Summer went to the supermarket and bought a bunch of ingredients before driving over to Leonardo’s apartment.
The result of Adams and Michael’s paternity test would be out today, and while Summer could have confirmed the father-son relationship from Leonardo, she still was a little nervous.
She recalled what Jerome had said, the Emerson family’s waters run deep.
This was the real thing.
When she arrived at Leonardo’s apartment, the person collecting the paternity test results had not yet come.
Leonardo sat on the sofa, with a cigarette between his fingers, yet it was unlit.
Leonardo rarely smoked, at the very least he had no smoking addictions.
Hearing the footsteps, Leonardo placed the cigarette on the coffee table before him and looked at the direction of Summer. “Traffic jam on the way?”
When his eyes saw the large number of items in her hand, he was stunned for a moment before getting up and walked towards her as he took them off her.
“What did you buy these for?” Leonardo frowned, his tone was rough and his expression unhappy.
Summer knew why Leonardo was unhappy and gently said, “When your dad came yesterday, the excuse I told him was to come over and cook for you to gain your favor, so I have to play the part.”
Leonardo did not speak, and only put the items Summer bought into the refrigerator one by one with a cold face.
Summer stood by the kitchen door and looked at him bending down as he placed the items into the fridge, and could not help but to make fun of him. “Your expression is as cold as that fridge.”
Leonardo turned around and looked at her before softly saying, “I can be as cold as an iceberg, wanna feel that?”
“No, please.” Summer shook her head quickly.
Leonardo closed the refrigerator door and walked towards her with a half-smile.
Summer subconsciously took a step back.
Leonardo’s expression turned even darker, as he grabbed Summer’s hand. “What are you hiding for?”
Summer told the truth. “I’m afraid that you’ll beat me.”
“Heh,” Leonardo sneered. “If I were to beat you every time you piss me off, you’d be dead ten thousand times over.”
“I piss you off that much?” Summer was shocked by the ‘ten thousand times’ from his mouth.
The two rarely had such a harmonious argument, and Summer rather enjoyed this feeling.
Leonardo acted menacing on purpose. “What do you think?”
Summer pursed her lips as she laughed, and just as she was about to speak, the doorbell outside rang.
The two looked at each other, knowing that it was the person who had collected the paternity test results.
Summer patted his hand. “I’ll open the door.”
Leonardo let her go and walked to the sofa to sit down.
Summer opened the door and saw the person outside was Tim.
Tim was not surprised when he saw Summer and habitually greeted her, “Young Mistress.”
“Come in.” Summer stood aside, and after Tim entered, she closed the door.
Tim held onto a paper file and quickly walked to Leonardo. “Young Master, the result of the test.”
Leonardo opened the paper file, and took out the paternity test report, reading it page by page, and finally stopped at the words ‘has parent-child relationship’.
He stared at it for a good few seconds before handing it over to Summer.
When he was reading the report, Summer was seated next to him.
Summer took the report, and could not hide her shock. “I never thought that Adams’s your father’s illegitimate child.”
The entire room fell into an awkward silence for a moment.
Summer put down the paternity test report and looked at Leonardo. “If Adams is your father’s illegitimate son, then who is Adams’s biological mother?”
Leonardo did not answer her question but said, “Aunt got married very young, and she gave birth to Adams. Her husband, Nathan Wilson was an artist and grew up together with her. After they married, they had been living overseas.”
Summer pondered for a bit and asked, “Childhood friends? Then their relationship must’ve been particularly good?”
“Yes, when I lived at their house, it was clear that uncle loved my aunt very much.” Leonardo frowned as he said that.
“Then why during the last Chinese New Year when your aunt’s entire family came aside from your uncle?” Summer had been meaning to ask this question since the last Chinese New Year eve.
As she said that, she remembered what Douglas said, “Douglas told me that he felt that his parent’s relationship was not that good. A child may not understand the love between adults, but whether his parents love each other or not, he should be able to feel that. Plus, he is at the age where he is particularly sensitive to things like this, so I believe he would not be lying.”
If Violet and Nathan grew up together and had their first child when they were 18, that meant they must have been very affectionate, but this was all too weird.
“If Adams is your father’s child, then where is your aunt’s child then?” Summer fell into deep thought as she said that.
Suddenly, Leonardo said, “During my childhood, I remembered my parents being very loving.”
“Adams is two years older than you. If your father had made a mistake when he was young and accidentally had Adams, he still did not need to hand Adams over to your aunt to raise him. If your grandfather was to know of this, he would not have allowed your aunt to raise him. That is to say, your grandfather didn’t know that your father had an illegitimate child?”
Leonardo recalled what his grandfather told him on the Chinese New Year eve, and said with a rumbling voice. “Not necessarily.”
Summer was stumped.
At that moment, Leonardo suddenly said, “Tim, help me book a flight tonight. I want to go to M Country for a bit.”
Violet was living in M Country.
Hearing that, Summer looked up at him. “Are you going to look for your aunt?”
“Yeah.” Leonardo’s expression had a rare seriousness to it. “The breakthrough of this matter can only be through my aunt.”
He would never be able to glean anything off Michael.
While it could not be ascertained at present, the matter of Adams being Michael’s illegitimate child, and what it had to do with the kidnapping back then alongside Rosie’s abduction, this was the only lead they could investigate for now.
Anything related to Michael had to be investigated.
Summer demurred for a moment before saying, “I want to go with you.”
But Leonardo clearly had no plans to take her to M Country. “Wait for my return. Call Tim or Tim if there’s anything.”
Summer wanted to say something more, but Leonardo looked at his watch and interrupted her. “It’s eleven o’clock now. I’ll need to leave for the airport soon. You sure you don’t want to make lunch for me?”
Summer pursed her lips. “I’ll go do it now.”
Since Leonardo decided not to take her along, she would just stay back.
Leonardo watched as Summer entered the kitchen before turning over to Tim. “Send someone to watch over the Emerson tightly while I’m not around.”
Tim responded respectfully, “Yes, Sir.”
