Summer logged off Weibo and decided to check her bank account to see if there was still any money in it.
It turned out that she still had money in the hundreds of thousands in her current account.
That may have been small change for Jessica and Leonardo, but it was a significant amount of money for her. It was enough for her and Rosie to live on before she could churn out another script.
Right then, Jessica pushed the door open and came in. “What are you doing?”
“I’m just sorting some stuff out.” Summer showed Jessica her new personal identification documents.
“Who gave you these?” Jessica was in her bedroom when Tim sent the things over, so she was not aware of what happened.
“I asked Tim to help me get them.” Summer put her bank card back into her wallet. “I remembered I had money in my bank account. It’s just that I didn’t know how much. I just checked, and it’s enough for me and Rosie to live on for quite some time.”
Jessica naturally knew what Summer meant, judging from what she said.
“You’re always welcome to stay here. That’s what friends are for.” Jessica’s brows were slightly knitted together.
“I know, and I appreciated that. But I have to raise Rosie and live my own life. I’m not at the end of my rope yet. In fact, things are looking up.”
Jessica had just woken up, so her hair was a mess. Summer reached out to help her sort out her hair. “Don’t just call the food delivery service whenever you’re idle at home. You should ask Carl over to cook for you.”
“What are you talking about? Carl can’t cook.”
“You’re not objecting, are you? Are you two…” Summer raised her chin, letting her sentence hang.
“I don’t know.” Jessica shook her head, her smile fading. “Even if Carl and I don’t get together, we’ll still be friends and family. Don’t worry about me.”
She hit her shoulder against Summer’s as she spoke.
Seeing that Summer was still staring at her, she smiled. “At least, I’m richer than you are. I have a house, a car, lots of handbags, and designer clothes. I can buy whatever I want. You better worry about yourself.”
Summer nodded matter-of-factly. “You have a point.”
Jessica was a woman with her own mind.
Summer and Jessica managed to remain friends for years because they had something in common. They both thought love was not the only thing in life.
A person should have a broader perspective to give life more meaning.
Yet, at the same time, they would also do anything for the sake of love.
“If you want to move out, I can ask my manager to help you find a place. She’s an expert at it. Having to look after Rosie, it won’t be easy for you to go out looking for houses.”
“Okay.”
…
When Summer checked her Weibo again at noon, she found that the post she uploaded in the morning had over ten thousand re-posts and likes. There were even comments numbering in the tens of thousands.
Among those people who re-posted were celebrities, movie directors, and also internet celebrities.
Jessica leaned over with a rueful expression. “You’re back on Weibo now? Why didn’t you tell me so that I could be the first to comment?”
“I was just trying to post a status update.”
Jessica took out her mobile phone, re-posting Summer’s Weibo post.
“V Jessica Hicks: It feels like a lifetime ago, but now you’re finally back. Now, the question is, are you working on The Lost City: Season 2? [love]//@Summer: thank you for the love for The Lost City.”
Meanwhile, Summer was browsing Weibo. She noticed that Jessica had re-posted her Weibo post, so she clicked Jessica’s avatar and followed her. Only then did she realize that they were following each other.
Apparently, Jessica had been following her for a long time.
When Summer first created her Weibo account, she did not follow Jessica. She had also asked Jessica not to follow her.
It was because, at that time, she had a notorious reputation while Jessica was doing good with new movies and roles to play. While Jessica was not very popular, she had at least garnered considerable attention.
She was afraid that her problem would drag Jessica’s good name through the mud.
“When did you start following me?” Summer asked.
“Since The Lost City started streaming, of course. The number of your followers exploded, and The Lost City became the trendiest topic in town. There were some press releases from the producer, but more buzz came from online discussions.”
Speaking of the situation back then, Jessica appeared more excited than Summer.
Summer had checked online; after production wrapped on The Lost City, the series went online the following year, which was one year after she and Leonardo encountered the explosion on the small island.
It had been two years since then.
“Many producers and directors have been interested in working with you for the past two years, which means there is no shortage of buyers of your work. You might be able to get a good price for your scripts, so pick who you want to work with carefully…”
Jessica had been working in the industry much longer than Summer, hence she automatically wanted to offer her advice.
However, Summer was just thinking of Eliza.
If Eliza came looking for her again, she would probably work with her once more.
Back then, Eliza knew she was desperate, and now, she was still willing to work with Eliza again.
Not to mention, she had faith in Eliza’s capabilities.
If she ever worked on Season 2 of The Lost City, she would still pick Eliza as her business partner.
…
Summer uploaded a post on Weibo, and it made the entertainment news.
Several days after that, she received a lot of telephone calls. Most of them were calls expressing interest in working with her, but Summer tactfully rejected all of them.
Besides waiting for Eliza, she was busy moving house.
One of Jessica’s relatives had migrated abroad, leaving behind a house that they did not sell for nostalgic reasons. Not wanting to leave the house unattended for long, they asked Jessica to rent it out on their behalf.
At first, Jessica appointed an agent to handle the matter, but the agent could not rent it out even after much time had passed.
So, Jessica decided to rent it to Summer.
Jessica and the agent brought Summer to view the house, which was in a beautiful, strategic neighborhood.
The most important thing was that the location was in between Leonardo’s house and Emerson Group. That meant it was extremely convenient for her. Plus, the house was fully furnished with superb interior design.
Jessica drew the curtains open. “What do you say? Do you like it?”
“It’s pretty good.” Summer was happy with it.
“You can move in right away. As for the rent, it’s up to you. They don’t really go after the money. They just want someone to look after their house.”
Despite what Jessica said, Summer still paid the rent at the market rate.
Since the house was fully furnished and ready for her to move in, Summer moved in two days later.
Kids were always curious when they arrived in a new environment. The moment Rosie stepped into the house, she started to look around like a curious bunny.
