Chapter 348 Those People Increased the Price Halfway

Book:CEO's Substitute Wife Published:2024-5-1

Summer and Leonardo turned their heads to look at Carl.
Sitting down on the other side of the bed, Carl recounted. “It was chaotic at the time. Tim followed Leonardo to send you to the hospital while I brought men pursuing Adams. But he got away at last.”
Summer’s expression changed. She propped herself to sit up as Leonardo held her up. After the anesthetic effect faded, the pain in her wound would be very apparent.
Despite Leonardo having taken extra care when he held her up, Summer still inadvertently moved her wound. The pain must be unbearable judging from the sweat popping out of her forehead. But that did not translate on her face.
She must not show the pain on her face. Otherwise, Leonardo would feel worse than she did. Yet how thoughtful Leonardo was in front of Summer. He looked down with an ice-cold face as he wiped the sweat from Summer’s forehead with a towel.
As she sat up in bed, she said, “We must find Adams. Michael no longer has our child. Adams has taken her. He has completely lost his mind now. We can’t judge him based on what a normal person would think. All he wants now is to have everyone going to hell along with him…”
Summer could no longer continue, her eyes welling up. If the child was still in Michael’s hands, and if Michael still wanted to control Leonardo, he would not harm the child. But Adams was different. He wanted nothing but everything suffering with him. He would do anything to the child depending on his mood.
She felt a lump in her throat. It felt so bad that she could not breathe. The air in the room turned still as no one uttered a word.
Leonardo turned around to pour Summer a glass of water, then carefully put the glass to her lips so she could take a sip. After she drank some, he took a towel and wiped her lips.
“I have a way to find Adams. Leave it to me. You take care of yourself. I will bring our child back before you know it.”
Summer looked at Leonardo in surprise.
He held her hand and said, “Trust me.”

Summer had recovered fast, and after four days, she was discharged. Leaving the hospital, she found that the car was heading toward the old residence of the Emersons.
For the past few days, she did not ask Leonardo about how his mom’s case was going. She did not know how to ask, and neither did he mention it.
Right now, he was bringing her back to the old residence, probably to start digging into the case.
As they arrived and Summer got out of the car, Tim and a group of bodyguards were already waiting in front of the residence and greeting them as they came in.
The stitches had not been taken out yet, so Summer walked slowly. As she was approaching the bedroom, she finally could not hold back asking the question. “Have you found Adams yet?”
Leonardo bent down to kiss her on the forehead and spoke with rare gentleness. “Take a rest. I will go do stuff and come back to you tonight.”
“Okay.” Summer nodded her head.
He helped her to lie down before leaving, then taking out his mobile phone and texted Adams.
“Do you want to know where Rachel is?”
A sinister look flashed across his face as his mobile phone showed the text message was successfully sent. Just then, Tim came up to him, and Leonardo asked, “Where are they?”
Tim knew he was referring to Michael and Violet. “They have just been taken down to the basement.”
Leonardo sneered, then headed to the basement. Unlike the typical dark and humid basements, the one in the old residence of the Emersons was built tastefully as storage for old stuff.
Tim went up and opened the door of the basement. As Leonardo stepped in, the bodyguards greeted him.
Guarded by the bodyguards and sitting in the middle was Michael and Violet. They had been confined here for the past few days when Summer was hospitalized with Leonardo staying by her side.
Michael had been leading a smooth sailing life for all his life, and until now, he still did not think he had done anything wrong. After being held for so long, his dissatisfaction had grown to become anger.
“Leonardo, I’m still your father no matter what! How could you do this to me?”
Leonardo seemed not to hear him. He waved his hand to his men. “Leave me.”
Despite feeling worried, Tim had no choice but to bring the bodyguards out of the basement.
Michael had lost his patience, his gentleness and dignity evaporating. “I’m talking to you. Do you hear me?”
“Let’s talk about what happened back then.” Leonardo sat down across from them, his voice devoid of emotions as if he was just having a casual chat with them. This made him look even scarier.
Michael knew that this was the calm before the storm. He was scared, his voice trembling. “What happened back then is not entirely my fault… I just asked them to tie up Daisy and bring her away. I didn’t know those people would be so wicked to do such a thing…”
Every word that came out of Michael’s mouth was to justify himself. Leonardo still sat in the same posture, unblinking and silent like a statue.
“It’s true, Leonardo, you have to trust me. Why would I be so heartless? Daisy and I had been together for decades, I wouldn’t—”
When he saw that Leonardo gave no response, he comforted himself that probably his words had started to sink in. So he continued to defend himself.
But Leonardo snickered. “I thought you had a clear conscience all this while. Why try to defend yourself all of a sudden?”
“Leonardo…”
Leonardo did not bother to look at him as he had shifted his attention to Violet. “It’s your turn.”
Tears had been flowing from Violet’s eyes since Leonardo came in.
“I knew this day would come…” She buried her face in her hands and sobbed.
Leonardo looked at her. “Could you please calm yourself down and talk?”
Violet stopped crying, wiping her tears away, and continued. “At the time, we just want to send Daisy away. Our plan was to abduct her alone, but you were clinging on her and would not let go no matter who hard they hit you. So they took you together… After that, those people increased the price halfway…”
Leonardo suddenly got to his feet and roared. “Shut up!”
Violet had her heart in her mouth and kept quiet.
Leonardo walked up to Michael and punched him to the ground, then grabbed him by his collar…
