Summer paused for a moment and listened to how Stanley would answer.
But after a while, Stanley did not respond.
Summer turned her head and saw Stanley looking at Vicky with a serious look, and had no idea what he was looking at.
Seeing Stanley staring at her, Vicky thought that Stanley had taken a liking to her beauty, and could not help but to raise her chin before looking back proudly at Summer.
Vicky’s gaze was both proud and provocative.
Summer twitched her lips and turned to leave.
Then she heard Vicky’s voice rang out again. “Seen enough have you? While I’m much more beautiful than Summer, but I already have a boyfriend, I’ll allow you to be attracted to me, but don’t expect me to respond to you.”
Summer almost choked on her own saliva.
After being together with Adams, Vicky got more and more confident.
And what followed was Stanley’s voice. “I’m sorry, Miss, you’re mistaken. I just wanted to remind you that your eyes look like you’re lacking energy, and your body is seriously worse for wear, even thickest of makeup could not hide it. I’m not discriminating against you being an escort, but I do feel that health should come first…”
Vicky burst out in a tirade. “What did you say! You’re crazy! What escort! I’m a star! Sure enough, what sort of man that Summer could actually find? Nothing but garbage! Hmph!!” Summer did not expect Stanley to say that to Vicky.
When she turned around, she saw Stanley, who had just gone through a verbal tirade by Vicky just standing there calmly.
Perhaps probably noticing her gaze, Stanley blinked at Summer.
Summer twitched her lips awkwardly.
Vicky noticed Stanley’s minute movements and turned to look at Summer. “Happy now? Just wait and see!”
After saying that Vicky left angrily with her gaggle of girls.
Stanley walked towards her with a face full of regret. “So she’s a star. If I knew that I’d record that down, I might be able to sell it for a good price.”
Summer immediately shattered his fantasy. “You think too much. Recordings of Vicky cursing someone had long been worthless.”
Vicky’s reputation in the entertainment industry was nothing but rotten, so cursing someone was not something uncommon, and was no longer a scoop.
Stanley seemed to have mentioned it casually and did not delve into it, and instead asked her. “She’s Jarrett as well? Are you relatives?”
“She’s…” Summer had just opened her mouth, before realizing that she was about to subconsciously answer his question.
She quickly swallowed whatever words that came to her mouth back and grabbed him to a corner. “Tell me, how did you know me? Why did you know I had a child?”
Stanley placed his hands on his waist and said with a roguish look. “I won’t tell you unless you remember yourself.”
Summer waved him off, before hailing a cab and left.
She felt that Stanley was all sort of weird.
However, for him to be hired by the criminal investigation team means that his identity must have been clean, but because of how weird his appearance was, Summer found it difficult to trust him.
…
Summer returned to her residence and began to pack her items.
After entering her bedroom, she discovered that aside from using the bathroom, Stanley had not touched any of her items. At least he had some self-awareness.
But she would not live there any longer.
Stanley was just too weird, and she was afraid that he might sneak into her home again in one of his mood swings.
Summer packed up her items and contacted the landlord before leaving.
After staying outside for two days, she finally found a new place.
It was still a single bedroom-single hall unit, but in a better area and with a higher rent, she even especially changed the lock as well.
The next morning, as she opened the door getting ready to go out to do some shopping, she saw her neighbor on the opposite site opening the door and came out as well.
Their eyes met, and the air froze for three good seconds.
Stanley. “What a coincidence? Good morning.”
Summer said, “Why are you still following me?”
The two spoke almost at the same time.
“How can you say that I’m following you? This room was lent to me by my friend, it’s more like you’re following me!” Stanley was probably heading to work at the criminal investigation team, and wore a proper navy blue suit, and looked very decent.
Summer took a deep breath and went downstairs.
No one knew what Stanley was thinking, nor did he speak to her again.
The two took the elevator without any incident and went their own ways after exiting the lobby.
Summer had just moved in yesterday and could not cook in the house yet, so she found a bun shop for breakfast.
The business of the bun shop was good, with many people queuing up for it. As she waited for hers, Summer took out her phone and went online.
After being on trending so many times now, with half of her feet stepped into the entertainment industry, Summer had developed the habit of taking notice of gossips from during her free time.
And in the end, she was trending again today.
While she was not number one on the trending list, she made it into the top ten.
And the headline of the trending news was, “Young Master Emerson’s ex-wife has a new boyfriend again.”
Summer had a bad hunch.
She clicked in and saw the post at the top was sent by an entertainment blogger.
“Some netizens have taken photos of Young Master Emerson’s ex-wife and her new boyfriend coming out of an unknown hotel two mornings ago. Ms. Jarrett could be said to be promiscuous…”
The picture at the bottom was taken a few mornings back when she pulled Stanley to a corner to question him.
She had grabbed onto Stanley as they walked out of the hotel door, and the photo taken became a photo of them holding hands.
When she was talking to Stanley, he had his back against the camera, almost completely blocking Summer. The angle of this photo looked very ambiguous, as though the two were doing something that was beyond description.
But each and every photo did not capture much of their faces.
Summer slammed her phone on the table with a loud bang.
Then, she quickly recovered and picked it up to give Leonardo a call, and in the end, it showed that Leonardo was on another call.
…
Emerson Corporation, the President’s Office.
Leonardo was just done with his meeting, and recalled that he had not called Summer for the past two-three days now; and just as he was about to give her a call, Carl’s call came in.
So he had to answer the call first.
Leonardo’s tone was not that friendly as soon as he opened his mouth. “Be quick if you have anything.”
He was in a hurry to give Summer a call.
Carl shook his head and sighed on the phone. “Sure, sure, sure. I’ll be quick with it. Let’s go out today or tomorrow for a meal.”
As he said that, he could not help but complain. “Bloody hell, you still had time to go out to have fun with Summer in a hotel, and here just a couple of words is taking up too much of your time? Talk about giving up your humanity for a broad!”
Leonardo’s voice rumbled as he said coldly, “Since when did I go to a hotel to have fun with Summer?”
