“Don’t go …”
When Freya saw him leaving, she suddenly flung herself off the bed. Then she violently coughed. Kevin stopped and hurriedly returned to pull her up, let her drink the boiled water by the bedside table, “Drink some.”
She drank the water but didn’t stop coughing. Seeing that she kept coughing, Kevin called out to the doctor on duty.
After another examination, the doctor asked angrily, “Are you smoking in the ward?”
He nodded and admitted, “Yes.”
“What a nonsense! Don’t you know you’re not allowed to smoke in the ward? The patient was originally suffering from a respiratory infection, and as a result, she is now inhaling a large amount of cigarettes, which has infected her lungs. It will most likely develop into tuberculosis.”
Kevin was very guilty, “I’m sorry. It was my mistake.”
Freya was once again pushed into the emergency room. Kevin ruffled his hair in frustration, feeling even more annoyed, but at that moment, Bella’s phone call came again.
“I have a bit of a fever right now. Can you come back?”
Kevin sighed heavily, “Bella, will you stop making a scene? Must you make troubles so unreasonably?”
Stunned, Bella asked woodenly, “Do you think I’m unreasonable?”
“Don’t you? I’m just doing my duty as a friend taking care of a sick person and you call nonstop. You were fine when I left but now you say you have a fever. Can’t you find a better reason?”
“Do you think I’m looking for an excuse? Do you think I’m such a boring person?”
Bella felt painful. In fact, she wasn’t lying. She was standing on the balcony for a few hours of cold air before midnight. She didn’t feel anything at the time, but after midnight she felt uncomfortable. She originally wanted to stay until dawn. If it wasn’t for the headache that was really unbearable at the moment, she wouldn’t have called Kevin again.
“Freya said she had a fever, so I came here. Now you just want to compete with her, to see who is most important in my heart between you and her, don’t you?”
“Well, if you say so then so be it.”
Bella didn’t want to say anything else and hung up weakly, tossing the phone to the floor.
In pain and anger, she finally made it to dawn. She strained to get dressed, and called her sister-in-law after thinking.
“Lena, are you up yet?”
“Not yet, why are you calling me so early, Bella?”
“I’m feeling a bit uncomfortable and can’t drive, so I want to trouble you to drive me to the hospital.”
Upon hearing that she was uncomfortable, Lena asked nervously, “Why are you uncomfortable? Where is my brother?”
If Lena didn’t mention her, she would feel better. But when she mentioned Kevin, Bella had a pain in the chest for anger.
“He’s not home for something.”
“That’s good. I’m going over there now!”
“Well, don’t tell our mom, so she doesn’t worry.”
“Got it.”
Hanging up the phone, Lena ran out of the house in a flurry, and within half an hour, she appeared in front of Bella.
“Bella, did you not sleep all night? Why do you have dark circles?”
Lena was distressed and leaned in front of her to look carefully.
“Well, I had a low fever in the middle of the night and couldn’t sleep.”
She packed up and said, “Let’s go. I have classes at school this afternoon.”
Lena drove the car to the hospital, accompanied Bella into the outpatient room. Bella originally wanted to take some medicine or an injection and leave, but the doctor insisted that she had a drip.
Lying in the infusion room, her throat was so sore that she couldn’t even speak. She felt all dizzy and the nurse asked while giving her infusion, “Have you eaten breakfast?”
“No.”
She answered in a muddle.
“The family will go buy some food. Having a drip with an empty stomach will be very uncomfortable.”
Lena immediately agreed, “Okay, I’m on my way.”
She hurriedly ran out of the infusion room, and as soon as she turned around, she saw a familiar figure, rubbing her eyes in surprise to make sure it wasn’t her illusion. She shouted, “Brother!”
Kevin, holding the frail Freya on his arm, was preparing to leave the hospital when he suddenly glanced at his sister, stopped in confusion and asked, “Why are you here?”
“I should be the one to ask you that. Why are you here?”
She coldly gazed at Freya, becoming angry in her heart.
“Lena, long time no see.”
Freya smiled at her. This girl had almost become her sister-in-law in the past, but now, she was hostile towards her.
“Yeah, long time no see. I’m so curious that didn’t you elope with my brother Conrad? Why are you still ashamed to come back?”
Freya’s face suddenly fell.
“Lena, don’t talk so rudely.”
“Why do I need to be polite talking with a woman like her?”
Freya’s face grew paler.
“You shut up!”
When Kevin angrily reprimanded his sister, Lena couldn’t endure her anger anymore, “You’re still protecting her. Your wife is already sick in the hospital and you’re still here defending this woman who betrayed you!!!! Do you have a conscience or not?”
“What did you say?”
Kevin’s heart thudded and he frowned tightly.
“I said your wife is sick in the hospital. Do I need to say it again?”
“Where is she?”
Kevin let go of Freya’s arm and said in a deep voice, “You quickly take me there.”
“I think it’s better not to do so. I guess this woman needs you now, so you just accompany her. I’ll take care of my sister-in-law.”
“Take me to see her!”
Kevin growled, startling Freya and Lena.
“What about her?”
Lena pointed at Freya without patience.
“Which ward is your sister-in-law in?”
“No. 13.”
Kevin looked askance at Freya, “Let Lena send you back.” Then, he went to the infusion area of the ward.
“Hello? Why do you want me to send her home? I’m not taking her home!”
Lena was furious and growled at her brother’s back, glancing at the woman who was so pale and frail, and stomped viciously, “Let’s go. What are you standing here for?”
When Freya got into Lena’s car, she asked very rudely, “Tell me the address again.”
“No. 123 Purple Garden Road.”
Freya spoke weakly. She was heartbroken when she thought of Kevin’s back as he decided to leave her behind.
Lena wanted to make Freya disappear in front of her eyes as soon as possible, stepping on the accelerator. It took thirty minutes to arrive there, but she arrived in fourteen minutes and thirty-three seconds.
“Here we are. Go down.”
Freya’s stomach churned, tortured by her excessive speed, pushing open the car door and vomiting.
Lena wanted to immediately start the engine and leave, but thought about it, and felt that there was still something left to say. She got out of the car and patted Freya’s shoulder, “Hey, you still haven’t told me why you came back.”
Freya straightened up and replied with a sideways glance, “I naturally have my reasons for coming back, and there’s no need to report back to you, right?”
“Do you think I’m curious about your reason for coming back? If it wasn’t for my sister-in-law’s sake, I wouldn’t bother asking why you came back. I’m warning you no matter what your reason is, don’t even think about ruining my brother’s relationship with my sister-in-law. There’s no way my brother would abandon Bella for a woman like you. Bella is much better than you.”
Freya bit her lip and stared at her sharply, “Lena, since when have you hated me so much? Didn’t you used to like me a lot?”
“You know it was before. I liked you before because I didn’t know what you were like, but now that I’m clear. How could I still like you? From the day you betrayed my brother, you’ve become my sworn enemy in this life. So don’t greet me when you see me in the future, go around as far as you can. Even if you don’t, I’ll still go around.”
Freya smiled sadly, “It seems you don’t know anything.”
“Do I need to know anything? All I need to know is that you’re a bad woman and that you betrayed my brother. I don’t need to know anything else. You remember that I’ll hang your ass out to dry if you dare to ruin half my dreams!”
Lena’s car had driven out of Freya’s sight, but Freya didn’t understand what half of her dream was that she was talking about. What did it have to do with herself?
In the hospital room where the smell of disinfectant was thick, Bella pursed her lips tightly and didn’t say a word. Originally she hated the hospital, but this place right now stood a person that she hated.
“Bella, I’m sorry. I didn’t know you were really sick. I’m sorry.”
Kevin felt guilty with heartache and stood in front of her. He couldn’t stop apologizing to her. When she called him last night, he really didn’t expect that it would be such a coincidence that Freya was sick and so was she.
“You hurry up and get better, and I’ll let you beat and scold me. I won’t say no if you ask me to do anything.”
“Get out. I don’t want to see you now.”
Bella coldly gave the eviction order. He didn’t show up when she needed him last night. Now she didn’t need him,. So she didn’t care if he showed up.
“How can I be relieved to leave when you’re like this?”
“Well, you were relieved last night. Why not now?”
“Didn’t I tell you last night that I really thought you were making excuses to force me to go back, and then Freya was in the ER. How was I going to leave her alone?”
“You can’t leave her behind, but you leave me behind. What if I had died last night?”
“Nonsense!”
Kevin angrily covered her mouth, “No nonsense.”
Bella angrily pushed away his hand that was covering her mouth, “Don’t be hypocritically sorrowful. You didn’t care about me at all!”
“What in the world do you want me to do to believe that I’m true to you? Do you need me to show you my heart?”
She looked at him indifferently for a while before saying, “You may be sincere, but I just can’t feel it.”
Kevin closed his eyes with annoyance and pinched his eyebrows, “Okay, now we won’t discuss the issue of being sincere. Have you eaten breakfast yet?”
“It’s none of your business.”
As she finished, the nurse came in with a fresh bottle of saline, “Hey, haven’t you eaten anything yet? This will be too much for your stomach to handle.”
Kevin turned and left the room without saying a word, and returned shortly afterwards with a bag of breakfast, which he placed on the table. Then he reached out to try to assist Bella to sit down.
“Don’t touch me.”
Bella shrugged his hand away in disgust, and disgusted at the thought that his hands might have held Freya.
“If you’re disgruntled, can you go home and make a scene? Now fill your belly.”
“I’m already full when I see you. Please get out.”
Kevin sighed, “Even if you hate me so much now, there’s no need to be hard on your body. You don’t care about your health, but I care.”
He forcefully and domineeringly carried her in his arms, while she struggled hard, “I’m already disgusted, so don’t disgust me again!”
“Well, if you don’t want to see me that badly, I can go. But you’ll have to eat this.”
He took a hot sandwich out of his breakfast bag.
Bella took it in one hand in order to get him out of the way as quickly as possible, “I’ll eat it and you can go.”
“… Good.”
Kevin once again sighed helplessly, and left the ward wearily. But Bella didn’t look at him, just listened to the distant footsteps, felt grieved in her heart, and shed tears.
She bit into her sandwich while sniffling and sobbing. He really left. But she let him come back, he would not come back …
Kevin actually did not go. How could he leave Bella alone in the hospital? He was just standing in the corridor, wanting to wait for her to eat the sandwich and then going in. He thought he might finish eating, and quietly stood by the door. He probed to look, but saw Bella wiping tears.
He was heartbroken, entered the ward, sat by her bedside and sulkily questioned, “Sandwich soaked by tears tastes good, right?”
