Bella muddled into the guest room. She looked like she lost her soul. It had been a dozen hours since she left the United States. Her heart was like a roller coaster, sometimes soaring to the clouds, and falling to the bottom of the valley in the next moment.
She closed the door and slowly squatted to the floor. She covered the mouth and suddenly burst into tears in despair. She was grief-stricken. She couldn’t control her life. She couldn’t even cry out loud. She was violently trembling because of grief.
In the darkness, her tears were glittering and transparent. Her skinny body curled up on the wall by the door. She felt afraid for the first time. Even if she was plotted against by Colin and Gillian all those years, she was never afraid. But now she was really afraid. It was a cruel reality. What should she do? What about Kevin…?
“Bella… Bella…”
Outside the door suddenly came the sound of Kevin calling her. She scrambled to wipe away the tears all over her face, not wanting him to see her sad face. She was living in hell, but she didn’t want to drag Kevin into hell as well.
“Kevin, you’re looking for me.”
Bella, who was standing in front of Kevin again, already had a smile on her face.
There was nothing more painful than this. She was heartbroken, but she had a smile on her face.
“Didn’t you go to deliver medicine? How come my mom hasn’t seen you?”
“Oh, I just got a phone call.”
Bella looked down gloomily and shoved the medicine into his hand, “Please give it to mom. I’m going to take a shower.”
She hurried into the bedroom and slammed the door. Her body pressed against the door panel. Tears, once again, gushed out of her eyes…
Kevin returned after delivering the medicine to his mother’s room. He glanced at Bella standing in front of the window and quietly walked over to her. He reached out and encircled her from behind, his chin resting between the napes of her neck, and said gently, “What’s on your mind?”
“Nothing, I am just looking at the stars.”
“You had a bad day, right?”
She shook her head, “No.”
Kevin sighed, looked into her eyes, and then said solemnly, “You can tell me everything. You don’t have to pretend to be strong I front of me. You can have weaknesses. I am your partner. You can say what you want to me.”
Stunned, Bella looked at him in a daze and heard him continue, “So, cry if you want to. You are never alone. You can rely on me at all times.”
Her tears rolled down. Kevin knew her sore spot.
“Thank you…”
Bella leaned into his arms. At this moment, she was dazed and helpless. Kevin’s sweet words were undoubtedly the best comfort and encouragement to her. She really didn’t dare to think about how her life would continue if she lost Kevin.
“One will always encounter difficulties of one kind or another in one’s life. And after you obtain true happiness, you will understand that the pain of the past is actually an asset. You will be stronger to face the future. It helps you cherish the people you love and those who love you.”
Bella didn’t speak but just silently wept.
“Nothing can crush you until you’ve truly held yourself up. You will be stronger.
“Aren’t you going to ask me why I’m crying?”
She looked up at him and inquired tearfully.
Kevin gazed at her sadly, “You are wife, and I respect you. I have no right to take a hand in your every business. If you want to say it, I’ll listen to you. I won’t ask you if you don’t want to say it.”
This was the tacit understanding between Kevin and Bella, which had never changed.
Bella received a call from Alice, asking her to come out for lunch together on the weekend. At noon on the weekend, Bella arrived on time at the place she had agreed with Alice.
As soon as they met, Alice stared at Bella. Bella felt uncomfortable and asked, “Why are you looking at me like this?”
“Every time I see you, you look haggard. I can’t bear to witness it.”
“Then why did you stare at me like that? Look at you. You don’t look well.”
Alice shifted her gaze away and asked in a deep voice, “Is it still not working? You are back from America?”
“Mm.”
Bella nodded woodenly and sipped at the bitter coffee in front of her. It tasted really bitter, bitterer than she felt in her heart.
“Bella, it’s fine. It’s no big deal. Don’t take it to heart. Many Tinker families don’t want children nowadays.”
“Is Kevin’s family a dink family?”
Alice was speechless. Yes, Kevin’s family would definitely want children. Normal people couldn’t even accept a dink family, let alone the kind of lofty and prominent family.
“What does Kevin think about this matter?”
Alice asked cautiously.
“He doesn’t know yet.”
Bella held up her head with her hands, distraught, “I don’t know how to tell him the fact.”
“There’s no way to hide it then.”
“Let’s talk about it later. If there’s really no way to get better, I’ll come clean with him.”
“What if he wants to divorce you?”
Bella suddenly stiffened. She had never considered this. Alice’s blunt words cut her heart like a knife, “Then do it.”
Alice was sad. She saw the frustration flashing through her friend’s eyes. She couldn’t bear to talk to her about this topic anymore, so she moved on to herself, “I’m getting married.”
Bella looked up sharply, “Get married? To whom?”
“Louis.”
Bella was shocked again, literally thinking she had heard it wrong, “What did you say? Louis?”
“Louis.”
Alice repeated.
“What’s going on here?”
“Nothing happened. He proposed to me, and then, I said yes.”
Bella felt that something was wrong. She was in deep thought, wondering if she had irritated him that day. Was that the reason why he proposed to Alice?
“He proposed to you. This was originally a good thing, but Alice, does he love you?”
“No.”
“Then why do you…”
“It is because I love him. Do you think everyone in marriage loves each other like you and Kevin? In fact, your marriage gives me a lot of confidence and hope.”
“What do you mean?”
“Did Kevin love you in the beginning? Did you love him? You didn’t like each other, but now what? But you guys are in love.”
Alice had a point. Even if Bella had any concerns, she could only send her blessings to her, “Well, since you’ve made up your mind, I wish you have a happy life.”
After separating from Alice, Bella pondered for a long time. And then she edited a text message to send to Louis, “I don’t know for what purpose you proposed to Alice. And I don’t want to know about it. But I need to remind you that Alice is a good girl. Since you decided to marry her, please treat her well.”
Louis closed his eyes in sorrow as he received this text message. A moment later, he dialed Alice’s number, “Are you free tomorrow night?”
“Yes, what can I do for you?”
“Take you somewhere.”
“Where it is?”
“Don’t ask for now. You’ll know tomorrow.”
The next day was Monday. Alice met Louis at school and walked away, flushed. Although they had agreed to get married, Alice was too embarrassed to get too close to him at school. Besides, no one knew about their relationship.
In the evening after school, she waited for all the teachers to leave. Louis was already sitting in the car waiting for her. After seeing no one around, she quickly pulled the door open and got in.
“Why are you acting like a thief?”
Louis asked.
Alice answered with some embarrassment, “It’s not very nice to be seen.”
“We’re getting married soon, so don’t be afraid of being seen from now on. And you can talk to me at school.”
“Okay.”
She nodded and the car drove off the ground, halfway through the drive she remembered to ask, “Where the hell are we going?”
“I’ll tell you when we get off the car.”
After that, the two of them stopped talking. The car finally stopped after half an hour. Alice looked at the three big characters of the Tranquil Sea Villa and asked nervously, “Where are we?”
Louis got out of the car and then pulled the door open for her.
She jumped down apprehensively and followed after Louis, “Didn’t you tell me when you got out of the car?”
He stopped, turned back, and said, “My mother lives here.”
She stared at him in shock and turned around and ran without saying a word. Louis yanked her back, “What are you running for?” he asked.
“Your mother would kill me if she saw me.”
“It won’t happen with me here.”
Louis took her hand in his hand and stepped forward.
Alice looked at the hand he was holding. Her heart was thumping. Was it a dream? He held Her hand!
In the midst of muddle, she arrived in front of Celeste’s apartment. Louis rang the doorbell, sensing the tension of the girl behind him, and reassured, “Don’t be afraid. Summon up.”
Celeste opened the door. When she saw her son standing outside the door, she cracked a smile, “Louise, come in quickly.”
And when she suddenly saw Alice, her face immediately fell, “Why are you here?”
“I invited her.”
Louis said calmly to his mother and then motioned to Alice, “Come in with me.”
Alice followed Louis into the living room. Celeste looked at her up and down. Alice was nervous.
“Tell me, what do you mean by bringing this woman here?”
Celeste sat across from her son. Her face darkened when she questioned him.
“I’m getting married.”
Louis came straight to the point that he was getting married, not giving his mother any time to regain her senses.
