Amanda didn’t react to the news that Jane wasn’t coming this afternoon, but Bette was very angry. She refuted Jane’s agent on the spot.
“Who do you think Jane is? A bunch of us have been waiting in the sun for so long and you say she’s not coming?”
The agent knew he had to apologize when he saw the unkind looks around him.
Back at the office, he went straight to George’s office.
“Herman, what are you doing here, isn’t Jane filming?”
“George, I know you and Jane have a great relationship, but you can’t be so oblivious to professional ethics, so many people on the set are watching, and if Jane says no, then she won’t go, I won’t be able to do public relations at that time!”
“George, I don’t want to do this job anymore, can someone take over?” Herman was ready to quit.
George was a little baffled, “Wait, why wasn’t Jane on the set?”
After Herman explained the situation, George called Jane again, always unanswered.
Here, Amanda figured it was still early, so she took a detour with Bette to the orphanage.
“Miss those little kids?”
“Yeah, they are also pathetic, too.”
Amanda lived by the orphanage when she was a kid. After her debut, she often went back to visit the children and donated a lot of money to the orphanage over the years.
“You like them so much, I don’t want to say but Sampson is not a good guy!”
Bette was talking about the director of the orphanage, who had taken over after the old director retired and had come to Amanda several times under the guise of the orphanage, always asking for money.
“It’s okay, as long as he uses the money on those kids.” Amanda smiled unconcernedly.
As soon as Amanda got out of the car, a group of chattering kids came around.
After talking to the kids, Amanda went to the dean’s office.
Sampson enthusiastically made a cup of tea for her. Amanda gently blew the tea powder, her face was calm as if she was very interested in this cup of tea.
Finally, it was Sampson who couldn’t stand it any longer and spoke up, “Amanda, the orphanage is going to be renovated recently to give the child a better living environment, do you think…”
“Oh? How much does it cost?”
Sampson’s eyes lit up and he rubbed his hands in excitement and said, “No more, no less, just a million or so.”
Bette stood by the door, almost laughing at his shamelessness, a million or so? That’s what she earned in a year, okay?
Amanda didn’t say anything, placed her cup on the table, and just sat there watching Sampson.
Just as Sampson was getting a little restless, Amanda spoke up.
“Sampson, I don’t know if you had a good time at the casino last week.”
Sampson’s in shock, damn it! How did she know he had been to the casino? “Amanda, a place like a casino is just a place to relax once in a while.”
“Is it? So your huge gambling debt is also relaxing?”
Now Sampson couldn’t say anything and sat there with his head down, unable to stop the cold sweat that broke out from behind.
Amanda saw that and had no intention to speak to him more. She picked up her things and went out to the door.
“Sampson, I’ll have the money credited to your card, but you can’t take me as a fool, and give every penny to use for the kids!”
It wasn’t until Amanda got on the car that Sampson looked up, his eyes glowed with an obscure light.
