Alice, of course, had spotted him tracking, so as soon as he entered the house, she shouted, “Bella, come out quickly…”
“What’s wrong?”
Bella had just taken a hot shower and was tying the straps of her bathrobe as she came into the living room.
“I’s simply scarier than a ghost. Kevin is here.”
She suddenly froze and looked lost, “Did you tell him?”
Alice raised her hand to vow, “I didn’t tell him or I will be struck by lightning!”
“Then how did he find his way here?”
“How would I know? I met him at the school gate. I said to him according to your exact words. I didn’t expect Louis to believe it all, but Kevin didn’t. He really is a shrewd traitor.”
Bella went to the window, picked open the curtains, and saw an unfamiliar car through the gap, but the person leaning against the door was extremely familiar.
“It looks like he thinks you’re here and is ready to keep watch.”
Alice lay on her shoulder, asserting with certainty.
Bella pondered for a few seconds, turned into the bedroom, changed out of her clothes, and headed out in big strides.
“Will you forgive him easily… Hey, Bella, have you forgotten what he did to you….”
Alice shouted at her back, but she walked away, ignoring her.
Kevin stared meaningfully at the woman walking towards him, slowly rolled up the lever and extinguished the half cigarette in his hand.
Bella stood in front of him, glanced at the fragmented cigarette butts on the ground, and asked calmly, “What do you want again?”
“Is your hand better?”
“Is it any of your business? What am I to you?”
Being speechless by her sharp language, Kevin lit another cigarette.
“Tell me your reason for coming here.”
“I’m little worried about you.”
He told the truth, but drew a sarcastic laugh from her, “Are you worried? You deeply hurt me for your own self-interest, then beg for my forgiveness with sweet words. You think I will forget how I suffer. Kevin, I’m not a three-year-old anymore, so you don’t need to be hypocritically sorrow.”
“I know you’re angry right now…”
“So?”
Bella interrupted him, secretly expecting him to say those three words.
“So I’m sorry. I really didn’t think about you suffering from claustrophobia at the time.”
“I’m not surprise at all. How could you remember what disease I suffer from when you could have given me away as a bet to your friend?”
“You were the one who said that your pride was worthless.”
“No matter how worthless it is, it doesn’t mean I can do without it, and someone like me, who doesn’t have much myself, hasn’t been extravagant enough to discard worthless things.”
It was deadlocked for a while. Both of them fell silent and no one spoke anymore.
After a long time, Kevin was the first to break the silence, “Come back with me.”
“When you truly realize your fault, then you say that to me.”
Bella turned around and walked away. She had a sad smile. All she wanted to hear was an apology. But that proud man wouldn’t say it anyway.
When Louis came to find Bella, it happened to be two days after Kevin looked for her.
Bella didn’t know how he knew she didn’t travel, but no one tipped him off anyway, so he just found her.
When Bella was about to go out to meet him, Alice, who was sitting on the sofa, said sourly, “Your popularity really hasn’t diminished….”
When Bella in B University was famous for her pretty look, there were many boys chasing after her.
In the summer night, a breeze blew gently, and people felt refreshingly cool.
“Mr. Hunter, what do you want to see me so late?”
Louis smiled, “You’re not a stranger, but we seem not familiar.” Seeing her hand was wrapped in gauze, he grabbed it and asked, “What happened to your hand?”
Bella cast her gaze towards the second floor window and really saw Alice, so she slowly retracted her hand and replied indifferently, “Nothing.”
“Did you have a fight with Kevin?”
“No.”
“Then why do you live here?”
She sighed, “Louis, I know you’re deeply in love with me, but I’m already married and it’s useless for you to care about me. So instead of wasting your time on me, why can’t you look at other women around you?”
“I only care about you, Bella.”
A woman’s heart was fragile, especially after being hurt by another man.
Bella didn’t deny that Louis’s words touched her, but she wasn’t moved yet, “If there’s nothing wrong, I…”
“Can you have a late dinner with me? You owed me last time.”
She was startled, and looked at the watch on her wrist in embarrassment, “It’s too late, isn’t it?”
“But I came to you on with my empty stomach. I think I wouldn’t have that bad luck that I’ve been rejected every time.”
“Is it okay if we call Alice then?”
He shook his head, “I only want to be with you.”
Bella was still struggling, but Louis had opened the car door and made a gesture of invitation, “If you still refuse today, then I’ll have to charge interest. If you don’t want to accompany me for many dinners, then hurry up and pay off the debt.”
She sighed helplessly and had to get into the car.
In the past few days, Kevin’s relationship with his father had eased, but he was still in a bad mood.
At the evening meal, Blanche deliberately sighed in front of him, “Hey, the days when Bella is not here, I don’t have a good appetite, and I don’t know when Bella will come back.”
Lena immediately said, “Mom, don’t look forward to it. Bella may not come back for the rest of her life.”
“What nonsense, Bella is your brother’s wife. Where is she going if she doesn’t come back?”
“Bella can go anywhere. She is quite tolerant. If I were her, I would have left at once.”
They echoed each other, and obviously already saw that Kevin looked extremely bad. But they still provoked him.
Kevin slammed his chopsticks on the table, “I’m full.” Being annoyed, he went upstairs.
At night, after his family was asleep, he touched the car keys and got out of the house in the silvery moonlight.
The car sped by all the way to its destination. He parked in the shade, and hesitated as he took out his phone and prepared to make a call. Bella made it clear last time that only when he recognized his fault could he come to her. He knew that she needed his apology. But it was difficult for him to really say sorry.
While he was hesitating, a silver-gray Mercedes-Benz flashed by in front of his eyes and parked fifty meters ahead.
He frowned and stared straight at the two people walking down from the car.
Louis drank some wine tonight and seemed very excited. He stood in front of Bella and said lovingly, “Time always passes so fast with you. I wish time could stop at this second.”
Bella smiled imploringly, “It sounds like we’re going to have to part forever.”
“It’s still because you always refuse to be alone with me that I feel like every second with you is extraordinarily valuable.”
“What you can’t get is always the best. If I say yes every time you ask me out, naturally you wouldn’t feel it cherished.”
Louis surprisingly took a step forward and asked inquisitively, “So, are you playing cat and mouse with me by your rejection of me? You want to be with me, right?”
Bella caressed her forehead and sighed. If she hadn’t already discovered Kevin here, she wouldn’t have been talked so much to Louis.
“Of course it’s not.”
“What? Don’t you want to be with me?”
Deliberately misinterpreting her meaning, looking at her eager to explain, he suddenly restrained the playful expression on his face and said in a serious manner, “Bella, don’t move, there seems to be something crawling on your head.”
She was startled. Before she realized what was going on, he held her face and kissed deeply on her forehead.
Thanks to the effects of the drink, Louis did what he had always wanted to do, and even if he was slapped, he would not regret it.
Bella froze and was startled by his kiss. She was quite embarrassed when becoming sober.
“If you don’t slap me then I’ll leave.”
Louis showed a smug smile, looking even more radiant than just now.
Kevin was so angry that he couldn’t stand it any longer. He pushed the door open, clenched his fists, strode to Louis, and gave him a hard punch.
Louis blacked out and fell to the ground. Bella screamed and roared angrily to Kevin, “What are you crazy about? You come and beat someone in the middle of the night.”
“And you know it’s the middle of the night. What was he doing to you in the middle of the night?”
Kevin just finished, then was punched by Louis. Their anger completely broke out. They fought hard for Bella, but she couldn’t stopped it.
Louis was a wrestling champion, while Kevin was a taekwondo expert. They couldn’t tell the winner or the loser, but they were both hurt badly.
Bella saw that this can’t go on, had a chance to squeeze the gap in front of Louis, and forced back Kevin’s fist that was raised in the air.
“That’s enough, why do you have to fight here? Before you want to blame others, and before you question what others have done to me, you think about what you have done to me!”
Bella deliberately sided with Louis, and after yelling, she took a handkerchief from her pocket and turned around to tenderly wipe the blood stains on the corners of his mouth.
Kevin coldly watched them. He felt unspeakable upset. How much she hated him? She even irritated him by doing that.
For the first time after three years, he was frustrated and actually hurting for a woman.
