbing you?”
Bella rolled her eyes at him, “I’m not complaining that you’re snubbing me. I can’t bear to see you work so hard.”
“Alas, Alvin went on vacation. I’m the president of the company. What if I don’t work hard?”
“Don’t you have two other beautiful secretaries?”
“They’re just handling simple things. Alvin is in charge of confidential company work and I can’t just leave it to anyone else.”
“Oh…”
Bella suddenly realized something. She took a glance at Kevin’s tired look and suddenly asked wobbly, “How about I go help you?”
“You?”
“Yeah, don’t underestimate me. I’ve studied business management and business planning on my own.”
Kevin pondered for a few seconds, thinking of what happened a long time ago when Bella dealt with Wilson. It seemed that she did have a bit of business acumen, so he couldn’t help but agree, “That’s fine. If you feel bored staying at home, go help me out.”
In fact, he also had a wish that he could see Bella more often.
In fact, Bella’s ability to absorb and learn was completely beyond his imagination. In just half a day, she was able to fathom some of the operational procedures.
Lena quickly learned about Alvin and Winifred. She arrived at the company. Once she saw Bella, she asked, “Bella, where did Alvin go?”
Bella shook her head and answered, “All I know is that he went on vacation, but I’m not sure where he has been exactly.”
She frowned, “Why didn’t you take me that day?”
“Things wouldn’t go so smoothly if you were there.”
“I’m going to mess up.”
Bella was busy with the work at hand and replied distractedly, “It’s all in the past, so what’s the point of pursuing it?”
“Don’t you really know where Alvin is?”
“I really don’t know. If I knew, I would tell you.”
Seeing that Bella didn’t lie, Lena lifted her chin up, “I’ll ask my brother. He definitely knows where Alvin is.”
She came to the CEO’s office, pretended to be miserable, and asked, “Kevin, where did Alvin go?”
Without even looking at her, Kevin replied with conviction, “I don’t know.”
“Impossible! How could you not know? You don’t want to tell me, do you?”
Lena glared at him angrily.
“How could I possibly know? I’m not his mind reader.”
“Then he’ll at least tell you where he’s going!”
Kevin sighed, “He is an adult. He has his own circle of life. He won’t tell me everything. You are still in college. You should focus on your studies. Don’t just know to be around a man all day.”
No matter how miserable Lena pretended to be, Kevin stated that he didn’t know. As a result, what she wanted to ask wasn’t answered, and she was also scolded by him.
When Bella saw her sister-in-law come out of Kevin’s office, she walked over and asked, “What’s wrong? You didn’t get the answer, right?”
Lena nodded cryptically, “Well, he didn’t tell me. I can see it in his eyes that he obviously knows where he is…”
Bella took a deep breath and comforted her sister-in-law, “You go back first. Leave this matter to me.”
“Can you ask for me?”
“As long as he knows, I’ll definitely ask it for you.”
Lena thanked Bella and returned home. Bella came to the CEO’s office with a stack of information and threw it on the table with a snap, “When is Alvin coming back?”
“What’s wrong?”
Kevin looked up at her in confusion.
“I’m dying of exhaustion. I am unpaid.”
Kevin laughed, “How long have you been here? Three days?”
“It’s nearly five p. m. Yes, it has been for three days.”
“I pay you, okay? What about I pay you ten times more than Alvin?”
Bella nodded, “Fine, but you have to tell me where Alvin is and when exactly he’ll be back. I have a good idea of what’s going on.”
“He’s gone to Salinas and will be back in about half a month.”
“Oh, got it.”
Bella turned to walk out, but she seemed to have thought of something and turned back, “Give me your phone.”
“What for?”
“Make a call. My phone’s dead.”
“Can’t you call on a landline?”
“I just want to use your phone, okay? What? Is there a secret in the phone that I can’t know about?”
Kevin laughed and handed her the phone, “Feel free to have a check.”
Bella took the phone, strode out of the office, and swiped the phone. It took her a few times to find another phone number for Alvin. She took out a pen and wrote it down.
That night, the Jones-Sharps blew up. Lena left a note and left home.
As soon as Kevin saw the message written on it, he turned back and questioned Bella, “You told her that?”
Bella nodded, guilty, “Yes.”
“Come up here with me.”
He rudely took her hand and raced up the stairs. He shut the door and growled, “Who told you to do that?”
“Nobody told me to do so. I did it myself.”
“Do you want a spanking? You know Alvin doesn’t like her, and you let her go to him?”
“Love is earned. Alvin is emotionally at its weakest right now, and it’s a great opportunity for Lena to comfort him.”
“Do you take everyone like me? Do you think anyone will open his or her heart after the breakup?”
Bella’s eyes widened in shock, and she looked up at him, “What, do you regret it?”
“I don’t have any regrets. It’s just that Lena is not like you. You are strong, but she isn’t. She’s in constant danger. You let him go to Alvin. If Alvin says anything too much, it’s a deep hurt to her!”
“There’s no way to control love. Lena won’t hold still even if she knows that Alvin and Winifred have broken up. You can stop her today. Can you stop her tomorrow?”
“At least I couldn’t have stopped her this time.”
“You are escaping from reality. You don’t believe your sister. If it were me, I wouldn’t let her run away. I would encourage her to be brave and pursue her true love. As long as she tries her best, even if she fails, she is still brave!”
“Yes, so now Lena’s gone. It is because of you, isn’t it?”
“You’ll thank me when they get married later!”
“Let’s see!”
…
Lena arrived in Salinas. She immediately dialed Alvin’s number. When she heard a familiar voice, she said excitedly, “Alvin, I’m here in Salinas. Can you come to pick me up?”
Alvin was startled and said angrily, “What are you doing here?”
“I’ll come to you. I’m at the airport right now. I’m not familiar with this place. You must come to pick me up. See you soon.”
Without waiting for Alvin to speak, Lena hung up the phone. She didn’t give him any chance to refuse her.
Half an hour later, she saw Alvin’s get down from the taxi. She ran over and hugged him, “I knew you would come. Alvin, are you okay?”
Alvin pushed her out of her embrace and said coldly, “There’s a return flight this afternoon. Get ready to go back.”
As soon as she was told to go back, Lena squatted on the ground, “I’m not going back. I came all the way over here to find you! I won’t go back!”
“So what else do you want?”
Alvin was angry.
“I have something to say to you!”
He yanked her up, “Okay, let’s find a place to talk then. Let’s finish early and get back.”
They went to a Café and Alvin spoke with a gloomy face, “Go ahead, I’m listening.”
“I know about you and Winifred.”
“So?”
“Don’t be sad. She doesn’t deserve your distress!”
“I’m not sad.”
“Be my boyfriend. I won’t betray you!”
Alvin scoffed, “Do you think emotions are so casual? You can be anyone’s girlfriend if you want? So what’s the difference between me and Molly?”
“I like you for a long time. You know that.”
“But I…”
Alvin was about to say that he didn’t have the same thoughts about her. But when he thought that Lena couldn’t be stimulated, he changed his words, “I’ve just broken up. I’m not planning on starting a new relationship yet.”
Lena grinned, “It’s okay. I can wait for you for as long as you want.”
There was a brief silence. Alvin said helplessly, “Lena, you don’t have to wait for me. You are still young and you haven’t met any men. When you get older and your horizons are wider, you will find that there are many men better than me.”
