The dinner at the Jones-Sharps was even more sumptuous than breakfast, and Blanche held Bella’s hand, talking vigorously about going to the King Hills in the afternoon to redeem a vow to a god.
Patrick listened to her on the side, while Lena complained that her old brother was too troublesome. She had to be call him three or four times for dinner.
Thud, a crisp footsteps from far to near, Bella turned around, seeing Kevin with a cold face walk towards the dining table. He obviously finished showering, emitting a faint mint fragrance.
“Let’s eat.”
Blanche patted the back of Bella’s hand and instructed the maid beside her, “Bring the boiled soup to the young lady.”
The maid nimbly brought a bowl of soup to her, and Bella was flattered to thank Blanche.
“Drink it while it’s hot. It’s been a hard day at work.”
Kevin on the side snorted, “What’s so hard. She’s just talking.”
Patrick raised his eyebrows, “You’re not her. How could you know about her suffering? Do you think it’s easy to be a teacher?”
“That’s right. Bella is teaching a bunch of kids who are at the rebellious stage. How hard her work is!”
Kevin peered sharply into her face, and Lena shut up knowingly.
“Ignore him. He’s just envious of the treatment you have that he doesn’t have.” Blanche glared at her son.
“Mother, we’re going back to my mother’s house together this weekend.”
Bella looked directly at Blanche and said solemnly.
“Are you… together?”
She asked uncertainly, looking surprised in her eyes.
“Yes.”
“Oh my God, is this true? Brother, will you really accompany Bella to her mother’s house?”
Lena was so excited that she actually forgot about his warning glance just now.
Kevin didn’t say anything, but his families who were familiar with him knew that his silence meant acquiescence. So the family was so happy, even though Kevin looked very bad.
Actually, he looked very unpleasant, and minded losing to Bella.
After dinner was over, Patrick asked Kevin into the study room, and as soon as Kevin left, Lena grabbed her mother’s arm and said, “Mom, Bella is so great…”
“What’s wrong?” Blanche was puzzled.
“I was telling her bad things about Kevin this afternoon, and he caught me in the act. You know his temper, right? I was so frightened that I ran away immediately, thinking that Bella would end up in a terrible situation…”
“But it turned out that Bella was unharmed and convinced Kevin to accompany her back to her mother’s house, right?”
“Yeah, yeah.”
Lena felt incredible, like a dream which was too unreal.
“That’s why I can’t wait to redeem a vow to a god today. I also have a feeling that this time your brother’s marriage will definitely not be as ephemeral as it was in the past.”
Blanche smiled happily, as she instructed Lena, “Go call Bella down.”
Bella went upstairs after dinner. She had to study her homework in the evening, so she didn’t have much time to chat with her family.
She came down from upstairs and met Kevin who came out from the study.
He looked terrible.
“Mom, what’s the matter?”
She walked straight to Blanche and asked respectfully.
“Quickly sit down.”
Blanche instructed her to sit down, then took a crystal clear jade bracelet from her right wrist and handed it to her, “This is an heirloom of our family and was given to me by my mother-in-law. Now I’m giving it to you.”
As she finished, everyone was startled on the spot.
Kevin was the most shocked, and he unhappily questioned his mother, “How can you just give something that grandmother gave you to someone else?”
“Bella is no one else. She’s my daughter-in-law, and your wife.”
“There’s more than one of my wives, so can you give it to each one?”
“Although she’s not the first, but I’m confident that she will be your last wife.”
Kevin was going crazy. This woman’s confidence was infecting his family. Since he couldn’t change his mother’s mind, he had to switch targets. He glared at Bella warning that let’s see how miserable you would be if you accepted it.
