The little dumpling jumped into his arms, and Leonardo instinctively reached out to curl his hands around Rosie’s neck as did Rosie around his. Her eyes twinkled like the stars in the night sky.
She pointed in the kitchen’s direction. “Daddy, dinner.”
Summer had no idea why Leonardo suddenly came to Jessica’s house looking for her, but she knew he was up to something.
Since Rosie was so excited, Summer was not going to ask him what he was up to.
Before he could say anything, Jessica had heard the commotion and went up to them. “Big Boss, it’s been a long time.”
The last time she saw Leonardo was in the Golden Cauldron.
Many things had happened since then. She could not help but feel curious when he showed up in her house.
“Don’t just stand there. Please come in.” Jessica stood beside Summer and gave her a push.
Summer looked up slightly at Leonardo. “Please come in.”
“Young Master, there you go,” Tim whispered into Leonardo’s ear.
Leonardo knitted his brows together as if he was thinking of something. At last, he went inside.
Rosie glided down from his arms, then held his hand and brought him to the dining table. She even pulled out a chair for him.
“Daddy, please take a seat. Dinner.”
However, the chair was too big and heavy for Rosie, even though she used up all her strength. She only managed to move the chair by a few inches.
Leonardo looked down at Rosie, whose face had turned red due to the overexertion. She pressed her lips together tightly, looking determined.
Tim had told him that his daughter was very adorable, but to him, “adorable” was a very subjective attribute.
Nevertheless, right then, he subjectively thought the little chubby girl was definitely adorable.
He moved his fingers, thinking of giving Rosie a hand. But seeing her insistence, he ended up doing nothing.
Summer had been observing him since he came in, taking in all of his reactions.
Where did this man get his nasty habits? Summer asked herself.
She went over and lifted Rosie up in her arms. “Rosie, that’s all right. Daddy can sit down now.”
Rosie looked up with a confused expression on her face. She tucked her bangs and smacked the chair, then held Leonardo’s hand to signal him to sit down.
So, Leonardo sat down.
Jessica was afraid of Leonardo. After he took a seat, she sat down in a chair at the farthest corner of the dining table.
Not that the dining table was large. After Tim and Jessica took their seats, the only seat left was right next to Leonardo.
Summer sat down next to Leonardo while Rosie sat between them.
Kids may not have a precise concept of time, but not seeing Leonardo for two days seemed like a long time for Rosie.
Kids usually displayed their happiness on their faces and in their actions.
Summer served some dishes to Rosie, who then used her rice-covered chopsticks to pick them up from her bowl and serve them to Leonardo. “Daddy, eat this.” She smiled the entire time.
Leonardo had minor mysophobia.
It was not obvious when he and Summer were together, but it was not hard to spot.
Leonardo looked at the meat covered in rice, then at Rosie, who was looking at him expectantly. He furrowed his brows.
Things were not looking up. However, before Summer could say anything, Leonardo scrubbed the rice from the meat and put it in his mouth.
The only odd thing was his unnatural expression when he ate it.
Summer tried hard not to laugh. When she thought of how willing Leonardo was in playing up to Rosie, she found that it was at least a good start. If she were to laugh at him, Leonardo would surely get angry.
Seeing that Leonardo had eaten the meat, Rosie was delighted, and she began to dig in.
There were only four dishes including soup. Luckily, Summer had cooked some extra rice, which she had thought of making fried rice with the next morning.
Leonardo had only tried the noodles that Summer previously cooked. Now, having tasted her other dishes, he liked them very much.
They polished off all the food, leaving only one plate on the table.
After dinner, Jessica and Tim offered to do the dishes.
The family of three was now left in the dining room.
Leonardo sat stock in his chair with an impassive face like a king sitting on his throne.
After Summer wiped the food stains around Rosie’s mouth, Rosie jumped down from her chair and went off to play.
At that point, only Summer and Leonardo were left at the dining table.
Summer spoke first. “Why did you come here so suddenly?”
“I’m here to take Rosie.” His voice was low and emotionless.
“Take Rosie?” She looked over at him. “Why are you taking her? To show her your temper? Smash things up to scare her?” she scorned.
“Summer!” he snapped. He sounded colder than before with a hint of anger in his voice.
Summer’s lips moved, but she said nothing.
She knew that Leonardo was not done. She was waiting for him to continue speaking.
“Are you still trying to restore our marriage with that attitude of yours?”
Summer was struck dumb. She just could not get Leonardo’s train of thought.
Thinking back, though, Leonardo’s memories were stuck in his twenties, which meant he still had not grown feelings for her.
Tim may have told Leonardo about what happened during the past few years.
She and Leonardo were now divorced, and she was quite proactive on her own. It was only natural for Leonardo to have such thoughts.
Looking at things from another perspective, however, what Leonardo said was not exactly wrong.
She wanted to marry Leonardo again.
She wanted to help him restore his memories and be with him again.
They had been through so much. All she wanted was to be with him.
With that goal in mind, she felt better. “Yeah, I want to marry you again. That’s what I’ve been thinking of even in my dreams.”
She suddenly recovered her memories the day before. Facing so many challenges, she could not help but find life a little unfair.
Looking at the man she loved, who used to be the closest person to her, seeing her as a stranger, she just could not help but feel sad.
Yet, one could not use fairness to judge a relationship. Sometimes, being together was good enough.
“Dream on!” Leonardo sneered.
Her expression subtly changed, but she quickly regained her composure as her lips curled into a smile. “What is the purpose of living if a person lives without dreams.”
Leonardo stared at her for two seconds, then got to his feet. “Tim, we’re leaving now.”
Tim, who was listening in on their conversation with Jessica from the kitchen doorway, came out at once.
He sorted his clothes and said, “Mrs. Emerson, thank you for dinner. I have to go.”
