Since Jessica had to rush for an important appointment, she sent Carl in her stead.
Carl then brought the two into Jessica’s house.
“There’s fruit yogurt, vegetables, and meat in the fridge. Snacks are over there.”
Carl acted like he was on his home turf while he showed Summer the refrigerator and cabinets. He even opened the room door to tell her where the bathroom was and which bedroom to sleep in.
“If you need anything, you can give me a call. Jessica usually comes back late.”
As Carl said that, he turned around to see Summer with a deep smile on her face.
Carl scratched his head, feeling somewhat embarrassed. “In any case, just let me know if you need anything.”
Summer composed herself and said, “Thank you.”
“You’re welcome. You are Jessica’s friend and Leonardo’s wife. This is my duty.”
Summer could not remember who had mentioned it before, but Carl’s family had dealings with the darker side of society, and when Carl got older, his father had come clean and returned to the right side of society.
Perhaps due to his upbringing, Carl was a very righteous person.
Summer did not dither and responded with a “Yeah.”
“You don’t have to fret too much about Leonardo. There will always be a way.” While Carl was comforting her, he frowned slightly and was clearly somewhat worried as well.
After Carl left, Summer took out some vegetables and meat from the refrigerator and cooked pork noodles with green veggies.
Rosie was famished and ate rather quickly.
Summer was watching Rosie eating, and keeping an eye on her from eating too fast, as she thought about Leonardo.
Tim had told her earlier that Leonardo was taken by Kate to be hypnotized and have his memories blocked, thus giving the illusion of having amnesia.
While Summer had heard of hypnosis, upon seeing Leonardo’s condition, Summer realized that it was beyond her spectrum of knowledge.
Summer then searched on the internet for the definition of hypnosis.
If hypnosis was a deep-seated psychological suggestion, would that not mean that it was similar to psychology?
Was Stanley not a professor in psychology?
He must have some understanding of what hypnosis was all about.
As she thought of that, Summer took out her phone and gave Stanley a call.
When the call connected, she heard Stanley whispering on the other end, “Sorry, I have to answer a call.”
He must have been muffling his phone, and his voice sounded very soft.
Another person’s voice then rang out. “No problem.”
Following that was the sound of the chair sliding, and the next moment, Stanley’s voice reverberated clearly through the phone. “Summer.”
“Do you have a patient? Sorry to bother you,” Summer said apologetically.
There was a teasing tone in Stanley’s voice. “No worries, the patient didn’t mind me answering an important call first.”
His seemingly intimate words did not sound flippant or ambiguous.
Summer then asked him directly, “Are you well-versed on the matter of hypnosis?”
“Hypnosis? A little, what’s wrong?” Stanley was very perceptive, and he understood that she would not ask about it for no reason. Concern manifested in his tone.
“I just want to ask you, can hypnosis…”
“Mommy, I’m full.”
Summer looked up and saw Rosie showing her empty bowl to her.
Stanley had also heard Rosie’s voice and said considerately, “I’ll be free later. If it’s convenient, you can see me.”
Summer also felt that she would not be able to explain this clearly in a couple of words, so she responded, “Okay.”
Rosie had the habit of taking an afternoon nap.
When Summer was done washing the dishes, she saw Rosie lying asleep on the sofa.
Summer carried her back to the room and heard the sound of the door opening outside.
Perhaps Jessica had come home?
Sure enough, after the door was opened, Jessica entered the house.
“Jessica,” Summer called her and said, “Carl told me that you would be back late.”
“I’m done with the filming of my part, so I rushed back,” Jessica said while she changed shoes.
She put on her slippers and walked over. “What happened?”
At that time, Summer only mentioned that she had wanted to come and live with her for a few days, and Jessica did not probe further.
